The research agronomist has leadership responsibility for developing, implementing, and reporting outcomes of the agronomy research program at the out-state Hettinger Research Extension Center and at its satellite research plots located in south-west ND.The agronomy program includes a broad scope of applied projects that address factors limiting crop production for the diversity of crops grown in North Dakota, specifically south-west ND. The research agronomist works hands-on in the development, design, and implementation of field research projects, that include research in crop management, crop input evaluation, crop pest management, plant nutrition, cultivar evaluation, cover crops, tillage systems, and crop rotations.The agronomist is expected to write grants to assist in funding the diverse research program. The successful candidate is expected to coordinate and collaborate with other North Dakota State University (NDSU), regional and national project leaders on joint research projects appropriate for the Center; analyze and disseminate information from research programs; participate in outreach efforts; communicate freely with farmers, extension staff, agribusiness representatives, and crop commodity organizations; and supervise multiple staff involved with field research. The agronomist reports to the Center Director. The Hettinger Research Extension Center (HREC)

is one of seven out-state NDSU research extension centers. The HREC is located in Hettinger, ND. Hettinger is a city of approximately 1,200 residents and is located in south-west ND.The HREC conducts research in the field of animal science (cattle and sheep), wildlife and range science, and agronomy. Hettinger is home to West River Health Services – a leader in rural health care in the US, excellent educational and community facilities, and internationally recognized hunting and recreational opportunities.
