Neskowin, accessible only by a single bridge, will have a second entry built to allow residents and visitors to escape in the event of an emergency. “This is several years in the making,” said Liane Welch, director of Tillamook County Public Works. The new bridge, currently titled the Walton Bridge, will cross both Hawk Creek and Butte Creek result in around 1,100 feet of new road that will be an extension of Hawk
Street. According to Welch, 1,100 feet of new road will result from the project, extending from Hawk Street. The road will cross both Hawk Creek and Butte Creek, along with the creation of a new bridge, currently titled Walton Bridge. The new access point will be located on the northernmost end of the Neskowin State Beach Wayside, not impacting parking, but transforming the current exit into a 14 foot oneway lane with turnouts. “This is a great project for the community,” Welch said,
“It’s a priority for the community to have a second access.” In fact, the project is the Public Works Department’s number one priority. “This is a request from [Senator] Betsy Johnson. She asked all counties in her district to create a list of priorities. It will help gather funding.” Welch said Hawk Creek Bridge, the village’s sole entry point, was closed once in 1985 during flooding, but has since been replaced.

“Tillamook Fire and Tillamook Ambulance responded quickly, and the injured worker was taken via Life Guard Air Ambulance to a hospital in Portland,” Criteser’s letter reads, “The gentleman was conscious, but had serious injuries. Our thoughts are with him and his family in hopes of a full recovery.” While the contractor has been working on repairs to the building and the roof deck, according to Criteser’s letter, Cold Storage 3 has been closed to operations for several weeks. “No TCCA employees are currently working in this area, and we are confident that no safety risks exist for our staff,” the letter reads. The Safety team at TCCA, along with the contractor hired for the repairs, will work closely together to investigate what circumstances may have led to the injury, according to the letter. “We will work diligently to ensure that the contractor has appropriate safety precautions in place before any work resumes at this site.”
