October 30th in Shoshone Last Wednesday, District 26 Legislative candidates spoke at the Idaho Mountain Express “Pizza & Politics” forum at Wood River High School. (Read about that forum in the October 19th edition of the Express or go online to www.mtexpress.com.) Next Tuesday, October 30th, the Lincoln County Republican Central Committee will hold “Pie & Politicians” at the Lincoln County Community Center (Lincoln County Fairgrounds). This event will begin at 6 p.m. with a “Meet & Greet” social hour and at 7 p.m. state and local candidates will speak and answer questions. In Lincoln County there are two contested races. Cresley McConnell is challenging Charles Ritter (the incumbent) for the District One County Commissioner seat. Sheriff Kevin Ellis is facing two write-in candidates: Daniel C Ward of Richfield and Mike Bright of Shoshone. In the District 26 Legislative races there are four individuals running for the House of Representatives seats. For the last twenty years, Wendy Jaquet from Ketchum has held the District 26 Seat A position. At the beginning of last year, she announced that she would not seek another term. “It’s time for a new voice in the House from our district,” she said, and two individuals are running for that office. Gooding Soccer Takes State Last weekend, the boys soccer team from Gooding took first in the Idaho State 3A Soccer Tournament. In the district tournament, the Senators defeated Community School (7-1) and the Wendell Trojans (4-2) for the 3A High Desert Championship. They then went on to the state tournament at the Sunway Soccer Complex in Twin Falls to defeat Weiser (5-1), Bonners Ferry (2-0), and Fruitland (1-0), to take home the championship trophy.

Northside Volleyball Goes to Dietrich The Blue Devil Girls came out on top in the Northside Conference Volleyball tournament and will be playing in the first match of the State 1AD2 Tournament held at Twin Falls High School on October 26th and 27th. On Friday they will play against Deary H.S. at 8 a.m., then go on to play either Mackay or TriValley in the afternoon. The Richfield Girls also made it to the State Tournament this year by defeating Clark County at the play-in game last Saturday. They will play against Horseshoe Bend in Match 3 at 8 a.m. on Friday.

Football & Cross Country After their victory over Filer, the Gooding Senators will host the first round of the state football playoff competition this Friday, October 26th. Game will begin at 7 p.m. This year’s Idaho State Cross Country meet will be held at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston, Idaho, on Friday, October 27th. The various classifications will begin at different times starting with the 3A girls at 11 a.m., 3A boys at 12 noon, and the 2A girls and boys at 1:30 and 2:30 respectively. Hells Gate Park is located 4 miles south of Lewiston on the Snake River.
