pproximately 600 p eople showed up at the annual Fall Festival weekend in Ne w Eng land’s St. Mar y’s C atholic Church and Dakota Womens C orrec tions Rehabilitation C enter. That was a go o d turnout b ecaus e of other e vents in the area drawing p eople away. According to Father Gar y B enz, more than 280 went to the meal on Saturday and slig htly more than that on Sunday. “ The y said is was just a little down f rom last year. One problem was there was a numb er of other e vents... Nearby, in Dickins on, the parish had its G erman Nig ht dinner the same nig ht as Saturday. We als o had a wedding here in Ne w Eng land,” he said. “We were pleas ed that it was not to o much of f f rom last year,” he added. this year.” The p eople really like home-co oked meals, Fr. B enz added. “ That is always a hig hlig ht at the Fall Festival.” He als o prais ed the men w ho were making hamburgers in the g ymnasium that were for sale. “ The guys make the b est burgers. Thos e are always a hit. There was always a long line of p eople for the burgers. That grill the y have just makes them rig ht,” he added with a chuck le. The kids games were a success and s o was the auc tion and s ome of the other ac tivities over the two-day festival, B enz added. Fr. B enz said he was sur pris ed at s ome the outcomes f rom the auc tion, including the fac t that the winning bid for an Italian dinner for six co oked by him was more than $800. “He (Al S cho ch) must have done a go o d job auc tioneering,” he added with a chuck le.
