Bronze Coast Gallery celebrates 30 years

The Bronze Coast Gallery invites you to join them for the Spring Unveiling Arts Festival and to celebrate the gallery’s 30th anniversary.

Bronze Coast Gallery’s featured artists for this year’s festival are Sharon Amber, Tony Hochstetler, and Margret Short.

Sharon Amber will present a new body of

her highly original and elegantly crafted fine jewelry. This is Sharon’s first festival as a featured artist since closing her own Cannon Beach gallery.

Sharon Amber’s unveiling is Friday, May 5, at 4pm, with light refreshments. The gallery will be open on Friday through 6pm. Join the staff and artists for birthday cake on Sat-

urday, May 6, at 2pm and watch Tony Hochstetler unveil two new bronze works. Tony currently lives in Colorado and is a sculptor of animal and botanical subjects. His work resides in numerous museums, collections, and zoological gardens. Also, on May 6, Margret Short unveils her new series of paintings at 5pm.

Margret often grinds her own pigments to create her oil paints for her still life paintings. This new body of work features her exploration in different blue pigments. The artists’ reception begins with Margret’s unveiling and runs until 7pm, with light refreshments. Since its inception in 1993, the Bronze Coast

Gallery has provided an in-depth knowledge of the bronze casting process and the wonderful sculptures created within that process. A wide variety of sculptures are available, from classic limited-edition bronze to unique and innovative contemporary artwork. The gallery also exhibits unique and exquisite

paintings. The gallery currently represents over 40 artists from the United States and Canada. The gallery is open MondaySaturday from 10am5pm, and Sunday from 11am-5pm.

Jeffrey Hull Gallery offers open house, new prints

Jeffrey Hull started painting in his teens, but focused on watercolor more than 50 years ago and never looked back. His command of painting and love for the Pacific Northwest Coast places viewers of his work right into scenes of sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs draped in coastal mist.

For over 35 years, Jeff and his wife Carol have been offering his paintings of the beautiful coast to both seasoned and brand-new collectors in their spacious second-floor gallery at Sandpiper Square in the heart of downtown Cannon Beach. Looking back fondly, Hull remembers ‘we were just kids’, when he speaks

of opening the tiny 350-square foot space back in 1987. Over time, both the gallery and Jeff’s paintings have grown; he’s added oils to his repertoire; and he also now proudly produces his own highquality reproductions in a beautiful space designed to showcase his work.

For this year’s Spring Unveiling Arts Festival, Jeff is thrilled to be introducing more new originals than ever before, along with two brandnew giclée prints. If you’ve never been to the gallery (or just haven’t been lately), stop by during the festival weekend to enjoy the Hulls’ warm hospitality and see fresh work by this gifted artist.

Not A Whisper

New Exhibition Opening at White Bird Gallery

White Bird Gallery has an exciting line-up of contemporary artists being showcased for Spring Unveiling 2023. The new exhibition includes a dynamic grouping of abstract canvases, an exquisite collection of blown glass sculpture, plus miniature paintings and jewelry created with layers of resin. The artists on display use their connections to the natural world as a point of inspiration in their artworks. Stop by the gallery during the month of May to experience the array of creativity in this new exhibit!

Featured Artists

Christopher Mathie: Mixed Media Paintings

The gallery is featuring a stunning new collection of large-scale mixed media paintings by Washington artist Christopher

Mathie. Well-known for his expressive seascapes, Mathie returns to pure abstraction for this show. His new series concentrates on the powerful emotions that exist in our physical atmosphere. Drawn to the massive wild energy of natural elements like ocean waves and windy skies, Mathie’s abstractions focus on grounding earthly emotions to address the mysterious and unknown. In both his abstractions and coastal landscapes, Mathie’s dynamic canvases explore the balance between sensitivity and unrestraint through the physical act of painting. In his artwork, Mathie celebrates the vitality of all life.

Jeremy Newman

& Allison Ciancibelli: Blown Glass Sculpture

Jeremy Newman &

Allison Ciancibelli are a husband and wife team who collaboratively design and create blown glass sculpture. Their studio is located in an old barn on their small farm in Washington State. The open spaces of agricultural fields or the experience of a night sky bathed in moonlight are the basis for

simple abstract compositions rendered on their glass surfaces. The duo is inspired by observations of their surrounding environment. In their work, subtle moments in time become an expression of seasonal cycles, and respect for the natural rhythms of the land. Jeremy and Allison’s sculp-

tures are meant to remind people of our interconnection with nature and with our collective past. Their elegant glasswork allows the mind to wander and find a sense of calm.

Faryn Davis: Resin Paintings & Jewelry

Faryn Davis grew up in North Carolina, in her youth she spent afternoons on the land where she was raised collecting unusual natural objects like bird nests, feathers,

moss, bugs, twigs and leaves. Today this interest is filtered into thoughtful and poetic artworks that evoke an innate sense of wonder. Faryn creates complex tiny worlds that combine painted scenes with found ephemera such as grass, thorns, lichen and bones that are embedded into layers of resin. Her delicate resin paintings and jewelry pieces are individually painted with tiny brushes and toothpicks, layer after layer. The intricate works are polished into miniature dreamlike landscapes populated by birds, bears, foxes and other woodland creatures. Faryn Davis spent 8 years in the Pacific Northwest before returning to her home state of North Carolina where she is a full-time artist.

Explore Sesame and Lilies and view latest artwork

The Sesame and Lilies Upstairs Art Gallery, located on the second floor of the Cannon Beach Mall, features paintings by Diane Speakman and her daughter, Rachel Speakman. Both artists work in oil on canvas and hardboard. Diane specializes in land-

scapes, still-lives, and animal portraits. While their work often overlaps, Rachel specializes in animal forms, birds being her main focus. The use of a moderate palette to render the soft hues of the northwest coast gives Diane’s work an impressionistic feel, which mixes seam-

lessly with the curated spaces of Sesame and Lilies. Her interest in the works of the old masters, impressionism, and plein-air painting drive her stylistic choices. Her new works include seascapes of the Oregon and Maine coasts, still-lives, and animal portraits. Rachel’s work,

on the other hand, reflects the influence of a younger generation of artists. She employs her own brand of stylized realism in her animal paintings (and sculpture) that takes an edgier approach in both form and color. She is a graduate of the School of the Art Insti-

tute of Chicago. You can view more of her work online at rachelspeakman.com and more of Diane’s work at sesameandlilies.com. They will be opening their Gearhart Gallery soon. You can learn more at speakmanstudios. com.
