Woodlands Lodge Hotel provided the ideal location for Chris and Netty’s beautiful wedding Images courtesy of Faye’s Photos

These lovebirds first met through a mutual friend but didn’t go on a date until a few years later to the New Forest. They enjoyed some time at Lepe Beach, followed by a walk with ice cream before dinner. They shared many ideals, including an interest in classic vehicles as Chris is a Volkswagen owner while Netty has an affinity with Minis. Initially, Chris planned to get down on one knee on a beautiful day within the grounds of Tintern Abbey, but he couldn’t find the right moment and ended up popping the question on holiday. After a coffee, the pair strolled to the water’s edge to enjoy the beautiful scenery while listening to the chorus of grey seals. With no time like the present, Chris proposed against the dramatic backdrop. Here he shares details about their special day...

Our aim was to creatte an intimate wedding that reflected the season.

We wanted to remain close to home as that means we can return to the venue to enjoy it more informally, reminisce and share our memories of the day.

The team at Woodlands Lodge Hotel were lovely, accommodating and supportive – they made the planning process less stressful.

The venue’s gardens are particularly lovely in the summer – we were lucky to enjoy some wonderful sunshine.

We left the flower selection to our expert florist, who did an excellent job selecting florals to match our autumnal colour scheme.

A local baker created our wedding cake with icing to resemble bark and autumnal falling leaves cascading down the side. Our cake topper reflected Netty’s love of cats.

As classic car lovers, there were multiple options for transport on the day. Netty has always had a soft spot for a Moggy, and it was an immediate ‘yes’ when we saw this beauty.

My mum has Alzheimer’s, so it was essential to make these memories with her presence while we could. We hope she’ll recognise the venue to relive those memories together.

Aside from the thrill of becoming husband and wife, we both enjoyed a slow-paced drive through the forest while residents offered their best wishes as we drove by.

Sharing the day with family and friends made our wedding extra special – what more do you need?
