North Canyon Celebrates "Pink Out Day"

Last Wednesday was "Pink Out Day" at North Canyon Medical Center. Staff of North Canyon created a sea of pink by wear ing pink shirts in support of those affected by Breast Cancer. This event raises funds for the hospital's Breast Cancer program which provides free mammograms for women who might not otherwise be able to afford this life-saving service.
Other community organizations joined this annual cel ebration with their own fundraising. Pioneer Federal Credit Union set up a coffee shop in the morning hours and donated the proceeds to the Breast Cancer program. Western Waste Service brought in one of their iconic Pink Garbage Cans which are available to area custom ers to help raise funds for the program. Western Waste also presented a $1075 check to the program.
Whitney Johnson, the coordinator for the Gooding Pro Rodeo Tough Enough to Wear Pink, presented the donation raised from the Lunch & Auction held during the rodeo in August. This year's check was for $30,000. "I am still in complete awe over the success we had in 2022" said Mrs. Johnson. "We can’t thank every single person that supported us. $30,000 is a tremendous amount and shattered all expectations."

North Canyon has wasted no time in putting these funds to good use. They have purchased an ultra sound specifically to be used in the Mammography Department. Rather than making a second appointment for those patients needing further evaluation, they will now be able to do it immediately. This will drastically reducing the stress of waiting and worrying for these patients and their families.

Cup of Tee by Tee Hurd

© A week ago, an em ployee and myself were haul ing some oat hay from New Plymouth, Idaho, to Melba, Idaho. Both trucks with 45 foot trailers were loaded up. From the hill where the hay was, we had to cross a creek below it. The turn was very sharp and bank going into the creek was a little high on one side. As the truck ahead of me started through the creek, the trailer couldn't get around the corner. Needless to say, the load of oat hay tipped over as it was going through the creek. Odd sight to see... the truck upright and the trailer on its side.
We tried to upright the trailer with our loader. It wasn't going anywhere. I ended up standing on the air-born wheels and releasing the straps to get the oat hay off the truck. We got the rear set of big bales off the trailer as darkness crept up on us. Of course, our loader didn't have any lights. Now we were doing everything with one cell phone flashlight, as my cell phone was dead.
We decided to pull the trailer up on its side with the truck as we push it with the loader. The truck was sitting in the creek. I couldn't get to get there via the trailer. I crossed the creek below the truck at a low spot to get to the other side.
Once on the other side, I still couldn't get to the truck. With boots and all, I started to wade in the creek towards the truck in the darkness. The water came above my knees. Okay... am I going to plunge into a hole over my head? I
walked, or should I say... waded, even slower.
I got to the truck and drove it out as the loader pushed up the trailer. Things were back on all tires now. My comment to the other employee, "If this was Florida and I was expected to wade out to the truck in the dark with possible alliga tors, the truck would have to stay where it was."
A few days ago, you probably heard on the news a guy in New Plymouth was walking his dog and heard something in the bushes. The something he heard was a 3.5 foot alligator. Yes, an alligator in the farmland community of New Plymouth. If the alligator was found when I was wading the creek in the dark, it would have had me by myself especially after I made that comment.
In Idaho, it is illegal to have alligators without a special permit. Fish & Game is looking who lost the alligator. Is someone missing one from the Hagerman Valley where some are grown? No one wants to say they lost an alligator since there will probably be big fines.

For this “Cup of Tee” I quote the last line from Bill Haley's 1956 song, "See you later, Alligator. So long. That's all. Good-bye."
Tee may be in Fairfield this Saturday evening with a load of fresh picked potatoes. Check at the Iron Mountain Inn.

Joshua Jonathan Rast
obituaries
Joshua Jonathan Rast went home to be with the Lord October 6, 2022. Josh was known for his positive attitude, quiet strength, and love for God and those around him. Josh was a hard worker, eager to lend a hand, and led by example, leaving an impact on all he encountered.
Josh was born April 23, 1988, in Sun Valley, Idaho, to Jeff and Carol Rast, and grew up with his parents and older sister, Sarah, on the Camas Prairie in Fairfield, Idaho. As a child, Josh had a pleasant nature and adventurous spirit, and was well-liked and respected. Josh loved sports and enjoyed playing bass guitar at church. Driven by a passion and respect for animals and nature, Josh raised meat goats, rabbits and chickens, learning to process them with his dad. He became an avid hunter, even raising his own bird dogs.
In high school he went on mission trips with Teen Mania Ministries to spread the message of God’s love to people in Peru, and twice to South Africa. After high school he spent two years interning with Teen Mania’s Honor Academy where he did trips to Costa Rica and Dubai, and he spent a year on the road serving as camera man for the Acquire the Fire youth conferences all over the United States. After Honor Academy, Josh went to Northwest Nazarene University where he earned a Bachelor’s in Wildlife Biology with the intention of grad school.
At NNU, Josh met his wife, Lindsay, while working together at the campus Event Center in 2008. He was smitten after she invited him on a girls-ask-the-guys event. They began dat ing in their sophomore year, were engaged a little over a year later, and tied the knot on May 14, 2011 during their junior year of college. During college breaks Josh continued to pursue his passion for wildlife by working for the Forest Service in Fairfield, and after graduating he contracted with the Idaho National Guard monitoring plant and rattle snake populations. He also participated in research with the Idaho Fish and Game at the Eagle Fish Hatchery.
A month after getting their black lab puppy, Josh and Lindsay found out they were pregnant. During this time, Josh had a mole removed that was found to be melanoma. They welcomed their first child, Oliver, in February of 2015, and just over a year later while planning to move to Bozeman to be near Lindsay’s family, the melanoma was found in one of Josh’s lymph nodes.
Over the eight years with cancer, Josh and Lindsay made many beneficial life changes to help his body fight the melanoma, from choosing a plant-based diet, years of immunotherapy, alterna tive treatments in Mexico, and even virotherapy in Latvia alongside his dad. Even though the cancer persisted, Josh kept a good attitude and trust in the Lord despite the circumstances.
Just before his daughter, Katelyn, was born in 2017, Josh began working at Simms, where he was known as a “powerhouse across the production floor”, making high-end fishing waders.
Weeks before losing his dad to cancer in 2020, Josh and Lindsay were blessed and surprised to find out they were pregnant, and they welcomed Emmett in July 2021.
Like his dad, Josh loved to research, dream and plan, from arranging the 10-year anniversary get-away he and Lindsay took to Mexico, to listening to Disney podcasts in hopes of a future trip. He enjoyed volunteering his time at their church running the cameras and loved spending time with friends and their Bible study group. Though Josh loved to hunt, fish and snowboard, he loved even more to devote time to family, being goofy with the kids and teaching them to fish and play catch, and leading them closer to Christ through the Bible and prayer. Josh will be remembered for his powerful example of a life following Christ, honoring God in all he did.
Josh was preceded in death by his father, Jeff Rast. Surviving family members include his wife, Lindsay, their children, Oliver (7), Katelyn (5), and Emmett (1½); his mom, Carol Rast, of Fairfield, ID; and his sister, Sarah (Daniel) Tompkins, of Tacoma, WA and their children.
Josh's Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 28th, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. at Redeemer Church in Bozeman, Montana.

Barbara Teresa Rocha
Barbara Teresa Rocha passed away October 18, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 9, 1950 to Frank and Teresa Toste in Artesia, California.
Barbara grew up on a dairy in Snelling, California. As the oldest of her siblings, she took the role of helping out her mom and being able to help her dad on the dairy doing whatever needed to be done. She and her family moved back to Artesia where her dad went to work on a dairy that later relocated to Corona, California. This is where she met the love of her life, Al Rocha. They were married when she was only16 years old and they created a family having two kids, Joey and Bernadette.
Al’s family had a dairy in the Chino Valley, which they later relocated, as we all know, to Wendell, Idaho. Barbara’s life was all about dairy, church, and family. She was always helping with the dairy books, keeping the dairy clean, and even arranging tours. She never treated her employ ees like employees, they were family. Just like her real family, she always cooked for them. Besides being on the dairy Barb was very involved with her church. She would cook meals, host large fundraisers, and so much more. She loved her religion, and it was a big part of who she was. Every day since she was 13 years old, she would say the rosary.
If she wasn’t on the dairy or at church, you knew she was running around doing things with her kids. First Joey. Joey was always a part of the dairy life and was very involved in 4-H where Barb helped him. Then we have Bernadette. Bernadette was the dancer. Barbara would take Bernadette everywhere to compete. Barbara’s grandkids were her most prized possessions. She would do anything and sacrifice whatever she had for them. She was always picking them up, making them food, going to their games or cheer competitions. Whatever they were doing she was there without a doubt.
As time went on, she never lost her stubborn yet charitable ways. With a beautiful heart, Barbara flew away like a butterfly to her new home in Heaven.
She is survived by her daughter, Bernadette (Chris) Chandler; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Rocha; brother, Frank (Terry) Toste; sisters, Mary Lou Alves and Suzanne Avila; mother, Teresa Toste; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, Joey (Carissa), Jason (Kayla), Jacob (Ashley), Joshua (Brittnay), Chanel (Hayden), Chloe, Avery, Leighton, Slater, Roxzen, Deklen, Duke, and Oaklei.

Barb was preceded in death by her father, Frank Toste; her mother and father-in-law, Jose and Ida Rocha; her husband, Al Rocha; and her son, Joey Rocha.
A Rosary will be held at 6:00 pm, Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln Ave, Jerome. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Monday, October 24, 2022, at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, 216 2nd Ave E, Jerome. Graveside service will conclude at Wendell Cemetery, Wendell.
