Mushers Crush Wolves 72-12 at Homecoming 2018 Idaho Rodeo Hall of Fame

Friday night’s football games ended the football season with massive wins starting with the Camas County Mushers at 3:30 pm barreling through the Castleford Wolves 72-12 at the Mushers homecoming. At Dietrich’s 7 pm home game, the Blue Devils crushed the Hansen Huskies 54-21 while the Gooding Senators defeated the Wendell Trojans at the Senators home game 49-0. Ending Friday night’s games the Richfeild Tigers traveled to Hagerman, standing off against the Pirates, suffering a crushing defeat to the Pirates 26-84. In volleyball, the Shoshone Indians traveled to the Valley Vikings on Monday, October 8 for the 7:15 pm match where the Indians overcame the Vikings 3-0. Tuesday’s matches began at 6:30 pm in Gooding with the Senators defeating the Buhl Indians 3-0. The Wendell Trojans traveled to the Raft River Trojans for the 7pm match with Wendell just barely defeating Raft River 3-2. The Richfeild Tigers fell to the Hagerman Pirates 0-3 at the Tigers home match. On Wednesday, the Shoshone Indians blew through the Wendell Trojans 3-0 while the Dietrich Blue Devils suffered defeat against the Valley Vikings 0-3. The Vikings were back again on Thursday at the 7pm Wendell home game where the Vikings won 3-0 against the Wendell Trojans. In boys soccer, the Bliss Bears defeated the Buhl Indians 1-0 at Buhls 4:30 match on Monday, October 8. Wednesday’s match brought defeat for the Bears when they traveled to the Sun Valley Community School, standing off against the Cutthroats with a score of 0-1. In girls soccer, Monday’s match on Oct 8, the Kimberly Bulldogs defeated the Wendell Trojans 3-2 at the Bulldogs home match. The Trojans were defeated again on Wednesday against the Declo Hornets 0-3.
Hagerman Public Library Community Dinner
Since the Library has moved to its new home, we have been busier than ever with more and more people using the Library. To address the increase usage of the Hagerman Public Library, we are asking for your support with a fundraising dinner. The Community Dinner will held at the Legion Hall on Saturday, October 20th, from 6pm to 9pm. Tickets will be $12.00 each or family for $30.00. There will be a silent auction, a live auction, and we are selling tickets for a beautiful raffle quilt. The dinner being planned will be: Ham, Dutch potatoes, green beans, salad, bread and dessert with a no-host bar.

This year’s Idaho Rodeo Hall of Fame Induction Reunion and Dinner is being held at the Canyon Crest Event Center in Twin Falls (330 Canyon Crest Drive). A few tickets are still available, but call quick (208-539-0202). On Friday, October 19th, the event will get started at 1:00 with oral histories and display setup along with a Meet n’Greet. The annual reunion and Coors party will begin at 5 p.m. with appetizers and Coors Banquet Beer provided by TEC Distributing ($10.00). The Induction Dinner will be held on Saturday, October 20th (registration and ticket pickup starts at 4:00). Social hour will begin at 5 p.m. along with the silent auction. The Tri-Tip Dinner will be at 5:30, followed by a live auction and the inductions. The evening will finish off with entertainment by Director Don Jesser, Johnny U, and Ernie Sites! Dinner is $30 (adults) and $12 for kids 10 and under. If you just want to attend enjoy the entertainment, tickets are $10. The 2018 inductees are an interesting group including father-son, father-daughter, and husband-wife teams. Father-Son Inductees include Shawn Davis from Filer and his son Zane Davis from Blackfoot; Casey Bequeath from Caldwell and son Cody Bequeath of New Plymouth; and Arty and Bob Tyler of Rupert. Husband and wife teams include Kirk and Stevia Webb of Wendell; and Jim and Karen Fain in the Western Photograpy Category. (One hardly sees a rodeo picture back in the day that it doesn’t have a Fain signature on it!) The Father-Daughter team is Sheri Prescott Arkoosh and father Everett Prescott. Miss Rodeo Idaho and Rodeo America Joni James Smith of Jerome and Lake Charles, LA is being inducted in the Notables Category. Her Mother Karen Laven James was also Miss Rodeo America. Ernie Sites of Wendell is being inducted for his Western Poetry, writing, music and entertainment field. Ernie Sites is a true Southern Idaho cowboy. Other cowboys/cowgirls being inducted include Dee Pickett of Star Idaho, Judi VanDorn Thacker of Eagle, Idaho, and the late great Jackson Sundown (1863 – 1923), of the Nez Perce Tribe. He was known not only for his flamboyance but also for his expertise in bareback riding. Be sure to come to the event to hear the fabulous rest of the story!

To Whom It May Concern, During my time as principal of Camas County Schools, I have had the pleasure to observe and work closely with Mike McFadyen. I find him to be very dedicated to our students and to our district. Mike is a man of integrity and is devoted to his family, friends, and community. I trust Mike implicitly because he is a man of his word. I have never met anyone who has such a strong desire to be a positive influence nor have met someone who will drop anything to help a neighbor or a friend like Mike does. He has spent countless hours unleashing his talents throughout our schools, in an effort to improve our facilities and he takes offense to any offer of compensation. He also volunteers as a cook, has substitute taught and has hosted successful field trips aimed at igniting our students’ interests in Science and Technology. I haven’t had the opportunity to work with the other District 26 Legislative candidates as closely as I have with Mike McFadyen. I have heard great things about all of the candidates and it is my understanding that we are fortunate to be well represented. However, I do know Mike McFadyen very well and I know that he is not only capable of representing my community, but he will get to know the needs of all of the communities he represents. He will listen to your concerns and he will be your strongest advocate. If he is elected as a District 26 Legislator, I stand behind my statement that he will do the job and do it well. I have been a teacher thirty years in Idaho schools in a variety of roles: Title One Teacher K-5th, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade Teacher, Library Director, Literacy Specialist, Music and Performing Arts Teacher/Director. My passion is teaching and helping young lives learn not only all the basics, but to love learning. I am aware of the progress, the needs and challenges in our educational system. Without question, I will be casting my vote for Steve Miller for District 26A in the Idaho House of Representatives. Steve has worked tirelessly on the JFAC (Joint Finance Appropriations Committee) for the past six years to allocate funds towards encouraging effective spending for education. He raised children in Idaho who have gone on to successful careers in the military, medicine, farming and engineering. Steve is a legislator who believes in giving school districts more local control of how they spend their state funding. He is an intelligent individual who works for our schools to assure that students have the educational tools they require. He believes in accountability in education giving districts more local control. He supports Idaho students to be competitive in the workforce and successful in higher education. Julie Lynn has the composure of an Idaho State Senator who has been battle tested - and for good reason. Julie is retired Military. We Thank You, Julie, for your service to our country. Saying Julie Lynn has a unique background would be an understatement. She is a 4th generation Idahoan. She understands the importance of leadership, she values skills, insights, and abilities that bring people together to empower and mentor others. She is a mentor and leader of the Girl Scouts. I salute Julie and recognize her bold inspirational leadership. Julie’s leadership will embolden her in the State Senate. A few nights ago it was 3:00 a.m. and I was heading down the freeway towards home. I thought to myself, “I’m a little thirsty. I think I want some water to drink.” I figured I could stop at one of those fast food - fill you sack - drive through kind of places. Once I pulled in and looked at the menu board I decided I would grab a hamburger to go with the water. Besides that, I was the only one in line. I tell the female voice behind the speaker that I would like a water, a hamburger with catsup on one side and mustard on the other side, and tomatoe. She said you mean you want like catsup on one bun and mustard on the other bun, and tomatoe? I said, “Yeah, that’s exactly what I want.” It was confirmed on the order board. I thought, “Wow! I can finally order a hamburger the way I want it.” I got to the window where humans actively take my money and I was handed a bag with a burger in it. Before I got twenty miles down the road, I decided to check the burger. I opened the sandwich and each bun had catsup squirted on it with mustard on top of the catsup on each bun. It was too early to try to explain that I didn’t receive what I ordered. Then I noticed... no tomatoe! I told the guy at the window I had ordered tomatoe and there was none, and would he please hand be a slice of tomatoe. He hands me a box and says, “I ordered one but you got seven.” I said, “What do you are you talking about, one and I got seven?” He says, “I ordered you one tomatoe but you got seven. Thank you. Have a good evening.” “But wait,” I said. “Where’s the water?” He replies, “You didn’t order water.” I reminded him, “I sure enough did and it was confirmed on the order.” I was given the water and I drove around in the parking lot to eat the burger with catsup and

mustard mixed. The human tongue detects a multitude of flavors and it can separate taste. That is the reason you can actually enjoy some of the food we eat. I guess if I wanted special sauce, I would have driven to Utah to get a burger (that’s where “special sauce” originated in 1958). I thought going bald was a hereditary thing. As I get older, I find going bald is because you are actually pulling your hair out to get communication. I think when I get old enough to retire I will go to work at Walmart as a door greeter. By then, Walmart will be in the burger business and I’ll say, “Welcome to Walmart. How would you like your burger?” Of course, I could work as an operator for caller assistance (411) whereas you say something and the computer voice says, after you have repeated yourself eight times, “You want mustard. Right?” Maybe it is like an old jute box (for you younger people... a coin operated iTune phone) that has eight selections, out of four hundred. Each time you make a selection - be it G8 or C11 - it’s still just catsup or mustard as a choice you receive. I could start a drive-thru hamburger chain where you make your own hamburger. I would be similar to the French word I mentioned before - Buffet - or get it yourself. Maybe people are unable to read. Maybe those emoji things or those little symbols everyone has in their phones is how food orders are taken. I guess a tear drop symbol could mean syrup, cherry flavoring, or the plain ol’ water you originally ordered. My older flip phone would show some of those emoji’s, but my newer current one only shows a square each time someone sends me an emoji symbol. Back in the seventies a round circle with a smile meant, “Have a good day!” This is my “Cup of Tee” watered down.

Daniel Earl Hird
Daniel Earl Hird, age 66, passed away at home in Gooding, Idaho on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born November 20, 1951, in Gooding, Idaho to Earl and Faye Harris Hird. After graduating from Gooding High School, Dan attended the University of Idaho. During his adult years, he managed several different restaurants. He married Geneva Boyd and they had a daughter, Amanda Hird. One of Dan’s greatest joys was spending time with his granddaughter, Stella. Some of Dan’s best years were after he moved back to Gooding to care for his mother. During this time he attended the College of Southern Idaho where he earned an Associates Degree. Some of his fondest memories were from his time spent at CSI where he was always the teachers favorite and where he made lifelong friends. Dan also devoted time to the Boy Scouts as a leader. He worked at Steve’s Quick Service in Gooding. Dan truly loved working there and enjoyed brightening up every customers day as soon as they walked in the front doors. He loved making people smile, loved playing games, making jokes and doing magic tricks. His favorite food was blueberry pie. He had a knack of being able to fix almost anything. His nieces and nephews loved him dearly and were always thrilled when he came to visit. His backyard gave him great pleasure and a sense of peace. You could always find him from spring to fall working in his yard and garden. If you had the privilege of meeting Dan, you would have loved his gentle, kind-hearted soul. He was a true friend to many and had a heart of gold. He is survived by his daughter Amanda Hird, grandaughter Stella Compton, sister Deborah Hird McBride and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and brother Tom Hird. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the First Christian Church, Gooding, Idaho.

Burial will follow in Wendell Cemetery.

Dear Editor,
Four times I read and re-read your “from the Editor” column in the latest edition of the Courier (October 10, 2018) to understand what you were trying to say. In the end I’m fairly sure you were trying to pay Mike McFadyen a compliment for his propensity to think out of the box. You attempted to re-define the terms “liberal” and “conservative” at the front of the column, but to no avail. I am sure most readers thought you were out of your mind when you used “Mike McFadyen” and “liberal” in the same sentence. I know Mike personally. He is a highly intelligent and talented man whose finest trait is thinking out of the box. He is a Conservative who is not afraid to try new ways to achieve conservative values. A label of “status-quo” will not stick to him. Even though I believe you were trying to compliment him I also believe you tripped on your poncho in the way you tried to do it. Better luck next time. One last point about Sally Toone. You say she “believes in protecting our Constitutional rights.” That’s not exactly true at least when it comes to the Second Amendment. She earned a “D” rating from the National Rifle Association which shows she has no problem infringing on our right to keep and bear arms. For the record, Mike McFadyen received an “A” rating. Republicans Statewide Bus Tour
The Republican Party Bus Tour will coming through Fairfield on October 22nd. Camas County Republicans will host a Meet & Greet with a O&A with District 26 candidates (Steve Miller, Julie Lynn, and Mike McFayden) from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Soldier Creek Brewery (509 Soldier Road). The Bus Tour should arrive between 9:30 and 10:00 (they’ll be here for about 1/2 hour), then head over to Hailey, Picabo and Carey. The Bus Tour will travel through Shoshone and Gooding on October 26th. From 12:30 to 1:00 they will be at the Lincoln County Community Center (201 S. Beverly Street in Shoshone) and from 1:30 to 2:30 you can meet the Republicans at El Toro Restaurant (413 Main Street). After Gooding, the tour will travel to Glenns Ferry for a stop from 3:00 to 3:30 at the Chamber of Commerce (7 East 1st Avenue).
Lincoln County Pie & Politics Debate
Next Friday, October 26th, the Lincoln County Community Center (201 S. Beverly Street in Shoshone) will host the Lincoln County Pie & Politics Debate. Serving of pies, desserts and beverages will begin at 6:30 p.m.and the Debate begins at 7:00 p.m. All of the Legislative District 26 candidates - Republican and Democratic - will participate, and most of the local Lincoln County candidates will be on hand as well. NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR CHAPTER 10 OF ZONING ORDINANCE # 157 CONDITIONAL USE PERMITS NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN: on Tuesday, the 30th day of October, 2018 at 7:15 p.m. or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard, the Planning and Zoning Commission of Camas County will hold a public hearing at the Camas County Senior Center, 127 W. Willow, Fairfield, Idaho, to consider the approval of Chapter 10 of the current Zoning Ordinance for Camas County, in accordance with Sections 67-6509, 676511 and 67-6512 of the Idaho Code. The purpose of this hearing is for the public as well as the Planning and Zoning Commission to hear a new proposed Chapter 10 for Camas County regarding Conditional Use Permits. A copy of the proposed chapter 10 is available at no charge at the Camas County Courthouse Annex and at the public hearing.
