Becky Yu
Bandon High School Class of 2020 valedictorian Jessica Tittle, 17, is the daughter of JoDee Tittle, a hospital administrator, and Daniel Tittle, who works at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. She has an 11-year-old sister, Brooklyn, who is her best friend. Jessica has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout high school and worked hard to graduate as valedictorian. She has been on the girls golf team since 2018 and has been involved in community service all four years of high school. She was a member of the Robotics Club and participated in the Healthcare Careers Pathway program. She also worked at Bandon Coffee Cafe and currently works at the Minute Cafe. Jessica has been accepted into Arizona State University’s Barrett Honors College, where she will be majoring in medical studies at the College of Health Solutions located at their downtown Phoenix campus. Her degree will allow her to obtain the necessary prerequisities and experience needed to grow into the competent and compassionate physician she’s always wanted to become. In addition to completing her usual coursework, Jessica has plans to become an Emergency Medical Technician through Arizona Academy of Emergency Services. As an EMT, Jessica will be able to serve her community and help people in need while learning valuable skills that she will continue to use for the rest of her professional career. Jessica’s advice to her classmates: “As valedictorian, I advise my classmates to not let this unfortunate situation bring them down or discourage them in any way. They are all incredibly intelligent, talented and thoughtful individuals with bright futures ahead of them. I can’t wait to see the great things they accomplish!”
BHS Class of 2020 salutatorian Becky Yu, 18, is the daughter of Yong Zhao Yu and Yan Xia Chen, better known as Jesse Yu and Lisa Chen, owners of Asian Garden restaurant in Bandon. She has one sibling, her brother Andy who was in the BHS Class of 2017. During high school, Becky was involved with the girls golf team, concert band, jazz band, Surfrider’s Club and was president of both the Kiwanis Key Club and the Rotary Interact Club and was co-captain of the BHS Speech and Debate Team. She is graduating with a 3.95 GPA. Becky has been named outstanding freshman, sophomore and junior female scholar in biology and Spanish and overall excellence in physics. She has also been involved in many community service activities. Becky plans to attend Bryn Mawr College, a small liberal arts college located in Philadelphia, to major in political science wth a pre-professional emphasis on law. She hopes to pursue a career either an an in-house lawyer or an immigration lawyer. As a first-generation college student and is hoping to have a “non-traditional” college experience, where she can explore other majors, career pathways or programs. She is excited about the sense of community Bryn Mawr offers, which she feels is similar to what she experienced at Bandon High. Her words of advice to her fellow classmates: “My words of advice are to try your best in everything you do. You don’t have to like whatever you’re doing, but give it your all so you can say ‘at least I tried it,’ and then move onto something that you enjoy doing, because life is supposed to be enjoyed and cherished.”

She plans to study bio-health sciences at Oregon State University with the eventual goal of becoming an ophthalmologist.
Jessica is the daughter of John and Renee Rowe and has been president of National Honor Society and also a member of the equestrian and cheer teams, horse 4-H and the class council. She plans to attend George Fox University and major in biology.

Salutatorian Morgan Baird Morgan is the daughter of Bryan and Wendi Baird. She has been a standout basketball player and has a scholarship to play for Portland State University. She also has held positions in class council, National Honor Society and Philosophy Club and participated in band, volleyball, track and field and cross country. She plans to study global studies at Portland State and hopes to become a diplomat or foreign service officer.

She also participated in track and soccer and was an active member of the band. She followed in the footsteps of her dad and grandmother, who also were valedictorians. She plans to attend Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, where she will study nutrition and dietetics with the eventual goal of becoming a sports nutritionist working with a collegiate or professional sports team.
Salutatorian Samantha Huffman Samantha is the daughter of Terry Huffman and Misty Thrash. She has held positions in National Honor Society, Key Club and Speech and Debate club and also been a leader on the cheerleading squad and participated in the band. She plans to attend Oregon State University and study fisheries and wildlife biology.

Brianna Giacomini
Edie Clarke is a resident of Coos Bay and daughter to Dustin Clarke and Kim Leberti. She was a member of Associated Student Body, Science National Honors Society, Outdoor Club, Z-Club, Vice President of National Honors Society and Managing Editor of the Marshfield Mahiscan. Edie participated in the MHS charity program where she helped raise funds to benefit the local ARK and Share Bear Snack Programs. She has danced for 12 years at Pacific School of Dance, is a senior company member with Ballet Pacific and has spent past summers dancing in Washington DC, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City. Edie Clarke was accepted into the ballet program at University of Utah where she plans to double major in ballet performance and kinesiology.
Kaylee Delzotti is the daughter of Karl and Denise Delzotti. During high school she has been presented with these Academic awards; Spanish one & two student of the year, James E. Atwater, Ann Kiessling, Linus Pauling awards for science. Kaylee was a Four-time varsity letterman in Track and Cross country. She was the MHS charity program Co-Coordinator, National Honors Society President, Radio Management General Manager, Science National Honors Society Secretary, Cross Country & Track Capitan. Kaylee was a member of the Zonta Club, Rho Kappa, Skills U.S.A and Technical National Honors Society. After High School she will be attending Linfield University to study Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, while also running Cross Country and Track. She later plans to Pursue a career in Pathology.
Brianna Giacomini is the daughter of Laurie and Jayson Wartnik. During her time at Marshfield, she was involved in a variety of activities. Brianna was the Interpretation Captain of the Speech and Debate team and was an Event Coordinator in past years. She played softball for four years, on both JV and Varsity. She was part of the Mandrala Players and was active in theatre, getting a or the lead role in three productions. Brianna was a reporter for the Marshfield Times and a member of the National Honors Society. She has received a number of awards and trophies; History Student Award in her sophomore year and a Science Student Award in her junior year, as well as 4.0 Honor Roll awards for each semester during her four years there. In theatre, she won the Disney Star award her freshman year and Best Actress her Junior Year. In Speech and Debate, she won numerous 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies, took 5th at State in Dramatic Interpretation her Junior year, and has qualified for Nationals in Dramatic Interpretation both her junior and senior year. Brianna plans on completing her AA at Southwestern Oregon Community College this summer before attending Pacific University this fall where she has received their Honors Scholarship. She hopes to major in Marine Engineering, Renewable Resources/Energy Engineering, or Environmental Sciences, with a minor in Acting.

This class has had to endure a complicated set of circumstances on its way to the finish line. Their resilience and dedication to building on the MHS legacy will not go unnoticed. Their achievements were many, their pride and sense of togetherness will undoubtedly set them apart from all other classes. Hannah Mork is the daughter of Ling and Richard Mork and the sister to Jodi Mork. She resides in Coos Bay. While attending Marshfield she was involved in a variety of different activities; Science National Honors Society, Treasurer of National Honors Society, National Technical Honors Society, Rho Kappa, Z club, Publicist and organizational director on Associated Student Body, and worked in the attendance office at Marshfield her senior year. Hannah was a 4 year varsity cheer team member, 2 years as captain. One of her hobbies was showing beef and dogs through the Coos County 4-H program. She was a volunteer at Bay Area Hospital lab in prep for her future plans. Hannah will be attending Carroll College in Montana as part of their Direct Entry Nursing Program in pursuit of becoming a nurse anesthetist. She also signed to be a part of their cheer team, Go Saints!
Liam Webster is the son of Ellen and Wallace Webster and brother to Isabella and Amelia Webster. He resides in Coos Bay, OR. Liam is a small town kid with big-time dreams. In high school, he spent a lot of time trying and doing. Liam participated in baseball and football throughout high school. This last season he was a Senior Captain on the football team and received 1st Team All-League as an outside linebacker. He has been part of the Marshfield Radio Management Team and was elected Co-General Manager of the station. Liam is the National Honors Society Co-President, Marshfield’s Associated Student Body Vice-President, participated in Z-Club and also Science National Honors Society at Marshfield High School. He was a contestant for this year’s Marshfield Charity Program. Liam plans to attend the University of California Berkley Engineering School this fall.
McKena Pederson is the daughter of Ryan and Tonya Pederson. She is graduating from Marshfield High School. During high school McKena was a four year varsity member of the Marshfield Upbeats and the tennis team and a two year captain of the Upbeats. She placed 4th and 5th place at the state dance competition in 2017 and 2019. McKena was a four year member of the Marshfield Times staff and held the positions of Managing Editor of Design and the Managing Editor of the whole staff. She was part of student leadership for three years and this year she was the Student Body President. She is also the vice president of Science National Honor Society, a member of National Honor Society, Marshfield Outdoor Club, Z-Club, and Quill and Scroll. She was named to the 2019 OSAA academic all-state team for the tennis season. McKena won the Carl’s Jr. Scholastic Star award with the dance team in 2018. She will be graduating in June with her Associates Degree as well as her high school diploma. In the fall McKena plans to attend Brigham Young University in Provo Utah and major in history.
Salutatorian Aubrie Rush Aubrie Rush is the daughter of Tiffany and Chad Rush. Aubrie resides in Coos Bay and is graduating from Marshfield High School. Throughout her four years of high school she has been involved in National Honors Society, Science National Honors Society, Zonta Club, Spanish Club, the Marshfield High School Charity Program as a partner as well as being a part of the volleyball and basketball teams. Aubrie has taken dual-credit classes through SWOCC and had a part-time job. During her time at Marshfield she received awards for the 4.0 Honor roll freshman year and Honors Roll the last three years and will be graduating with an allied health certificate. Aubrie was also KMHS Girl of the Month this past November. She plans on going to a four year university this fall to receive a bachelor’s degree to pursue some type of job in the radiology field.

First of all, I miss you!!! As I sit in an empty school and write to you, I worry about each of you. My hope is that you are healthy and safe. Each time I catch myself worrying about you, I try to focus on the happy memories of school. In those memories, the halls are vivacious and loud to the point of ear bleeding, but I see you sitting in your nooks at lunch, competing in activities, and giving the teachers a hard time. It is important during this time that you lean on friends, family, school staff, and the wise for support. Valedicatorian Kairah Beltz
Kairah is the daughter of Tonia and Mark Crippen. She plans to attend the Aesthetics Institute of Portland and become a master esthetician. During her time at North Bend High School she was involved in the school’s jazz choir and select choir. She also was involved in many art classes and loved English. Outside of school, Kairah enjoys painting, being outside and spending time with friends and family. She also really enjoys her position at Fred Meyer.

Megan is the daughter of James and Regina Farmer. She plans to attend Pacific University with a double major in literature and creative writing. Megan participated in many activities while at North Bend High School and was a valued member of the following groups: Speech and Debate, Yearbook, Theater, Knowledge Bowl, Student Council and National Honor Society. She is especially proud of being the captain of the Speech and Debate Team and being a part of their growth, and also for designing the yearbook as co-editor.
Jacob is the son of Jeff and Tracy Lang, and Sherri Kessler. Jake plans to attend the University of Michigan, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is undecided about his major and will take a multitude of different classes while at school to find out his passion. During his time at North Bend High School, Jake was the treasurer for the National Honor Society, a percussionist in the symphonic band and a pole vaulter on the track and field team. He enjoys working out, playing the guitar, watching hockey and flying his drone.

Valedictorian Catherine Kelsay Catherine is the daughter of Alan and Francine Kelsay. She will be attending Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia and will focus on costume design and themed entertainment design. During her time at North Bend High School, Catherine was the secretary of National Honor Society and a master dough thrower for the Blazing Bulldogs. In addition to her work in culinary, she was on the girls bowling team and in International Club. Outside of school, Catherine remains very active in Job’s Daughters on both the state and local levels. She loves reading, sewing and painting and cannot wait to start her new journey on the East Coast.

Elisabeth McDowell Elisabeth is the daughter of Shelley Miller and Timothy McDowell. She will be attending Oregon State University to study either psychology or education. Elisabeth was the vice president for Key Club and Interact Club and the treasurer for International Club. She was the campus beautification chair for North Bend High School and participated in Student Council and was a part of the select choir for four years. Some of her accomplishments from high school were being a July Jubilee princess, going to state with the girls bowling team her junior year, helping plan the winter formal that raised money for Every Child Coos County and being a section leader in choir.

Nico is the son of Linet Samson and Dara Parvin. He will be attending the University of Oregon with plans to double major in psychology and sports management with a goal of being a general manager in the future. During his time at North Bend High School, Nico was active in ASB and Student Council as the Senior Class President and also was involved in Chess Club, tennis, golf, football, National Honor Society and a member of the Homecoming court. Nico has also joined the National Guard to serve his country and help fund college. He makes his mother very proud.

Genasea is the daughter of Darci McNamee. She plans to attend Oregon State University. She will be majoring in physics so she can later pursue her dream of becoming an astronomer. While attending North Bend High School, Genasea took part in many different clubs, from Bullet Journal Club to National Honor Society. She loved to sing and be a part of her school choir and had fun playing tennis in the spring. One of her favorite hobbies is going outside to walk the trails of different parks and learning new things, like how to ride a skateboard.

Kylie is the daughter of Heather and Jeff Leiferman, and Tyler and Suzzy Gaunt. She plans to obtain a bachelor in biology at Oregon State University’s Honors College, continuing on to an accelerated nursing program in order to obtain a bachelor in nursing. By the end of her schooling, Kylie plans to become a pediatric registered nurse, perhaps one day becoming a nurse practitioner. While at North Bend High School, Kylie has loved her time as drum major for the 2020 marching band, vice president of the North Bend High School National Honor Society, leader of her clarinet section her sophomore and senior years, recipient of SWOCC’s Allied Health degree, North Bend High School Honors Diploma, and captain of the 2020 NBHS track and field team. She has played the clarinet since sixth grade, has been on the varsity track and field team all four years of high school, has been very active in her 4-H group, and has also participated in the 2020 Miss Coos County Scholarship Program. She enjoys the outdoors and spends most of her free time hiking and going to the beach. From high school, she will miss the memories with her friends and the memorable trips she took with band, her classes and the track and field team. She wishes to thank all her teachers and coaches for the advice and help they gave her in high school, and will use her newfound knowledge through every step of her upcoming college experience and throughout life.

Hassaan Qadir Hassaan is the son if Hira and Dr. Hammad Qadir. He plans to major in biomedical engineering at Yale and found a biotech company. He was a bass section leader, swam and ran long distance. Hassaan practices calisthenics and Islam. He also founded the Bulldog Pageant, a community fundraiser raising over $5,000 for local foster families. His advice is to get 1 percent better every day.
Madeline is the daughter of Jason and Aimee Finnigan. She plans to attend Oregon State University’s Honors College and follow the pre-med track with a major in biology with the ultimate goal of becoming a psychiatrist. During her time at North Bend High School, Maddie took many college classes and will also be graduating this year with three associate’s degrees from Southwestern Oregon Community College. Outside of school, Maddie loved to play softball for her high school team and her club team in Salem.

Layne is graduating with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. He is the son of Ken and Canada Converse of Bandon, Oregon. During high school, he has been an active member in his school and community, participating in National Honor Society, robotics, and student government. He also volunteers as a firefighter for the Bandon Fire Department, founded Pacific’s Young Americans for Freedom chapter, and was a national competitor for Future Business Leaders of America. Layne plans to attend Oregon State University’s Honors College for mechanical engineering.
Madison is graduating with a 3.96 GPA. She is the daughter of Jesse and Tori Hall. While at Pacific she has been an active member in basketball, track, 4-H, and the National Honor Society. Madison will be attending Southern Oregon University to pursuea Bachelor’s degree in Emerging Media and Digital Arts. After graduating she hopes to continue her education and receive a Master’s Degree in Education.
Ending your high school years the way that this year ended is not the way that it should be, but our senior Pirates have done a great job in adapting. They have continued to work hard, making sure that they are still moving forward in their future. Pacific’s motto has always been that we welcome our alumni home with open arms and I hope that this year’s graduates remember that Pacific will always be here, ready to support them in their journey and cheering them on. Thank you to the senior families and the communities of Port Orford and Langlois for the support they have given our graduates and staff during the past four years. Without them, we wouldn’t be as successful as we are in providing a well-rounded education to our students. I am proud to have been a part of this journey with our 12 seniors and wouldn’t want to have been anywhere but here. David Pedrick David Pedrick plans to study chemical engineering at Oregon State University in the fall. He will also be a member of the Air Force ROTC unit as a scholarship recipient. He wants to be an Air Force pilot. While in high school, David participated in student government, football, basketball, cross country, and track with track being his favorite. Except for the canceled track season, he qualified for state every year and placed two of those years, anchoring the 4x400 relay to a state championship. He hopes that the struggles that he and his class have faced will be rewarded with greater endurance.

Salutatorian Maria Cano Maria’s parents are Lupe and Donna Cano. Maria plans on studying nursing at SWOCC in the fall. Maria has been the Student Body Treasurer for the past two years. Maria has also been a student tutor after school and for summer school for most of her 4 years in high school.
The Powers School District is proud to recognize the Class of 2020. While they are small in number, they are great in potential! We are graduating five seniors this year; David Pedrick (valedictorian), Maria Cano (salutatorian), Hayden Kamakele, Hailee McKnight and Jeremiah Beagle. These young people have worked hard to reach this milestone in their lives and they are a talented group. Each of this year’s seniors has taken advanced math courses beyond Algebra II and they are all poised to succeed in the next step of their education.

Reedsport Community Charter School Valedictorian Elsa Frakes Elsa was raised in Reedsport. She is the daughter of Ron and Beth Frakes and a big sister to Elias and Lily. Elsa has participated in swimming and track and was National Honor Society president. She was the student blood drive host and was an honor roll student all 4 years. Elsa plans to attend Oregon State University majoring in civil engineering.
Principal’s Message Jerry Uhling To the Graduating Seniors of Reedsport Community Charter School, I’d like to extend my most heartfelt congratulations for reaching the pinnacle of your high school years. Unfortunately, your year was cut short by no fault of your own but this doesn’t in anyway diminish your great accomplishment and the impact you’ve had on this school and community. I wish you the best going forward onto the next adventure of your life. The following is something I received some time ago and I found it to be perfect advice to all seniors. Such Is Life: There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them. Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy. Always put yourself in others’ shoes, if you feel it hurts you it probably hurts the
Salutatorian Makenzie Seeley Makenzie is the daughter of Heather and Jon Train. She is big sister to Garrett, Natalie and John. Makenzie graduated high school with a 3.8 GPA. She was the National Honor Society Vice President. She participated in varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball for four years. She was second team all-conference setter for volleyball her junior year, and first team all-conference setter her senior year. In basketball she was a three-time honorable mention, and played in the South Coast All-Star game two times. In softball she was first team all-conference pitcher her sophomore year, and second team all-conference utility her junior year. She was a homecoming princess her junior and senior year. While being active in sports and academics, she also contributed 70 community service hours. Her junior and senior year she also held down two jobs, one at the local Ace Hardware store, and a second job as a lifeguard at the Highland Pool. She plans on attending college at Lane Community College and obtaining a degree as a physical therapist assistant other person too. The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and will end with a tear. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can’t go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you’re the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying. Dear Seniors, Congratulations! Your high school graduation has arrived. You have endured challenges over the past few years that would have caused others to collapse. Your perseverance to complete your high school diploma is commendable. Thank you for letting Winter Lakes High School be part of your education.
