SWAG.EU

In 2017, brothers Alan and Gary McCormack took a decade of lessons learned from running leather goods company CarveOn and teamed up with Robert Kennedy to build a new type of custom products company, called Made Personal. After five years of working closely with multinational clients, we noticed that many were frustrated with dealing with different vendors in each of the countries they operated. They found that the quality and decoration of the products varied dramatically. International shipping and duty charges on often low price items made it cost prohibitive to use the same vendor for the US and Europe. Simultaneously, Brexit left Ireland as the only native English speaking country in Europe. In 2022, we began working with developers to address and alleviate these common pain points and SWAG.EU was born.

Solas Bhríde Centre & Hermitages CLG. Solas Bhride Centre & Hermitages is an initiative of the Brigidine Sisters. The Centre evolved from over 30 years of Brigidine ministry in Kildare Town. Two Brigidine Sisters, Mary Minehan and Phil O Shea came to Kildare 1992 to reclaim St. Brigid of Kildare in a new way for a new millennium. They opened a small centre for Christian Celtic Spirituality called Solas Bhríde. The Vision of the Centre was to explore and unfold the legacy of St. Brigid of Kildare and her relevance for our world.

There have been many highlights in the Solas Bhríde story since 1992: In 1993, Afri, an NGO invited the Brigidine sisters to co-host an international conference in Kildare town to mark the 10th anniversary of its St. Brigid’s Peace Cross Campaign. St Brigid’s flame having been extinguished for centuries was relit in the Market Square by Mary Teresa Cullen the leader of the Brigidine Sisters. At the conclusion of the conference a spark was taken from the flame, it is being tended as a beacon of Hope, Justice and Peace in Solas Bhride ever since.

06

Emerging from that first conference came the founding of Cáirde Bhríde – a group of women and men committed to promote the spiritual and cultural heritage of St Brigid. In 1995 we were invited to take the Brigid flame to the Royal Albert Hall, London in preparation for the UN Women Conference in Beijing. The flame has been carried to other peace conferences throughout Europe. Pilgrims come in increasing numbers from across the globe to find out more about St. Brigid. While visits the Dalai Lama, President Mary Robinson, President Mary McAleese, and Thomas Berry are symbolic and cherished memories it is often our less well-known visitors who have left an indelible impact on Solas Bhríde and the local community. Many of these visitors and pilgrims keep returning to Kildare.

Solas Bhríde Centre & Hermitages CLG.

Increasing numbers of pilgrims necessitated a larger pilgrim centre. The site for the centre was secured in 2007 and the sod turned in February 2013 by Rita Minehan, csb. The official opening of the centre took place on January 30th, 2015.

By then Solas Bhríde was a registered company with its own governance structure and Board of Directors, we were granted charitable status in 2011.

A proud highlight for Solas Bhríde was the Gathering Event in 2013 and the achievement of a Guinness World Record by gathering 357 people to weave a St. Brigid’s cross in St. Brigid’s Parish church at the same time. This record still stands
