Fairfield Bond Election November 5, 2019
In 2009, following significant failures of the City’s Wastewater Collection System, the City of Fairfield embarked on a wastewater facility replacement project addressing the most critical areas. The project replaced approximately 70% of the City’s collection system. However, in December of 2017, the City received an Administrative Order from the EPA requiring the City to address the remaining problems with the Wastewater Treatment and Collection System. According to the EPA mandate, the upgrades to the system will need to be completed prior to December 2022. If the City does not comply with the directives set forth in the Order and complete the project in the designated timeline, significant financial penalties will be enforced on the City of Fairfield. In order to pay for the remaining portion of the project, City officials have determined that it is necessary to hold a bond election to secure $1.5 million in bond financing. The election has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2019. Sewer rates will see an increase in order to repay the bond. Public meetings have been scheduled in order to give residents an opportunity to learn more about the project and share their input. Wastewater System Replacement Project Bond Election Public Meeting Tuesday, October 8, 2019 and Tuesday, October 29, 2019 7:00 p.m. at the Senior Center - 129 Willow Avenue West If you are unable to attend the meeting, you may contact City Hall at 208.764.2333 with questions or to provide your input. Additional information regarding the project are available upon request at City Hall.
