The 2012 Election Amendments & Propositions Besides the various candidates running for federal, state, and local offices, this year’s ballot will have two proposed amendments to the Idaho Constitution, and three Propositions. For a full text of these proposals, be sure to pick up the Idaho Voter’s Pamphlet at your courthouse or post office. The first proposed change to the Constitution (S.J.R. 102) involves changes to the law regarding “adult probation and parole,” clarifying that the state has control over felony issues and local governments have control over misdemeanor issues. The second proposed amendment (H.J.R. 2aa) would protect the right to hunt, fish, and trap, as part of our cultural heritage in Idaho. Both of these Constitutional Amendments are a simple YES or NO - yes, you are in favor of the amendment, or no, you are not in favor of the change. The propositions are a bit different, because they are intended to overturn existing law. In 2011, Governor Otter and the Idaho Legislature passed three laws (S1108, S1110 & S1184) that dealt with various aspects of education in Idaho. Dubbed “Students Come First” legislation by the supporters and “Luna Laws” by the dissenters, you will have the opportunity to vote for or against these laws. ----Proposition One is in regards to S1108. Gooding Senators Take District Title It took 27 years to repeat, but the Senators are once again conference champions. Last week, the Varsity Football team easily defeated the Filer Wildcats in their final Conference matchup to earn the title of District Champs with a 7-0 record for the season. The JV’s also won last week, however, in the middle school both squads lost tight defensive battles in Filer. The Senators will play Homedale this Friday at 7 p.m. -------------------------------------
Dietrich Defeats Camas Last night, the Blue Devils took the Musher Ladies down a notch with a 3 to 1 home court victory. Tuesday night’s scores were 25-19, 25-17, 18-25, and 25-23. This Saturday, the Northside Conference volleyball tournament will begin with the junior high and junior varsity teams playing in Dietrich. The varsity teams will face off starting next Tuesday, October 16th, in Dietrich as well, and the State Tournament will be October 26th and 27th. -------------------------------------
Gooding Invitational Cross Country Meet On Tuesday, October 9th, the top team scores for the men’s cross country went to Kimberly (30), Gooding (42), and Filer (81). for the women’s teams the top scores went to Valley (57), Gooding (58), and Declo (69). On October 17th, Gooding will host the 3A, 2A, & 1A District competition.
