No matter the restrictions, Donna and Nolan just wanted to become husband and wife

ASt. Helenian living in Wiltshire, it was thanks to a dating app that Nolan met Donna, who lived in London. “They say it’s love at first sight,” Nolan says. “But I can honestly say that Donna is a sight I want to be forever in love with. I’m still discovering infinite ways to love this amazingly beautiful woman.”

It’s no surprise that 18 months into their relationship, Nolan was planning to pop the question to the woman of his dreams. “It started off as a normal day out when we decided to stop for some food,” Donna remembers. “As we were queuing outside a busy restaurant, Nolan tapped me on the back and I turned around to find him on one knee! Saying “Yes” was the easiest and best decision I’ve ever made.” The pair set the date for 8th September, 2020, and while the pandemic meant their plans changed dramatically, they just wanted to be married. I bought a white lace dress from JJ’s House. Originally it came with shoulder straps, which I wasn’t too keen on. Alterations Boutique did a fantastic job of removing the straps and tailoring the dress to fit me perfectly. We loved the architecture and décor in the ceremony room at Old Marylebone Town Hall. Afterwards, we chose to head to the nearby Mandeville Hotel; it was the perfect size for our restricted number.

Nolan wore a navy suit with vibrant orange accessories to reflect his bright personality.

The Mandeville Hotel provided an amazing three-course meal for us and our closest loved ones.

We had an elegant one-tier cake from Bloom Bakes.

Enetertainment was limited because of COVID restrictions, but we had a great sound system and we played tunes into the evening.

DONNA’S TOP TIP: “Do what works for you! We spent a lot of time discussing what we wanted and we stuck to what was right for us as a couple.”

The Mandeville Hotel were great on the day. The team were super-accommodating and added lots of extra touches for us. Nolan says his most memorable moment was seeing my beauty light up the room when I entered. Mine was the unexpected nerves I had before walking down the aisle to marry the man of my dreams.

Sadly we had to limit our guest list to just eight people, so lots of our family and friends couldn’t share the day with us. It took some planning and time to adapt, but everyone was very understanding. We both believe that tomorrow is never promised - so why put the wedding off? As much as we imagined a much larger wedding, the most important thing for us was sealing our union in marriage. We can’t wait for a big celebration post-COVID.
