he dirt has been raked; the stalls have been cleaned. Now the pressure is on. As the city of Bowman prepared to host its 27th North Dakota High School Rodeo Finals — a time of year looked forward to by families and contestants around the state — the student athletes have trained for their moment in the spotlight. They’re ready to keep their eye on the prize and do their best. This year’s rodeo will pack plenty of activity into the weekend, with events beginning Thursday and continuing through Sunday. Each year since the rodeo was moved to the Bowman County Fairgrounds, the community lights up with added activity not just in the arena. That activity benefits local retailers, hotels, restaurants and other vendors. For that reason, hundreds of volunteers spend their time to ensure each year’s rodeo is a suc-
cess and the community is ready to support the young students. Hundreds from around the state flock to Bowman each June for the state finals; it’s undoubtedly one of the year’s largest events. High school rodeo contestants that make it to the state finals compete in two preliminary rounds, Friday and Saturday, trying to qualify for the finals held on Sunday afternoon. The top four competitors at the state level then become qualified for the National High School Rodeo Finals in July. Eyes will also be on the three contestants hoping to become this year’s high school rodeo queen. In addition to all of the rodeo action, vendors, concessions, Cowboy Church and entertainment are all available throughout rodeo weekend in Bowman. (By Bryce Martin | Bowman County Pioneer Editor)

Community activities: I am involved in 4H and FFA. This month our 4H group planted flowers outside of the school. Other hobbies: I enjoy reading and running; I find both very relaxing.
Future plans: I plan on going into the Coast Guard Academy then studying to become a lawyer or engineer in the Coast Guard. Why do you want to be Miss NDHSRA? Being Miss NDHSRA is important to me because I believe in showing support and advertising the sport of rodeo. I also want to inspire youngsters to be a part of rodeo and maybe even one day try out for the queen position.
