Websters Ropery, set on the bank of the River Wear, is a grade II listed building, built in 1793. Filled with an abundance of character, and once the world’s busiest rope house, each room has been sensitively decorated and tastefully restored to maintain the character of this wonderful building. It even still features the original open beams, exposed brickwork and stonework, as well as brass handrails and welcoming open fireplace. The Queen View Suite is licensed for civil ceremonies and can comfortably accommodate 120 seated guests. Located on the upper floor, the room has an abundance of natural daylight as well as beautiful views overlooking the river. After your vows, enjoy drinks and canapés in Webster’s Bar, enjoying its private bar facilities, quirky furniture and adjoining river terrace area. Your wedding breakfast can then be held in the Banqueting Suite for up to 100 guests. Afterwards, head back to the Queen View Suite for your evening celebration for up to 150. Featuring private bar facilities, a large dancing area, and resident DJ, the space transforms into the perfect party room to dance the night away!

We particular love their tropical Garden – complete with palm trees and fire pits for a ceremony under the sky – and the incredible floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors of the Liberty Brown space, which opens straight on to the botanical terrace with vires of the Northern Spire Bridge.
