Water Hyacinth Found in Snake River Near Hagerman from the Idaho Nursery & Landscape Association What does this mean for the nursery industry in Idaho? Water hyacinth has been added to the ID State Dept. of Agriculture’s (ISDA) Noxious Weed List as an “Early Detection-Rapid Response” species. It can be very harmful to irrigation systems, rivers, lakes and streams. It is extremely aggressive plugging up waterways and wells. It has survived very well in the geothermal areas near Hagerman, and has spread in the Snake River aggressively to currently cover five to seven acres. You can no longer sell, install, or grow the water hyacinth. PLEASE DO NOT ORDER water hyacinth in Idaho. The ISDA will have the authority to seize any plants they find at any nursery. Since many nurseries are placing orders now for spring, please check your orders for water plants and make sure you cancel any water hyacinth orders.
