Introduction

Welcome to Your Suffolk Pub! There’s something special about a good pub - the kind where the fire’s crackling, the ale’s flowing, and the locals are ready with a story or two. Here in Suffolk, we’re lucky to have more than our fair share of proper pubs, from cosy country inns nestled in sleepy villages to lively town spots brimming with character, and characters! This guide is your passport to discovering the very best of Suffolk’s pubs. Whether you’re on the hunt for the perfect Sunday roast, a quiet pint after a coastal walk, or just fancy a nose around somewhere new, we’ve got you covered. Think of it less as a directory and more like a local friend sharing their favourite haunts. We’ve wandered the winding lanes, sampled the local brews, and pulled up a few bar stools so you don’t have to (though we highly recommend you do). Expect recommendations for classic cask ale pubs, hidden gems with cracking beer gardens, and places where the food’s just as good as the drink. Suffolk’s pub scene isn’t just about what’s on tap – it’s about atmosphere, community, and those little quirks that make each spot unique. You’ll find tales of smugglers, ghost sightings, and landlords who know everyone by name. So whether you're a Suffolk local, a visitor passing through, or someone just keen to explore a bit of authentic pub culture, we hope this guide leads you to a few great nights, memorable meals, and perhaps even your new favourite pint.

Vernon Blackmore and his team have now been at the Anchor for more than 10 years. Our offering has developed into what we feel a quayside pub should be. Great beers, a friendly warm welcome, food that you would expect in a good British hostelry with additional dishes that reflect our backgrounds and passion. We want you to feel the history in the pub, so we’ve been very careful not to remove the old charm and character. The floor tiles may have been professionally cleaned, but they are still wobbly and remind you of sailors past spilling beer on them. However, a pub is about people, so come and enjoy it with us and let us welcome you in. Check out our website (displayed at the bottom of the page) for full details of opening times, menus and events. The Anchor in Woodbridge is part of the portfolio looked after by Vernon Blackmore and his team. Also check out our country pubs: The Easton White Horse, IP13 0ED and The Duck, Campsea Ashe, IP13 0PT.
