PEELINGS MANOR BARNS

Peelings Manor Barns is located in the pretty hamlet of Hankham between the South Downs and Pevensey Levels. The manor of Peelings is mentioned in the Domesday Book, but there’s been a settlement on the site since Anglo-Saxon times and probably long before that. The manor and farm buildings are Grade II listed, with the earliest surviving part of the house dating back to the late 15th century.

THE “I DOS” Although the venue isn’t licensed for ceremonies, many opt to have a blessing during their reception. These can take place anywhere on site with space for 100 in the Flint Barn or 200 maximum capacity across the whole venue.

THE CELEBRATIONS A totally DIY venue, Peelings Manor Barns offers the ideal blank canvas for wedding receptions. The space includes the stunning Grade II listed traditional Sussex flint barn with its cartwheel chandeliers and enclosed outdoor spaces to the front and back along with plenty of cover. You hire the space only and everything else is up to you with complete freedom of choice. You have the option to hire all or part of the space. The same capacities of 100 inside the barn and 200 site-wide apply.

THE GREAT THATCHED BARN AT FLAMER COURT

The team at Falmer Court are proud to be custodians of The Great Thatched Barn. A new, exclusive venue it will only be hosting a limited number of weddings per year. The Barn is the largest Medieval thatched barn in the country and is a staggering 900 years old.

The grounds here are immaculately maintained with a beautiful formal garden where you’ll be welcome to take pictures to remember your special day. There’s also a fabulous stretch tent on the lawn, which offers the ideal spot for reception drinks and canapés.

THE “I DOS” How and where you exchange your vows here is your choice. The barn offers a memorable inside space and can seat 130 loved ones. Alternatively, if the open air calls to you, the grounds are also available to you and can host your ceremony.

THE CELEBRATIONS With its soaring timbered roof, flint walls and oak beams giving it a cathedral-like feel, the historical Barn really does deliver an incredible atmosphere for a magical wedding. Also, incredibly versatile it can be arranged to suit your preferred layout and can seat 200 for your wedding breakfast. It can also accommodate the same number for the evening revelries.

Cissbury Barns can be found nestled on the Cissbury Estate in a beautifully secluded setting that’s part of the venue’s charm. Providing an abundance of fabulous photo opportunities at every turn, the Estate is beautiful whatever the time of year. Brick and flint walled gardens surround the barns and your guests are welcomed either through the secret garden with its living handmade rustic doorway or from the top entrance into the large imposing courtyard complete with its own petanque court. What’s more, the enclosed ceremonial and patio walled gardens offer attractive and relaxing space for friends and family to mingle and enjoy the tranquillity of being hidden away in the South Downs. as The Glade, both with capacity of 120. The former offers flowing white voile drapes, elegant lime-wash chairs and bespoke rustic wooden furniture, which all combine to make it a naturally romantic place to say “I do.” Meanwhile the venue’s newest addition, The Glade, offers a magical outdoor ceremony experience overlooking the Estate.

THE CELEBRATIONS The West Barn has the wow factor in spades with its gorgeous oak beams and high pitch roof. The beautiful fairylight canopy and crystal or rustic chandelier await you and your 120 guests for the wedding breakfast and will be ready for you to enjoy. Large double doors either side of the central barn allow oodles of light to flood in. The fabulous bar, which was once the lambing pens, is reached through the main barn offering an additional spot for relaxing throughout the day and evening alongside the gorgeous festoon-decorated stretch tent. The venue can play host to 200 evening guests.

Set among 85 acres of glorious Sussex country, Blackstock Estate boasts two converted and restored wedding barns. With a picturesque lake and plenty of intimate areas around the grounds, there’s ample opportunity for five minutes of precious escapism as newlyweds. Here, you can wander as well as encountering a myriad of photographic options for your couple shots. THE “I DOS” The Tudor Barn is a fabulous 500-year-old restored Sussex barn, retaining many of its older features. It’s licensed for ceremonies and can play host to 120 loved ones. During the summer months you may choose instead to be wed in the grounds of the Estate. Here, it’s possible to invite 150.

THE CELEBRATIONS The Granary is a stunning restored barn with a magical atmosphere and floor-to-ceiling windows boasting breathtaking views. It can accommodate 150 of your nearest and dearest.

FIELD PLACE MANOR HOUSE & BARNS

A fine example of an 18th-century English country house, Field Place can be found nestled in eight acres of Green Flag award-winning grounds. The manor house contains many of its original features that have been fully restored to their finer glory.

The grounds offer spacious greens and gorgeous wedding gardens for beautiful photo opportunities a plenty, as well as a playpark to entertain the children while the adults chat and mingle.

THE “I DOS” The beautiful wedding gardens offer a spectacular outside ceremony space, set among white planting. This area allows for up to 150 guests, with contingencies in place to utilise the Pavilion Barn in case of inclement weather.

Set inside the manor house, the Oak Room is steeped in history. With Jacobean oak-panelled walls dating back to 1624, it creates an intimate space for up to 25 loved ones.

The Chichester Room, boasts its original Georgian facade. Lit by elegant French chandeliers and finished with mink white and damask wallpaper, it can accommodate 95 nearest and dearest.

Finally, the Pavilion Barn features exposed beams and a long sweeping aisle. This delightfully spacious setting allows for ceremonies of up to 150 guests. Situated east-west with a north side of flint and a pan-tiled roof it provides a covered terrace overlooking the wedding gardens.

THE CELEBRATIONS After the “I dos” you’ll be welcomed to your reception with drinks and canapés on the parterre, surrounded by gorgeous gardens with plenty of space to sit and relax.

Dine and dance the night away in the fully-converted Sussex Barn, which radiates warmth and delight with its original oak-beamed high ceilings, fairylight canopy and soft furnishings. Boasting views of the gardens the Sussex Barn also includes a licensed bar. It has double-door glass alcoves on each side, making it a light and airy space with capacity to sit up to 120 loved ones for the wedding breakfast and more for the evening bash. It also has a working stage where your entertainment can set up.

The Pavilion Barn is also licensed with a bar and has a private courtyard garden to make the most of including seating and a firepit.

Whether you’re joyous that restrictions have passed, or are still a little hesitant, couples can rest assured our venues are continuing to maintain some of the government guidelines and measures to ensure everyone can feel comfortable and enjoy the day:

• Attendees will need to pre-register to attend events • There will be allocated time slots for visitors • All venues will also have enhanced cleaning procedures, with hand washing and sanitising facilities still available • Spaces between exhibition booths will be maintained to ease congestion • Optional face masks • Anyone with symptoms must refrain from visiting

Each event will boast a huge range of specialists who will be on hand to talk through your planning ideas and requirements; venues, bridal boutiques, photographers, fl orists, cake makers and more, there’s everything you could need to plan your wedding under one roof.

On the day refreshments will be available to purchase from each of the venue’s on-site restaurants, bars and cafés, and attending our exhibitions is free!
