The grounds are bursting with both beauty and 200 years of history. The Italianate gardens are a particular highlight with urns and terracing, plus a myriad of colourful flowers blooming all year round.

The Wellington Suite is the Hotel’s most popular wedding space. Situated on the ground floor it consists of two rooms with connecting doors, its own bar and large windows offering fabulous views of the gardens. From here, you’ll have access to an external patio area and the gardens beyond. The space can accommodate 90 for the ceremony and wedding breakfast and 150 for a standing buffet. The Garden Restaurant is elegant and bright with views over the landscaped garden and patio area, to which there is direct access. There’s an adjoining bar and lounge area, complete with ornate fireplace and chandeliers. Plus, the Garden Suite has its own dancefloor with fitted disco and lighting, available if the venue’s DJ is booked. It can accommodate 180 for the ceremony, 180 for the wedding breakfast and 250 for a standing buffet. There’s also a choice of more intimate spaces: The Darwin Room (60 ceremony, 60 dining, 65 buffet guests), The Amelia’s Room (40 ceremony and 40 dining guests), and Leona’s Room (20 ceremony and 20 dining guests). Some of the wedding packages include a menu-tasting and some also include an anniversary meal.

Combining 15th-century charm and elegant spaces, Donnington Manor Hotel offers a seamless blend of modern-day comfort and fabled British heritage. The beautifully appointed wedding spaces here have been designed to be blank canvases allowing you to add your own personal stamp and décor.

The Riverhead Suite was designed with large weddings in mind. It provides everything you need for your big day. Here you can host 200 loved ones for a drinks reception, 160 for the ceremony, 140 for a seated wedding breakfast and 160 for the evening with buffet and dancefloor.

The Cromwell Room is a modern addition to the Hotel, which is suited to all tastes. It’s ideal for smaller weddings and those looking for an intimate ceremony. It can accommodate 60 nearest and dearest for a drinks reception or ceremony, 40 dining at round tables and 50 for the evening do.

The venue is also blessed with some glorious outside spaces. The beautifully manicured lawn and patio is the ideal spot for a summer drinks reception, informal dining or even a marquee wedding. There’s room for 200 guests for a drinks reception, 150 for the “I dos,” and 120 in a marquee.

MERCURE TUNBRIDGE WELLS HOTEL

Built around an original Georgian dower house, this charming four-star hotel offers the perfect blend of traditional and modern. The oast house provides a grand entrance for you and your guests, while the original Georgian dower house and terrace has a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere. All of the function rooms here are decorated in a neutral palette able to complement any colours or theme you desire.

The Parkside Suite is the largest of the function rooms situated on the ground floor and is fully-accessible. Here, there’s ample space for 150 loved ones for both ceremony and celebrations. It has its own private function bar and direct access to a private garden, meaning your guests have everything they could need in one place. It’s also licensed for entertainment until midnight.

The Park Avenue Suite can be found on the first floor of the dower house and boasts original, Georgian, arched windows, creating a beautiful backdrop for ceremonies, so it’s no wonder it’s the venue’s most popular. It can host 70 nearest and dearest for the “I dos,” and 50 for more intimate wedding breakfasts.

The Park View Suite is ideal for smaller ceremonies including up to 40 loved ones. It overlooks and has direct access to the Park View Courtyard.

The venue hosts only one wedding per day and offers a complimentary bedroom for you both for the night of your wedding. Also included is a menu tasting, one-year anniversary meal and discounted accommodation for wedding guests across its 84 bedrooms.

If you’re looking for somewhere special to hold your wedding reception in Canterbury, then Canterbury Cathedral Lodge is well worth a look. Situated in the inspiring grounds of the Cathedral, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the heart of the city, the venue caters for any size of wedding reception from small and intimate to a sit-down meal for up to 120 guests.
