Sadie and Joshua met at nursery aged three. “We went to different primary schools, then a few months before starting high school a friend reintroduced us – and we became best friends pretty much straight away!” says Sadie. “It was a gradual process falling for each other, and it was only when we left sixth form that I realised how much I missed seeing Joshua every day – and that being with your best friend is all you could ever wish for.”

Joshua proposed when the couple had been together almost six years. “We were on holiday in New York for Joshua’s birthday,” continues the bride. “We walked to Central Park and Joshua suggested we hire a rowing boat. As we rowed close to Bow Bridge Joshua picked his moment, as there was a saxophonist on the bridge playing Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love. Joshua stood up and got down on one knee with the ring box, and I was so gobsmacked my initial response was much less polite than ‘yes’! I’d secretly searched the house before our holiday and never found a ring – it turns out he’d given it to my best friend the day he bought it, who kept it at her house for four months!”

The couple set the date of 30 April, 2022, marrying at St Katherine’s Church and choosing Unique Occasions at Loversall Farm for their reception. Here, Sadie tells us more about their big day…

A friend suggested we view Unique Occasions – and we fell in love with it right away. The marquee was stunning, and the barn perfectly rustic with beams and gorgeous staircase.

For our table plan we opted for a New York theme as a sentiment to our engagement, all named after the City’s landmarks.

I stayed on the farm the night before the wedding with my bridesmaids, so we had a horse and carriage transport us to the church.

I opted for lots of mixed foliage for our wedding flowers, mixed in with some gypsophila, roses and hydrangeas.

Our centrepieces were stunning acrylic plinths with large white foliage arrangements. Even the venue’s owner got emotional saying how lovely it looked.

Our cake was a simple yet stunning three tier bake, with a hidden Mickey Mouse with our initials inside as a nod to our love of Disney! We decided on lemon, chocolate orange and Victoria sponge flavours.

We had a cigar bar for guests to help themselves to, which went down a treat! Both our families enjoy a cigar on a special occasion, so it was the perfect touch.

During our welcome drinks we ditched traditional canapés for a cheese table from Smart Occasions, which was a really popular choice.

We lost Joshua’s Grandad the previous Christmas, and he never got to open his Christmas present; a special edition whisky. We had a whisky station set up with his photo for family toast him.

Joshua and his groomsmen wore three piece tuxedos, complete with Hugo Boss velvet bow ties. He also wore a velvet jacket and different coloured tie to stand out.

We also had a dog treat station for guests to take home a bag of treats for their fur babies from our pup, Joey. It was so popular guests kept asking me if I had any more bags!

I wore the Dream gown by Ronald Joyce. It was exactly what I wanted –traditional A-line, it featured lace sleeves and left me feeling covered up enough for a church wedding.

My bridesmaids looked gorgeous in their multiway dark sage dresses from La Closet De Chanel. They’re all different shapes and sizes, so could style them exactly how they felt comfortable.

Marrying in April on a farm meant that there was lots of new life around. A new baby lamb was even carried into the marquee after our wedding breakfast – everyone was lining up for a cuddle!

During our evening reception we opted for an Ibiza-style saxophonist and DJ. They both worked amazingly together and entertained our guests all night long!
