A local vacation destination has gone tiny for hopefully some big business this summer. The Sheltered Nook at Tillamook Bay resort near Bay City has five tiny homes available for rental, with plans to add a sixth in several months.

By Brad Mosher bmosher@countrymedia.net Dee Harguth and her husband Mark are building a village. It is not a small village, but a tiny one. Sheltered Nook has five tiny homes on their small resort near Kilchis Point Reserve, with plans to add one more next winter. The sixth will complete the plan to create a small vacation community with each having a specific theme. The last one will be handicapped accessible, she added. All of the 380 square foot tiny homes can sleep six and have individual décor. One has a bird motif for visitors interested in wildlife viewing or bird watching. There is one with a beachcomber and another

with kayaks as a theme. The homes surround a central area with a firepit to encourage a sense of community and are adjacent to an open field where a ninehole disc golf course has been set up “The kitchens are totally stocked for the visitors when they come in so they can cook,” Harguth said Friday as she walked around one of the homes. For the Harguths, the decision to go tiny was a simple one and part of a plan they had for the property just west of Warren Road. “It was the appeal of a tiny house and the appeal of a village-type community that you are not going to find at a hotel or a bed and breakfast. People, we have found, enjoy their own space but they like to be

part of a community also,” she added. The couple has been doing Airbnb for three years before they decided to make the move and establish Sheltered Nook. They had three homes delivered in June, then another in July and the fifth early in August, she explained. Officially, it is considered transient housing by Bay City. “Unfortunately, we are a conditional use permit,” she said. “The rules of Bay City don’t allow residing in a tiny home or an RV. “Tillamook (County) is very tiny friendly. We have got support from everyone who has come out – from inspectors, to planning commission, the city council. Everyone has been very

Something devilish may be coming to Nehalem Elementary School this school year. “The Satanic Temple - Portland has proposed to establish an after-school club,” read a letter from Paul Erlebach, Neah-KahNie School District superintendent. He added in an interview, “The district has to be neutral with anything dealing with religious issues with schools.” “After School Satan” is structured as a monthly after-school club where students, with parental permission, participate in a literature lesson, creative learning activities, science lesson, puzzle solving and art project, while being provided a healthy snack, according to a proposal submitted by Finn Rezz, chapter head for The Satanic Temple (TST), Portland chapter. “We have been looking forward to this for a little while,” Rezz said. He added, “We are Satanists. We are non-theistic, so we don’t believe in an actual Satan or actual God, but we have core beliefs and values.” He added the
