Hagerman Bird Festival

This time of year brings thousands of winter birds to Southern Idaho, and the Hagerman Valley is a prime area to see birds most people only see in books. This last weekend, the Hagerman Valley Foundation began its annual free bird watching tours with a visit to the Eagle Tree and various other locations. If you missed the first tour, don’t be dismayed - more tours are scheduled for the next three months. February: Sage Grouse Mating Dance March: Sandhill Cranes, Trumpeter Swans, Elk & Moose April 23-25: 2021 Hagerman Bird Festival All field trips are limited to small groups (typically 10-15) and are first come, first served. Sign up as soon as you can to get your preferred options. Call 208-536-0094 to get on the Festival update list to be notified of the schedule and changes. And remember... winter bird watching can be windy, wet and chilly, please dress warmly and wear comfortable boots. Along with the birding hikes, there will be workshops, speakers, owl prowls, kayak birding trips, and a trip to Banburys’ hot springs pool! You can also win a prize at the art contest, make a bird house or bird chime, brush up on your binocular skills, improve your backyard birding environment, and get involved with their brand new Barn Owl Box program and research project! All presentations will be held at the Hagerman Grange Hall - 240 Salmon St East.

Arctic Circle Comes to Wendell

The Arctic Circle Restaurant chain, one of the western United States’ oldest and most successful businesses, is celebrating the opening of two new locations in Burley and Wendell Idaho. “We are excited to open two new restaurants in the Twin Falls area,” said Kasey Christensen, COO of Arctic Circle Restaurants. “Arctic Circle has found a home in Idaho over the years with the continued success of our other locations in the state. We look forward to opening more restaurants throughout the region in the near future and continuing to serve our fellow Idahoans for years to come.” Located at 333 W. Main Street in Burley, and 319 S. Idaho Street in Wendell, the new restaurants mark 26 locations throughout Idaho, with multiple additional openings planned for 2021. The restaurant dining rooms have the capacity to seat 28 and 38 guests, respectively, and will employ more than 100 people in all. The new locations are owned and operated by Wendell native Blake Ruffing and his wife Ginette. The Ruffing’s previously owned and operated Burley Burger, the local burger joint now home to the new Arctic Circle locations. While growing up, Ruffing dreamt of owning the burger joint he frequented as a child. Today, he and his wife Ginette own and operate four Arctic Circle locations. In addition to the new locations in Burley and Wendell, they have restaurants in Kimberly and Diamondville, Wyoming.
