Our experts share venue styling inspiration to help couples plan their dream wedding

Venue styling is essential to any wedding as it sets the tone for your day while matching your colour scheme and vibe. A simple space can be transformed into your dream location with just a bit of magic and help from the experts. Once your budget, theme and venue are confirmed, book a venue stylist as soon as possible to help guide you through the experience and answer any worries or concerns. We’ve hand-selected companies to share their top tips for styling the perfect wedding while incorporating the time of year.

Spring Haze

Kate says, “Keep your main colour palette simple as spring flowers will add a pop of colour, or go modern with a metallic accent colour. Add the wow factor with statement pieces such as blossom trees, which can be repurposed after the ceremony.”

Caroline says, “Embrace the season’s freshness by opting for soft pastel hues with one or two statement pieces, such as a large foliage-based arch, to welcome your guests and as a backdrop throughout the day. Greenery and foliage will add texture and create a garden-like atmosphere.”

Caroline says, “Spring is the perfect season to fill the air with delightful scents, using room fragrances or incorporating scented candles into your wedding décor. Consider using lavender, jasmine or rosemary for a fragrant but soothing ambience.”

Anna says, “Embrace the pastel tones of the seasonal florals in the floral arrangements, table decorations, invitations and props. Transform the venue with rustic crates, milk churns or floral China teacups as an alternative to champagne flutes.”

Anna says, “We love low trestle tables with gorgeous vintage rugs and comfy cushions as an alternative to a formal wedding breakfast. Enjoy this unconventional and intimate setting by playing around with the colours.”

Rebecca says, “Pastel tones are the season's colours and will be the most sustainable of stems. My go-to is hand-dipped candles such as Ester & Erik in varying hues that can elevate a table setting by adding height. Add napkins and glassware to complement the colour palette.”

Rebecca says, “ This time of year is the perfect opportunity to introduce jam jar or bottle designs as pockets of flowers look so pretty throughout a long table setting or on a wood slice in the centre of a round table. Add a cheesecloth runner in a complementary tone, and you have a beautifully romantic scene.”

Kate says, “Flowers wilt quicker in the heat, but you can prevent this and hay fever with truly beautiful faux arrangements. Consider keeping your wedding sustainable with linen napkins and a handwritten mirror table plan is a must.”

Caroline says, “Summer lends itself towards soft pastels to evoke a sense of romance, or more vibrant colours such as electric pink, red, yellow, orange and cobalt blue. Balance the colours with beautiful neutral tones so it's not overwhelming. White is also a popular choice for a crisp and clean aesthetic.”

Anne says, “Incorporate as much of your wedding outside as possible for a relaxed summer vibe. Add a boho-shaded lounge area for your guests to escape the heat and rest their dancing feet. It's also great for photo opportunities and to spend time together away from the crowd.”

Anne says, “Why not add lawn games for your guest to enjoy while taking advantage of the sun for your outdoor photos? Consider croquet, Jenga, Connect 4, lawn bowls and limbo. Outdoor games bring fun and laughter to all guests while uniting everyone. You can relax and enjoy your day knowing guests are having a great time.”

Rebecca says, “Summer brings a host of taller florals perfect for creating pockets of interest in different areas of the venue. Delphiniums, larkspur, hollyhocks and lupins offer great height for flower meadows down an aisle or against interesting features. Remember that you can reuse your arrangements.

Rebecca says, “Summer is the ideal time for arches as you're more likely to have good weather and capture the shots you desire. Many venues or churches can have an arch, whether attached to the wall or freestanding. By introducing this feature, you're creating an area where guests can capture the perfect photo.” enquiries@eventperfection.co.uk Tel: 01794368624

Kate says, “Embrace the darker night and warm rich colour pallets while bringing in a mixture of textiles to add depth. Natural, earthy colours such as stone, champagne and rust are coming through for weddings with dark green still making an appearance. It’s all about deep purple for 2024.”

Anne says, “It's the season of fallen leaves, with deep red, orange, brown, copper and gold shades. Wooden furniture will elevate the natural autumnal colours with unlimited tones, textures, shades and grains. Reclaimed wooden trestle tables are impressive coupled with beautifully worn vintage mix-and-match chairs that can accentuate nature’s pallet.”

Caroline says, “Carry the vibrancy of nature this time of year through your design with an eclectic mix of colours. You can bring in the season’s richness by layering different textures, such as velvet, within your table place settings or even as the ribbons bind your bouquets. Use elegant chandeliers, fairylights, candles and lanterns to create a romantic atmosphere as the sun sets.”

Rebecca says, “Festoon lighting, fire pits and lanterns can create a great outdoor feature at a minimal hire cost, ensuring guests can stay out and use other parts of the venue. An apple crate of throws can also ensure a cosy night by the fire pit.”

Anne says, “The Halloween season offers the perfect opportunity for an alternative, edgy and dramatic look. There can be something ominous about vintage apothecary bottles. Resembling potion bottles are great for flower displays or as small props and decorations. With dripping candles, black linens and moody florals, you can forget tradition and give your guests a spooktacular day.”

Rebecca says, “Although florals are abundant, foliage is also a great way of styling a space over the winter. I try to create layers of interest so you don’t have a flat horizon. A floating foliage installation is fairly cost-effective and can create an incredible feature above the dancefloor. Add a few fairylights, and you have a magical design.”

Kate says, “Think about candlelight as it gets dark around 3 pm. While a taper candle looks amazing when first lit, they get shorter and black wax is all too common. So go LED to keep that wow factor for your evening guests too. Add a neon sign to add a pop of light to brighten up a dark corner.”

Caroline says, “Incorporate romantic dusty pinks to add elegance, slate grey for a sophisticated modern look or deep jewel tones for added depth to the venue. Use accents of gold to add a touch of luxury or shimmering silvers for a slightly cooler tone. Use an abundance of candles in fireplaces, on the tables, aisle, walkways, windows and around floral displays or signage.” www.samburgephotography.co.uk

Anne says, “Add a lounge area with comfy sofas, armchairs, rugs and blankets to let guests relax with a blanket and a warm drink. Offer guests the option of hot chocolate, mulled wine or cider to enjoy and embrace the festivities.”

Rebecca says, “Reds are everywhere seasonally, but it doesn’t mean your wedding needs to look like a Christmas wonderland. Burgundy tones can be softened with light pink metallic tones to create a warmer feel this time of year. Muted gold accents for votives and candle holders are great for creating elegant tablescapes to wow your guests.”
