Camp Rainbow Gold Finding New Home In Camas County Election Results (contested races)
Press Release Camp Rainbow Gold announced on Monday of this week an agreement to purchase Soldier Mountain Ranch and Resort, conditional to the findings of a 90-day due diligence of the property. The $1.3 million purchase includes approximately 150 acres and 26 buildings, including 21 cabins. “Camp Rainbow Gold is optimistically exploring this property and considering every detail to ensure it’s the right fit for us,” said Elizabeth Lizberg, executive director. “This opportunity changes our need to build a camp from the ground up, which would be an immense cost-savings and will allow us to run a smaller capital campaign.” The resort, which is nestled at the base of the 10,000-foot peaks of the Soldier Mountains, is 101 miles from Boise; 89 miles from Twin Falls; and 49 miles from Hailey, making the location well-suited to serve the three valleys that Camp Rainbow Gold says much of their base is from. “We are excited to have found a potential solution that allows us to remain in an area where we have a long-established history with families, supporters and volunteers,” Lizberg said. Camp Rainbow Gold is a community supported organization and is thriving because of ongoing support from Idaho residents. Idaho’s First Flu-Related Death This Season
Idaho’s first influenza-related death of the 2018-2019 influenza season occurred this week in a northern Idaho woman over the age of 50. “The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is reminding residents that flu can be serious” said Randi Pedersen, the Idaho Influenza Surveillance Coordinator. “The most important action to take to prevent serious illness is to get a flu vaccine now.” Last year’s flu season was particularly deadly, resulting in a record 101 influenza-related deaths in Idaho. That number was quadruple the average of 25 deaths each season over the last decade. Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness that infects anywhere from 5 to 20 percent of the population every year. Symptoms can include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headache, chills, or fatigue. Most people who get influenza recover after a few days, but some people may develop serious complications. Everyone over six months of age is... continued on page 2...

Gooding Gobbler Fun Run ~ Thanksgiving Morning
This year’s Gooding Gobbler walk/run 5K will be held Thanksgiving morning. Pre-registration begins at 7 a.m. at North Valley Acadmey. The race begins at 8 a.m. All participants receive a t-shirt with registration. Children 5 and under register for free. Medals will be given out to top finishers and to other fun categories such as the oldest and youngest runners. The Gooding Cross County Team will recieve this year’s proceeds.

Pedersen advises people to take these additional precautions to limit the spread of influenza: Wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth until you have washed your hands. Get plenty of rest, drink plenty of liquids, eat nutritious foods and take part in physical activity to stay healthy. Avoid people who appear sick. Stay home from work or school when sick. All of us have “Spheres of Influence” that guide us through the decisions of life - family, friends, church, co-workers, etc. If we live in a good bubble, the influences of those within it are beneficial. If we have a bad bubble or we let the wrong kinds of people in, the results can harm us. Politicians clearly live in bubbles and people are constantly trying to push their way in to influence how politicians behave. Because they represent a wide variety of people, politicians must be especially careful about who they listen to. Otherwise, they end up make big mistakes. Just before the November 6th election, an advertisement was sent out regarding Idaho’s Trespass Law approved earlier this year. The ad was critical of Representative Steve Miller and a clear mis-representation of his position on that issue. To her credit, Mr. Miller’s opponent, Muffy Davis, said she had nothing to do with that mailing. However, what she should have done was condemn it for the obvious lie that it was. Why didn’t she? First, the Democrats want to overturn that law. Second, the supporters of that advertisement are inside her political bubble. Consequently, she got sucked into the political game. For his part, Rep. Miller should have just ignored the ad. Was he justified in being angry about it? Yes. Should he have pointed out the inaccuracies? Yes. The problem is that he made the same mistake as his opponent - they both thought it was an important issue in the election. In truth, the outcome of this legislative race was decided back in May of this year when the Republican decided to run a full slate of candidates for District 26. From the very beginning (and certainly in the last couple of months) the Republicans intended to go all out to win all three seats. For the people in Blaine County, this was a big threat to the one thing that is important to them (and to all of us) - local representation. In particular, Blaine County residents were afraid they might lose Michelle Stennett. If you compare the number of District 26 voters who came out this year vs. 2014 - the last midterm election - the turnout was up by over 4000 voters, 3300 of those voters were in Blaine County (almost the exact the number of votes Mrs. Stennett won by). Going after Senator Stennett’s seat cost our area a good representative, and because of that political mistake, Camas, Lincoln, and Gooding counties are now without political representation in the state legislature (2/3 of the voters in those three counties voted Republican). Of course, this political friction between Blaine County and the other three counties in District 26 has been going on for a long time, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Before 1965, every county in Idaho had at least one senator/representative. Instead of pitting counties against each other in places like District 26, perhaps it’s time we eliminate this “legislative inequality” and return fair representation to all of our rural counties.

Phyllis K. Couch returned to be with her Lord and Savior on November 2, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Phyllis Couch was born on August 5, 1943 in Gooding, Idaho, as the youngest of 6 children of Glenn Henry and Ruth Mae (Simpson) Novis. Phyllis grew up on the family dairy farm west of Gooding. She attended public school in Gooding and graduated from Gooding High School in 1961. Phyllis married Jerry Couch on March 16, 1962 and had two sons, Jerry Lee Couch, Jr, and Clifford Glenn Couch. They moved between Idaho and Oklahoma in those early years, settling back in Gooding in 1970. They lived in Gooding until 1979 when they moved to Morden, Manitoba Canada, to work at the new Tupperware plant. In spring of 1988 she left Tupperware and moved to West Valley City, UT where she enjoyed being closer to family. In 2000 She and Jerry were divorced and she moved to Nampa, ID where she felt that she finally made it back home. In 2002 Cliff and Audrey were blessed with a daughter, Samantha Angelina Couch who was instantly Phyllis’ pride and joy. Everyone she knew heard about Sam. Phyllis also had several special pet companions including parrots Paco and Pete, and Lhasa Apso, Wicket. While living in Nampa, Phyllis reconnected with God and found peace and strength in her relationship with Him. She became a member at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed fellowship with her family in Christ there as well as her Singles Ministry and volunteering at Love, Inc. She enjoyed reading and walking, especially with Wicket and her sister, Betty. Phyllis is survived by her sister Betty (Harvey) Clampitt of Nampa, and brother William (Donna) Novis of Gooding, sons Jerry Couch, Jr., and Clifford (Audrey) Couch of Lakeland, FL, granddaughter Samantha Angelina Couch of Lakeland, FL, and many special nieces, and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Ruth Novis, brother Daryl Novis, sister Margaret Brew, brother John Novis and daughter-in-law Kathy Lynn (Weibe) Couch.

Brian Drue Verhoeven
Our precious son, brother, father, and grandfather, Brian Drue Verhoeven, 56, a resident of Wendell, Idaho, lost his battle with cancer on November 1, 2018 at St. Luke’s Magic Valley surrounded by family and friends. Brian was born on July 1, 1962 in Bellflower, CA, son of Gib and Diana Verhoeven. He was raised in California where he attended Artesia Christian School and Ontario Christian School until he and his family relocated to Idaho. Brian also attended the College of Southern Idaho for a short while. Brian was a loving person who left this earth too soon. He loved God, his family and friends with all his heart. Brian lived 100 years in his 56 years in this life going full speed ahead no matter the consequences. He lived every day to the fullest of his ability. He would give the shirt off his back to any of his friends in need, never asking for anything in return. Brian loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing with family and friends, skiing in his younger years, and snowmobiling. He will be missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his parents, Gib and Diana Verhoeven of Jerome, ID, two sons Rick (Kendra) Verhoeven of Twin Falls, ID, Randy (Shantel) Verhoeven of Kingman, AZ, daughter Brittney Langdon of Las Vegas, NV, brother Barry (Linda) Verhoeven of Hagerman, ID, and three grandchildren Taytum, Kaden, and Callie. Brian is also survived by his special niece Lacy Verhoeven and nephew Levi Verhoeven, very dear friend, Ray Vandervegt and faithful companion, Sammy. He was loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Brian is preceded in death his grandparents, Dutch and Louise Noordman, Martin and June Verhoeven, and his granddaughter Dana Verhoeven. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday November 17, 2018, at the New Life Community Church in Wendell, Idaho. Burial will be at the Wendell Cemetery. Directly following the service, the family invites you to join them at a luncheon honoring Brian at the New Life Community Church. Individuals who attend the CSI Law Enforcement program benefit in many ways. Students can earn college credits towards an associate’s degree, they can live at home to limit expenses, they can choose which agency to apply for after graduation, and they may receive a job offer while enrolled. These are only a few of the reasons you should apply for the CSI Law Enforcement Program today. Graduates of this 16-week program train to work as police officers, deputy sheriffs, detention officers, probation and parole officers, and dispatchers. Open Enrollment for Health Insurance
November 1st through December 15th, Idahoans can purchase health and dental insurance through Your Health Idaho for the 2019 plan year at YourHealthIdaho.org. Idaho’s health insurance exchange is the only place where individuals and families can receive a tax credit to help offset the cost of their monthly premium. Open Enrollment is a great time of year for Idahoans to stop and take the time to review their health insurance plans and make sure their plan works for them as situations and needs change throughout the year. More than 90,000 individuals and families are enrolled in health insurance through Your Health Idaho and 9 out of 10 Idahoans save 80 percent on their monthly premiums with a tax credit. “Your Health Idaho’s insurance marketplace offers Idahoans valuable resources and new tools such as formulary and provider search to help make it easier for families and individuals to compare and shop for health insurance plans. Many Idahoans are surprised to learn that by comparing and shopping for plans they may be able to find a more affordable solution that meets their needs and budget,” said Pat Kelly executive director of Your Health Idaho. This year there are 293 health and dental plans available on the exchange offered by seven insurance carriers. Your Health Idaho’s mission is to help Idahoans discover more affordable health insurance through the exchange, educate them about the value of having health insurance, and help them understand their coverage, especially when they need it most. Although navigating health insurance plans may seem hard especially when trying to narrow down the right plan, families and individuals are encouraged to work with one of 900 experienced agents and brokers statewide who are available for free to help them find a plan that works best for them. A list of agents and brokers can be found on Your Health Idaho’s website under “Find Help”. “We appreciate the efforts of our many partners including hundreds of agents and brokers, carriers, and industry partners in communities across Idaho who work hard, especially this time of year during Open Enrollment, to provide Idahoans with access and choice when it comes to health insurance plans offered through the exchange. Still, there is more work to be done as many Idahoans may not even realize they qualify for a tax credit. For example, a family of four making between $25,000 up to $100,000 may be eligible for a tax credit that could help them lower their monthly health insurance premium,” said Kelly.
