Ailsa and Scott hosted a wedding to remember at The Parlour at Blagdon

Images courtesy of Laura Eddolls Photography and Scott met at work. “I was Scott’s manager, with us trying to be serious at work making things tricky at the start,” says the bride. “However, his smile and humour soon drew me to him. We’re also the total opposites: I’m serious, and he isn’t, and I hate mess – and he’s so untidy! It just goes to show that opposites do attract!”

Scott popped the question after the couple had been together six years. “We took a trip to Scotland, exploring Loch Fyne and Loch Lomond,” continues Ailsa. “I always said if Scott was ever to propose, not to do it up a hill or mountain, as although I enjoy it I’m partial to moaning about the climb! Of course, he ignored that, finding a hill and having us walk higher and higher. I whinged and whinged until we got to the top, before we sat on a bench and discussed what to do next. Scott asked if I’d enjoyed all the surprises –the locations in Scotland and activities he’d planned. He then said; ‘I have one more surprise’, which was when he got down on one knee. I burst out crying – it was the happiest I’d ever felt and it was so special being just the two of us.”

The couple set the date of 18 February, 2023 – Ailsa’s 30th birthday – choosing The Parlour at Blagdon as their venue. Here, Ailsa tells us more about their big day…

Scott’s a joker and likes to wind his friends up, so we picked shots as favours for our guests to do during his speech. Their faces said it all!

Our florist was amazing from the get-go. She made the most beautiful bouquet using eucalyptus, lisianthus, gypsophelia, white delphinium, asparagus fern and white roses.

We made our own place names, as Scott’s view was ‘people look to find their seat, and that’s that’. I couldn’t argue –he had a point!

On the morning of our wedding I was so excited and couldn’t wait to start getting ready. We popped the Prosecco and started the very early 5am morning preparations!

I knew I wanted a dress with lace, and something which complemented my figure. My Stella York gown was breath-taking, and I felt so confident and happy wearing it.

For someone who isn’t bothered by styles, every single suit Scott tried on wasn’t right! Eventually we found the perfect ones in Next; plain navy with grey waistcoat and pink tie.

I had eight bridesmaids, and wanted them all to feel beautiful on the day. I ordered a variety of dresses, and it was lovely spending an afternoon together trying them on.

We couldn’t have been happier with our catering. Everyone who attended our wedding said it was one of the best wedding menus they’ve tasted.

My Nana is a very precious lady to us all. She spent the day feeling like a celebrity, as everyone was making a huge fuss over her!

My twin sister did an incredible maid of honour speech. It was our 30th birthday on our wedding day, so I had to twist her arm a little bit to let us get married on the same day!

We stumbled across local singer, Dave Lynas at a beer festival. He had everyone up on their feet singing along, and I’d recommend him to anyone.
