Georgia and Jack’s coastal wedding enjoyed Polurrian on the Lizard as the stunning backdrop

From the moment we met, we both knew that it was the beginning of our lives together. After our second date, we both deleted the dating app because we knew that we wouldn’t need it again. After a few weeks, Jack met my entire extended family and I’d visited his parents with him in Devon.”

The couple became engaged after having gone ring shopping together. “Jack wanted to know that I would love the ring because I would be wearing it for the rest of my life,” Georgia tells us. “He was planning on waiting a while after we had purchased it to propose, but he got down on one knee after dinner one evening while I was staying with him at his base at RNAS Culdrose (he is in the Royal Navy). It wasn’t what he had originally planned but it was perfect – it was very romantic and spontaneous!”

Here, Georgia tells us all about their wedding at the Cornish coastal hotel Polurrian on the Lizard which was decorated with a cream and green colour theme. She says “We started planning our wedding just eight weeks before the big day itself. We became engaged on 26th June 2022, and we agreed that we’d like to get married in 2023 because we were in the process of buying a house first. However, with Jack qualifying as an Observer the following summer, we were never going to be sure if he would be home or away on the ship, so we both decided that rather than planning a wedding and not knowing, in August 2023, we decided to get married that October!”

With Jack being based at RNAS Culdrose, we had spent plenty of time walking along the cliffs nearby and having picnics not far from the Polurrian on the Lizard hotel. We chose the hotel as our wedding venue because it’s in a beautiful location and is a fantastic representation of how wonderful Cornwall is!

With just eight weeks to book a venue, we were pushed for time and choices, but when we discovered that the team at Polurrian on the Lizard had availability on a date that worked for us, we were delighted!

For the wedding, we wanted to keep everything simple and natural and let the beautiful setting of the hotel and location do the talking.

We had rustic wood décor, glass candle lanterns and a beautiful wooden archway draped with fabric that was used in the ceremony and also framed the entrance to the wedding breakfast.

“During our wedding breakfast, in typical Royal Navy style, the best man was handed place names that had writing on the back of them. This is typical for a military dinner so Jack and I knew to take our place names before anyone could get them. At the end of the speeches, they were read out to everyone. We had one officer perform an Irish dance, another singing a sea shanty song and my dad singing a hymn.” — Georgia and Jack

Keeping with the simple, timeless theme, we chose a lightly-iced white cake decorated with real flowers in white and green. Jenna, the cake designer and owner of Jenna’s Signature Bakes did such an amazing job. I already knew about her beautiful cakes because she lived in the house opposite my parents.

Jack’s cousin baked us plenty of goodies for our wedding which included cupcakes decorated with green marbled fondant and our initials and wedding date. They were amazing and tasted delicious

“We were both so excited and nervous at the same time. We were looking forward to enjoying eight weeks worth of hard work and planning!”

We made our own pick ‘n’ mix sweetie bags for our favours which were personalised with our names and the wedding date.

I

I also wore an elegant pair of bridal shoes.

I chose two different styles of dresses for the bridesmaids because they were varied in age, height, shape and size. The dresses were sage green to match our theme. They also wore diamanté sashes to match mine.

We hired a DJ for our evening entertainment because we both knew that we wanted to party and dance the night away! It was such a great success, the dancefloor was never empty and the party went on until the DJ finished just after midnight.

Our photographer, Jake, and his assistant made the day run so smoothly! His assistant helped me into my dress when all of my bridesmaids were frantically getting ready. Later in the day, we were taken out on to the cliffs for our couple portraits just as the sun was setting which was perfectly timed. Jack and I were able to be together and take in the day before getting back to get the party started!
