Frost Fire Summer Theatre is back on stage!
By Linda Timian Republican Writer The 37th Annual Frost Fire Summer Theatre is back on stage this year with “The Marvelous Wonderettes!” to entertain you with songs and nostalgia. The musical comedy by Roger Bean is packed with jukebox hits from the 1950s and 1960s, including “Lollipop”, “Dream Lover”, “Stupid Cupid”, “Lipstick on Your Collar”, “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me”, “It’s My Party”, and “It’s in His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)”. Bean also wrote “Route 66” which was performed at Frost Fire in 2018 and “Life Could Be a Dream” which was the production in 2019. In “The Marvelous Wonderettes!” Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy are four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, the girls serenade us with classic hits. When called upon to perform at their senior prom as a last minute replacement, the girls rally together to entertain their classmates in four-part harmony. In Act II, the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. We learn about the highs and lows the girls have experienced in the past decade and are charmed to find that no matter what life throws their way, they will conquer it together. “It is a wonderful stroll down memory lane that features some of the most popular female vocalist hits of the 1950’s and 1960’s,” said Assistant Director David Paukert. “It is a funny and charming show that is pure entertainment from beginning to end!” Amy Jo Paukert is this year’s Director. The cast members are Katie Germain, Kenzie Henderson, Gina Uhlir, and Misti Koop. Amy Jo Paukert, Jeff Anvinson and Spencer Black make up the pit orchestra. Others involved with the show include Autumn Horton (Technician), Charity Stegman (Stage Manager), Carol Clark (Scenic artist), Pete & Pat Danielson (Set Construction), and Mare Thompson Hepper (Costumes). Rehearsals began May 24th in
Grand Forks, and the show will be mounted on the Frost Fire stage the two weekends prior to opening. It’s an ambitious schedule, but the Paukert’s have 30 years of experience with the Frost Fire Summer Theater program to draw upon. There will be 20 performances in all beginning Saturday, June 26 through Sunday, August 1st. Show time is at 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays June 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. There will be matinees at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays June 27, July 4, 11, 18, 25, and August 1, and on Wednesdays June 30, July 7, 14, 21, and 28. There will also be Saturday matinees at 2:00 on July 17, 24, and 31. A wonderful dinner buffet at the Frost Fire Lodge will open two hours prior to each performance. At the July 4th 2:00 p.m. matinee, Frost Fire will acknowledge the dedicated veterans and active military in the audience. They will receive a 20% discount on their tickets and be officially recognized for their service at the beginning of the show. Don’t miss “50’s & 60’s Dress-Up Night” at the 6:00 shows on July 17, 24, and 31! “We thought it would be fun to invite members of our audience to join the cast to dress-up in their favorite 50’s or 60’s outfits,” said David Paukert. “All those in the audience who participate will receive a fun memorabilia souvenir from the cast.” Mask-wearing and social distancing are encouraged though not required. Seating will start at 50 percent capacity with staggered/ spaced seating to allow for distancing. Policies and procedures will be evaluated and adapted on a regular basis to determine what is safe for the audience, performers, and staff. ered “tame” but is North Dakota’s only “white water river”. Current water levels and conditions during the season can be obtained from the North Dakota Park Service. Tee off at the picturesque Walhalla Country Club, a scenic 9-hole grass golf course located in the beautiful Pembina Hills. The course is complete with club house, driving and pull carts are available for rent, two decks, screened-inporch, and restaurant and lounge. Encore! Arts Camp set for Aug. 2-6 at Frost Fire By Linda Timian Republican Writer Frost Fire will also be hosting “Encore! Arts Camp,” a day camp for students going into grades 3 – 12. It will be held Monday – Friday, August 2-6, from 9:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. each day. Campers will be divided into two groups: grades 3-6 and 7-12. Each group will have the opportunity to participate in both visual arts and performing arts activities. “One of our philosophies at Frost Fire is to reach out to our rural communities and provide opportunities,” said David Paukert, “and one of them is the arts. It’s a part of Frost Fire and the Pembina Gorge’s mission to create and provide these sorts of opportunities.” Campers will explore visual arts concepts in a variety of media, including drawing, painting, pottery and more. Instructors are Langdon Area Schools art instructor Mindi Lill, and David Paukert, who is a former Larimore High School art instructor. Students enrolled in the per-
forming arts classes will be studying creative dramatics, movement, improvisation, and vocal music. Instructors are Misti Koop, Craig Petersen, and his wife, Kristin Larson. Petersen is currently performing professionally in Des Moines, Iowa. Larson is professor and chair of the theater arts department at Grand View University in Des Moines. The week will wrap up with an Art Show and performance, showcasing examples of the different things the kids worked on during the week. The full camp fee (including snacks and a t-shirt) is $130.00, and partial scholarships are available by application. Transportation will be available to students from Walhalla, Langdon, Cavalier, Drayton, St. Thomas, Grafton, Minto, Park River, Edinburg and Neche at a cost of $30.00 per child and $10.00 for each additional child per family. Outdoor activities abound at Pembina Gorge and Frost Fire Park

If you are looking for outdoor activities to do in the scenic Rendezvous Region, the Pembina Gorge and Frost Fire Park are the setting for you. The Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area offers over 30 acres of trails to enjoy horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and offhighway vehicles (OHV). Two trail maps can be found online at www. parkrec.nd.gov/pembina-gorgestate-recreation-area. One map is for mountain bikers, hikers, and horseback riders only and is called the Non-Motorized Trail Map. The other map is for all users including OHVs and is called the Motorized Multi-Use Trail Map. The trailhead is located 1 mile north, 1 mile west, and ¼ mile north of the beautiful Walhalla Country Club. Normally, kayaking on the Pembina River and kayak rentals are available from the PGSRA, but those may be off the table this summer at the Gorge. “The river levels are currently well below kayaking levels, and we need significant rain for us to have a chance to rent kayaks this year,” said Park Manager Jarod Matzke. The Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area is a one-of-a-kind riding experience for equestrians. Horses can go on any of the trails in the Gorge, but remember only the Lady Slipper trail is restricted to non-motorized users. Riders will need to purchase a horse pass for each horse. Daily passes are $6, and annual passes are $30. Permits are available for purchase online or in the PGSRA office now located in
the Forest Service building at 101 5th Street in Walhalla. The money generated from these fees goes towards maintaining the horse trails. If you are bringing horses into North Dakota, information on health certificates and tests can be found on the North Dakota Department of Agriculture’s website, https://www. nd.gov/ndda/, under Animal Import

In addition, riders and passengers under 18 must wear a DOT approved helmet, 16 and over must have a valid driver’s license, ages 12-15 must have an OHV safety certificate, and ages 11 and younger cannot operate OHVs. There are obstacles on them, but you can go around the obstacles. Go down it as a beginning rider. There are a limited number of adult and child mountain bikes available to rent at the Lodge. Tour de Rendezvous set for June 26 By Jared Entzi Republican Writer The Tour de Rendezvous Bike race will be held on June 26th at 10:00 a.m. The race will begin and end in Langdon at Boyd Block, where a 60 and 32 mile route have been organized. The cost to participate is $20 for adults and $10 for children 15 and under. Participants gather from all around the state, Minnesota, and in the past-Canada. All participants will be required to sign a waiver when they register for the event. The top three riders for each route/gender will be acknowledged. Food and drinks will be served at the finish line, with the addition of water, granola bars, and bananas along the route. This ride started in 2017 as a way to bring visitors to the area that enjoy outdoor activities and
to introduce them to the Rendezvous Region. This ride has been a success and grown every year with the exception of last with COVID-19. “Road cycling is a great activity in our area when planting or harvesting is not active as we have many paved roads with little traffic. I encourage people who have not cycled on the open highways to try it. It’s a great workout while being surrounded by green fields and the sounds of nature,” Nathan Smith, organizer, said. North Dakota’s homesteading spirit is evident at Icelandic State Park, located on the shores of Lake Renwick. Established in 1964, this 912-acre park allows visitors to learn about the state’s early settlement and provides an array of recreational opportunities. Boating, swimming and fishing are a few favorite summer activities while snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are popular during the winter. Picnic areas enable visitors to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the shade of old oak trees. Visitors can walk through the Pioneer Heritage Center that houses exhibits and hosts programing that highlights North Dakota’s homesteading years. Visitors can also spend time exploring the trail system in North Dakota’s first dedicated state nature preserve, Gunlogson Nature Preserve. The 200acre natural wooded area along the Tongue River is a sanctuary for plants, birds and wildlife. More than a dozen rare species exist in the preserve, ranging from Watermeal to Bishop’s Cap. Cavalier County Museum at Dresden offers glimpse of the past with much to see In the center of Cavalier County on roads less traveled, lies one of the county’s greatest treasures. The Cavalier County museum in Dresden is home to many of the county’s treasures from the past. In one of the museum’s seven buildings, you are sure to find something that ties all of us to our farm roots. In our original museum building, the Holy Trinity stone church, you will find many pictures from area county towns. The church has many items in the display cases that show a simpler time, musical instruments, wedding dresses, dolls, carriages, and many religious items. The Memorial building houses the Peterson log cabin, a cook car, and many other farm items. In direct contrast to that, the other steel quonset is set up more like a small town. A general store, a jail, and a barber shop are a few of the things in the DeVold building. The DeVold building is also where the events for the museum are held, including the Father’s Day Thresher’s breakfast and the picnic in Dresden in the fall. Other buildings include a one room school, a children’s favorite caboose, and a library. The last building and most overlooked is the Hahn home, which was home to Charles Hahn and his children for over 70 years. The Hahn home, which was originally built in
1920 by siblings Bill and Bertha Sbach, is frequently overlooked because it has remained mostly hidden behind years of trees and over-growth. That is about to change. This spring trees have been removed and dirt has been moved. This has exposed a side of the house that has not been seen from the main museum complex since before the museum came to be. The red-roofed Hahn home is about to get a new neighbor. From only a mile away, we are moving in a barn donated to the museum by Wally Jakoubek from his farm just west of Dresden. Originally built by Leo Jakoubek, Wally’s father, in 1946, this huge barn will make a welcome addition to the museum. While the barn will not be completely original, it will tie in nicely with our museum complex. When the Sbachs built their home in 1920, Dresden was a booming small town, and now their city home is going to be part of our “new” farmyard with the addition of the Jakoubek barn. There is a lot of work to do to get the barn into Dresden yet, and we are hoping that we can move it in by the end of the season this year. Our hope is to have it open for viewing by the Father’s Day breakfast in 2022. It has been said many times that you cannot see everything in the museum in one day. There are too many treasures. We would love to have you visit
the Museum in Dresden and find your own treasures that mean something to you. We encourage all visitors to take pictures and post to our, or your own, Facebook page. We would love to hear about your experiences in Dresden. Dates to remember: • May 30 - Museum opens for the

Northern Lights Arts Council provides summer activities for all Greetings from the Northern Lights Arts Council! We have kicked off our summer events and are so excited to share all the fun with you! The Summer Concert Series is a new event that we have partnered with the Langdon Area Chamber of Commerce to provide free, outdoor, musical entertainment. There are two dates of the three-concert series remaining! Thursday, June 10 we present the “Musical Revue Throwback Night” directed by Emily Braunberger, accompanied by Lisa Schuler, and featuring many friendly faces you recognize from the area. Come out and enjoy your favorite songs from past musicals and musical revues including Take Me To The Movies; Nunsense: the Mega Musical; Lights, Curtain, Broadway; and Once Upon an Ever After! There will be something for everyone from “Greased Lighting” to “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” and many more! The following Thursday, June 17, will conclude the Summer Concert Series with the “Divas Through the Decades”. The Divas are a musical tribute band from Minnesota. Their performance will feature popular female vocalists from the 1940’s through today’s hits, including Tina Turner, The Supremes, Madonna, Beyonce, and Taylor Swift. Their show will not only have great vocals but also fun costumes, choreogra-
phy, comedy, and audience involvement. The concerts will be located at Boyd Block in Langdon and start at 7:00 p.m. The Roxy Theater will be open for concessions (and will also be the backup location in the event of bad weather). Bring a chair, a blanket, bugspray, or whatever you need to get comfortable and enjoy the shows! Free will offerings will be collected at these events. Next on the calendar is Art Day Camp instructed by Mindi Lill. The dates this year are July 14-15 and will be held in the Langdon Elementary art room. All the age groups will learn drawing and watercolor techniques. The times are as follows: grades 2-3 at 10:30-11:30 a.m.; grades 4-6 at 1:00-3:00 p.m. or 3:305:30 p.m.; and grades 7-12 at 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $15, and the registration form and fee are due by June 25. Forms are available on our website and Facebook page, or simply fill out the following information and send to NLAC, PO Box 162, Langdon, ND 58249: Student name, Grade (fall 2021), parent/guardian name, phone number, and if grade 4-6, choose the session time you’d prefer. July 19-24 we will be hosting Missoula Children’s Theater (MCT). This year’s production is “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Students entering grades 1-12 are
welcome to audition! Auditions will be held Monday morning at 10 a.m., and performances are Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Please note the location change this year – both auditions and performances will be held at St. Alphonsus Parish Hall. One other change this year is that MCT will be requiring pre-registration. The Monday morning audition process will not change, but we will just need a list of students participating prior to that time. Currently, MCT is also requiring masks for all participants and audience members. This requirement is subject to change, and we’ll be sure to keep you informed! The movie will be announced closer to the date. If the weather does not cooperate, we will switch the date, so watch our Facebook page for updates. Pembina County Historical Society open A visit to the Pembina County Historical Museum is a must stop place on a day trip around the Rendezvous Region to become immersed in the story of Pembina County’s history of settlement and agriculture. Indoor and outdoor exhibits and displays on the museum grounds concentrate on the history of the state’s oldest county beginning with the fur trade era and continuing through the 1960s. Pembina County was organized on August 12, 1867, with agriculture as its main industry which is exhibited on the museum grounds. Each of the 13 buildings has a unique story to tell. Three of the exhibit buildings feature restored farm machinery including one with tractors of all colors, makes, and ages. Many visitors also enjoy an outdoor stroll through the rows of horse-drawn farm equipment and older tractors along with tillage and harvesting equipment. Five of the buildings on the grounds were built in the 1800s and moved to the museum grounds for preservation and to allow visitors an opportunity to experience the workmanship and style of building from that time period. The McKenzie-McKechnie Granary, St. Anthony’s Church, Paton Homestead Home, Bathgate Depot, and Cavalier Jail/Library are each a step back in history and architecture. Essential to every early farmstead was a barn, and the 1930s Stegman Barn is a well-preserved example of a small family farm barn. The barn area also includes the Steiger Blacksmith Shop along with a working windmill and sawmill. Each restored building was donated to PCHS as an important reminder of the way Pembina County residents have lived, worked, traveled, and worshipped. The main museum building features a research library, art gallery, Icelandic
exhibit area including one of the largest Icelandic language book collections in the country, military displays, and various exhibits featuring the settlement and changes in Pembina County as it has grown and advanced over the years. New items are always being added. Exhibits and stories regarding transportation changes since the first oxcart trails were used to the interstate highway system are being established in the Transportation Building. Important additions and ongoing projects on the Grounds are the military memorial area and the Pembina County Community Orchard. The memorial features pavers honoring Pembina County’s men and women who have served their country in time of peace and in time of war since the Spanish-American War to the present. The orchard covers nearly one acre and contains nearly 60 fruit bearing trees and shrubs. When the trees start to bear fruit, the produce will be donated to the community. There are numerous reasons to visit the museum grounds and for those who geocache, both easy and difficult geocaches are located on the grounds. The grounds are also the perfect place to just go for a walk. The Pembina County Historical Museum is owned and operated by the Pembina CountyHistorical Society and is located 5 1/2 miles west of Cavalier. Memberships can be purchased at the Museum for $10. 122nd Annual Deuce of August Celebration The 122nd Annual Deuce of August Icelandic Celebration will be held in Mountain on July 30th through August 1st. The Deuce of August Celebration is the largest Icelandic event in the United States and is verified by the North Dakota Tourism Department as being the oldest ethnic festival in the state of North Dakota. The historical significance of the event traces back to 1874 when, on August 2nd, church services were held throughout Iceland to commemorate the fact that Iceland was receiving a new constitution from Denmark. The Deuce of August is an annual event hosted by the Icelandic Communities Association (ICA). The seven Icelandic settlement communities that make up the ICA are Gardar, Mountain, Hallson, Vidalin, Fjalla, Thingvalla and Svold. The people from these communities and many other supporters from all over the United States are instrumental in the success of the celebration and ICA activities. The mission of the ICA is to celebrate our Icelandic heritage and culture with the main focus being to promote and organize the annual “Deuce of August” Icelandic Celebration. The three-day event has historically drawn thousands of visitors from all over the U.S., Canada, and Iceland. The event has been attended by the former President of Iceland, five sitting Prime Ministers and multiple ambassadors and cabinet ministers from Iceland. The weekend begins on Friday, July 30th with the opening of the Genealogy Center from 1-4 p.m. in the Mountain Community Center and online with several volunteers to help you

Saturday morning begins with a big parade at 10:30 a.m., and the parade will be broadcast live on KXPO 1340 AM. After the parade, there are many activities for all ages throughout the day. The traditional Vikur Salad Luncheon in the basement of Vikur Church is at 11:00 a.m. Other activities will include the genealogy center from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., a car show and shine, and a sanctioned kids pedal yractor pull. The traditional heritage program begins at 2 p.m. in the Mountain Community Center. There will be a big street dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with a huge fireworks show after dark weather permitting. As you can see, the schedule of events is quite full on Saturday, but it doesn’t end there. Come back to Mountain on Sunday for the ND State Tractor and Pickup Pulling Contest starting at 1 p.m. This event is a big show with lots of high powered tractors and pickups. The Firemen’s 38th Annual Dinner will again be held this weekend. This tradition will be Friday, July 16 and will take place at the Activity Center here in Langdon. Come enjoy some really awesome food and support our firemen at the same time. Contact your favorite firemen for tickets! When you are finished enjoying your meal, come downtown and enjoy the start of the Rendezvous Region Rod Run (RRRR); it’s back on Music Fest weekend and “revving” up for another fun run of a weekend, July 16-17. Friday evening (July 16) you will be treated to muffler rap/loudest pipes, burnouts, and slow drags. The RRRR continues on Saturday, July 17 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Main Street. Trophies will be given out in several different categories. There will also be games for the kids, and every child that participates in all the kid’s events is eligible for the drawing of the BIG Prize. Music Fest in Langdon is on for July 16-17 with a full schedule of activites to enjoy By Linda Timian Republican Writer Music Fest weekend is set for July 16-17, 2021, in Langdon. The weekend line up has many favorite Music Fest activities like the Firemen’s Dinner, Rendezvous Region Rod Run, street fair, kiddie parade, pet contests, pedal pull, and street dance downtown. The weekend will start off with the Firemen’s Dinner fundraiser Friday evening at the Langdon Activity Center. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and food will be served until 8:00 p.m. The menu will be all the favorite dishes we love, roast pork, roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade dressing, and a wide variety of homemade cold salads. To-go boxes can be made up in the kitchen upon request. Tickets can be purchased from any fireman for $15.00 or at the door Friday night. Next up is the Rendezvous Region Rod Run, a classic & custom automotive show that is packed with contests and events the whole family can enjoy! It will get under way on the 600 block of Main Street at 7:00 p.m. Friday night. To enter your car contact Chad Lombardi at 701370-0873. Friday’s tentative agenda will include the muffler rap/loudest pipes, slow drags, burn outs, and flame throwing/neon. The rumbling, smoke, and flames will go on until around 10 p.m. The RRRR continues at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning with planned activities such as the car bash, DB drags stereo sound off, pit crew member competition, 1/64 scale drag race, and tricycle/pedal car races. You won’t want to miss the lineup of mint condition classic cars, muscle cars, and other vehicles on display on Main Street. Planned award categories are Best in Show Stock Classic 1975 - back, Modified Classic 1975 - back, Modified Modern 1979 - up, and Muscle Car 1960-1979. Award categories are open to all years for mid-sized
luxury, motorcycle, truck, snowmobile, tractor, rat rod, and antique & custom bicycle. The Street Fair will be set up on the 800 block of Main Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Businesses will be showcasing Christmas in July. Craft vendors and food trucks like Nacho Bizness and Mexican Munchies will be there. Kids will be delighted with the jump ropes and sidewalk chalk supplied by the Langdon Chamber of Commerce, while supplies last. At 9:45 a.m., go to the intersection of Main Street and 7th Avenue to line up for the Kiddie Parade. No sign up is required. In the past, kids have decorated their bicycles, motorized toy cars, wagons, or dressed up in costumes. The parade route will be on Main Street from 7th Avenue up to Boyd Block on 8th Avenue. Parents may walk with their kids. United Communications is giving all participants a goodie bag. While you’re at Boyd Block, stay for the Cutest and Most Talented Pet Contest to be held on stage. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. The contest is open to any pet, not necessarily a dog or cat. If your pet has a talent, show it off! Langdon Hardware is donating the prizes for the awards. Bill and Peggy Davis from Rough Rider Pedal Pulls will be coordinating a pull-on Saturday. A Pedal Pull is a competition for kids ages 4-12 where each child propels a kids’ pedal tractor pulling a weighted sled. The event will be state sanctioned, so first place winners of each age level are eligible to compete at the state competition, and those winners can go on to nationals. Kids who want to enter can register on Saturday morning starting at 11:00 a.m., and they do not need to bring any equipment. Tractors and sleds are built to specs and provided for the competitors, wiped clean between each user. It will help to print and fill out the Pedal Pull Registration form posted on the Langdon Area Chamber of Commerce
Facebook page ahead of time and bring to registration. Boys and girls compete together, and there are no entry fees. FM Bank is sponsoring the awards for all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age level. Check out the Rough Rider Pedal Pulls Facebook page for all the rules of competition. The Chamber is partnering with the Cavalier County Public Health District to provide security, ID scanning, and wrist-banding at two law enforcement kiosks. There is no cost to get your wrist band, and it will signify that you are of age to purchase alcohol on Saturday evening. The Chamber and Public Health have been coordinating together for several years to provide a safe environment for the festivities and street dance, including clear cups for the bars and prohibiting outside alcohol. Saturday night will come alive when “Hard Times” takes to the Boyd Block stage at 8:30 p.m. They will keep the streets rocking until 1:00 a.m. The concert and street

dance is FREE and open to the public. Having “Hard Times” on stage will almost be like “old times!” “We’re looking forward to playing at Music Fest again,” said band member Jake Kulland. “It’s been a couple years.” “Hard Times” is a favorite local band with Kulland on bass guitar, Patrick Hoffarth on drums, Ted Delfs on lead guitar, and Dennis Metzger on rhythm guitar. “Hard Times” plays a wide variety of rock and country tunes, old standards to new hits - everything from the Everly Brothers and Waylon & Willie to AC/DC to Bryan Adams and Chris Stapleton. The band has been going strong since 1982 when original members Dennis Metzger, Bob Tapson, Tim Cleary, and Roger Hill formed the group. Pembina County Fair set for July 8-10 By Kristi Mostoller Republican Writer When making your summer plans, be sure to include the Pembina County Fair, July 8-10. A short venture to Hamilton, ND, will be worth the trip for all ages. Not only is it full family fun, but it’s free to enter. Wristbands for rides will be for sale along with side games and food vendors. Evening events will also have a fee (4 & under free, 5-11 $10.00, 12 & over $15.00). Growing up, the Pembina County Fair was a special trip to ride “The Zipper”. It was the ride all the kids were excitedly scared to take on- sitting in the 2 person cages flipping and spinning till your eyes go sideways. Mighty Thomas Carnival rides will be coming with The Zipper and more. Carnival rides will be running 5:00-10:00 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. The commercial and fine arts building will be open for viewing throughout the weekend as well. Scott Hartje has been on the board for six years but has been involved in the Pembina County Fair since he was a kid in 4-H. For 4-H members the fair isn’t just about the rides and food, but it’s to let their ag abilities shine. What kid wouldn’t want to brag about having best in show livestock? This keeps our young generations educated and thriving for future career paths. Scott said his favorite part of the fair is that it’s a great summer event, getting together with friends and family. The fair has been a tradition for Scott and
his family along with many families since it started 128 years ago. To start the weekend, on Thursday, July 8th “Ag Day” is open to the public. Ag Day includes a Farmers Market, Tractor Parade, and the 7:00 p.m. rodeo, horse racing and barrel racing. Education for grain bin safety will also be available; we’ve lost many good farmers to grain bin accidents, and prevention is never a waste of time. Nothing says country like ending the day with a movie in the livestock barn at 9:30 p.m. Bring your blankets and enjoy! Come Friday for the pie sale and stay for these fun events. Friday, July 9th is Military/Law Enforcement Day where, with ID, military/law enforcement will get free entry into the Loony Lutherans, horse racing, and barrel racing at 7:00 p.m. That same day a local military band will be on the free stage at 5:00 p.m. Throughout the day there will be 4-H activities including showmanship round robin and a grill challenge. YUM! Saturday, July 10th is the day you won’t want to miss. Kids day will have all kinds of activities from petal pulls to zucchini car races. Bring your littles and try out for Little Miss Pembina County or come and get some tasty treats at the bake sale. There will be options for all kinds and age groups. Finishing the event strong, the band Confederate Railroad will take the stage at 7:00 p.m. with a big firework show at 10:00 p.m. to wrap up 2021 Pembina County Fair- a tradition for all to enjoy and has so much to offer.

Off the Charts coming to Cavalier

Off the Charts will be coming to the Cavalier City Park ravine, in the heart of Cavalier. Off The Charts is a worship music festival which offers exceptional music with positive messages at an extremely affordable price- FREE! The goal of the event is to provide folks with a positive quality concert experience that is typically not found in smaller towns. The OTC music festival was born out of a vision from Tiffany DeMars, local youth leader. The first event was held in 2012 and has grown ever since. August 21st, 2021, is the main festival day. There will be inflatable games open from noon to 6 p.m. and three bands performing: Stars
Go Dim, Austin French, and The Afters. August 22nd will be Community Worship starting at 10:00 a.m. Worship music will be by Austin French. Everyone is welcome; coffee and donuts will be provided. Additionally, Thompson’s Cafe, Mexican Munchies, Korn Krib, and various other vendors will be serving quality food. Camping spots will be provided for tents at the city park on a first come, first serve basis, with additional camping available at the Cavalier Evangelical Free Church – just west of town.
