While churches around the country suspend or move worship services online due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) concerns, 35 parishioners made the decision to attend the 11 a.m. Catholic Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Lincoln City last weekend. Typically the pews are filled during the morning service. See more about how COVID-19 has affected Oregon in this edition of The News Guard and online at thenewsguard.com.

Lincoln County Circuit Court Judge Sheryl Bachart has announced her bid for re-election as Circuit Court Judge, Position 1, 17th Judicial District. “I am seeking re-election because I want to continue to serve the community I grew up in and the community in which I have chosen to raise my own family,” Bachart said. “During my 12 years on the bench I have presided over every type of case, including criminal, civil, family law, probate, juvenile, fish and game and traffic.”

Staying true to its beach roots, Pelican Brewing Company adds to its flock, breaking ground this month on its newest location on Siletz Bay in Lincoln City. Pelican is planning another unique brewpub experience, at the former site of The Bay House restaurant—to showcase the magnificence of this beautiful stretch of the Oregon Coast. The new brewpub is expected to open early in 2021. While actual groundbreaking will take place on the site this spring, a community celebration will be planned for a future date. 24 years after opening its first venue—and Oregon’s only oceanfront brewpub—in Pacific City, Pelican brings its iconic beach culture to another Oregon coast town. Like its other locations in Pacific City, Cannon Beach and Tillamook, the Siletz Bay brewpub will offer craft beers unique to that location—and a modern yet casual and relaxing

Over the course of the past week, Oregon Governor Kate Brown has taken several steps to attempt to limit the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) within the state, including her announcement to close Oregon schools from March 16 to March 31. The decision raised concerns locally in Lincoln County, as many community members had questions of what students, who rely on schools for two meals

per day, would do during the closure. One of those concerned citizens is local business owner Dan Clanton, who decided to donate his time and resources into making sure kids aren’t going hungry. Via a Facebook live video, Clanton addressed COVID-19 concerns and stated that it has caused the governor to make some drastic moves to help protect the spread of this virus, including the school closure.
