Home & Garden Show & 2026 Bee Days

Cosponsored by Tillamook County Solid Waste

With spring break in the rearview mirror and summer on the horizon, it’s time to mark your calendars for the Tillamook Headlight Herald’s 37th annual Home and Garden Show on April 25 and 26, at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds.

This year’s show, again cosponsored by Tillamook County Solid Waste, will feature the crowd favorite Bee Days from the Tillamook Beekeeper’s Association, presentations from representatives of the Tillamook Fire District and Bay City Fire Department on their entities’ proposed mergers and of course, the Kiwanis Scholarship raffle, and vendors offering everything needed to prepare your home and garden for the warmer months.

The show will kick off on Saturday the 25th, with a full day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and free admission, before a shorter day on Sunday, with doors open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monkey Business 101 and Kilchis River Farms will be

offering a wide assortment of plants to get your garden going, both ornamental and fruit-bearing.

Monkey Business is planning tables with plants for $4 and $5 and will be focusing on colorful plants to help with landscaping, and berries.

The nursery’s new supplier has more than 160 varieties of rhododendron, so be sure to check which are available up at the show, and check for the new purple raspberries, in addition to the tried and true yellow and red varieties. Loganberries, marionberries, boysenberries, blueberries, strawberries, including the hard-to-find Hood variant, grapes, and apple, plum and, of course monkey puzzle trees will all also be available.

Kilchis farms will have a wide variety of perennial and ornamental plants on offer, all of which have been selected to thrive on the Oregon coast. From lithodora, zonal geraniums and ice plants, to tomatoes, pampas grass and wood roses, the farm’s booth will have something for every gardener.

The Beekeepers will be holding a fundraising raffle,

with the grand prize being a hand-crafted, hand-painted beehive featuring patriotic decorations in celebration of the country’s 250th birthday, and second prize a $100 gift certificate to the TCCA Farm Store, with tickets available for $5 each, or five for $20.

Tillamook Kiwanis Club, celebrating its centennial anniversary, will also be holding its annual scholarship raffle fundraiser.

The show will feature local favorites, new vendors and political booths for the upcoming primary elections. 2024 finalist for Bird Photographer of the Year, Oregon fine art photographer TR Russell returns to the show this year, with new, large-format canvas and metal prints depicting immersive views of forests, coastlines and mountains, as well as individual greeting cards and themed card sets.

Pacific Restaurant and Fryer & Ice will have food and refreshments available, so come hungry and be ready for a fun time at the fairgrounds.

ment for the warmer weather to come. At this year’s Home & Garden Show, we plan to highlight big changes to our community’s waste and recycling systems, ultimately planting seeds of sustainability for the coming seasons.

Throughout the Home & Garden Show, the

Tillamook County Master Recyclers will be on hand to help:

• advise how you can develop at-home composing systems for your garden needs,

• quiz you on your knowledge of what can and cannot be recycled at our facilities located throughout

the county,

• explain how plastic pollution in the ocean turns into microplastics on the beach, and how you can help tackle this problem before it poses a health risk to beachgoers or an economic backlash to our local economy,

• create upcycled items

to enhance and beautify your at home garden ecosystem,

• learn about the forthcoming Tillamook County Master Recyclers Classes,

• help you with your next painting job with some locally recycled latex paint, and

• inform you of how to dispose of your old/ unwanted pesticides and fertilizers.

Oregon’s Recycling Modernization Act (RMA) has been implemented across the state for almost one year now. The new law aims to “make recycling easier for the public to use, expand access to recycling services, upgrade the facilities that sort recyclables, and create environmental

benefits while reducing social and environmental harms, such as plastic pollution. Producers and manufacturers of packaged items, paper products and food serviceware will pay for many of these necessary improvements and help ensure recycling is successful in Oregon (DEQ).” Tillamook County residents can now recycle #5 plastics and aseptic cartons at the Tillamook, Pacific City, and Manzanita transfer stations, with additional materials being added later this year. Don’t leaf Tillamook County a mess! Be sure to stop by the Tillamook County Solid Waste & Recycling booth, at the 2026 Home and Garden Show, April 25-26.

Saving the honey bee is Tillamook Beekeepers Association’s main goal. The annual Bee Days event was created to inform the public about threats facing bees and techniques we all can implement to help ensure their survival.

Last year, beekeepers across the United States suffered the worst loss in recorded history. An estimated 1.7 million colonies of bees died in the first few weeks of 2025.

In Tillamook, 60% of hives were lost. Industry experts including the OSU Bee Laboratory, Project Apis m., the American

American Legion Post 47

Booth 13 - Supporting Veterans and Local Youth For the third year in a row, American Legion Tillamook Post 47 will be at the Home & Garden Show at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds with Booth 13. Sponsored by the very newspaper bringing you this event, the booth gives the community a chance to meet Legion members, learn about current programs, and support the important work Post 47 does year-round. Post 47 operates three separate checking accounts, so every donation goes exactly where it is needed most:

1. General Funds Account

This account keeps the Tillamook Post 47 day-today operations running. At the Home & Garden Show, visitors can support it by purchasing raffle tickets for a beautiful handmade patriotic quilt, a quality fishing pole and reel, and a handmade crocheted blanket.

2. Youth Programs Account

This fund supports the next generation. Donations and sales of custom handmade wooden American flags help pay for:

• Sponsorships for the Oregon State Law

Enforcement Career Camp

• Boys State and Girls State programs

• Support for the local Cub Scout Pack 582

• The brand-new Tillamook Hot Shots 4-H Shooting Sports Club

The 4-H club, now with 18 approved members ages 9–15, started with air rifle and is already preparing to add archery and shotgun as more volunteers become certified. The program teaches firearm safety, responsibility, focus, and teamwork in a safe, supervised setting.

3. Veteran Relief Account

This is the account that directly helps local veter-

ans in need. The main fundraising happens each Memorial Day when Legion members hand out poppies. Last year, these funds made a real difference:

• Paid for home repairs and improvements for a veteran

• Help clear underbrush in front of the only window of a terminally ill veteran so he could see outside during his final days after losing his wife

• Covered vehicle repairs for a homeless veteran

• Assisted a veteran who fell behind on rent

“Every dollar we raise goes straight to helping veterans or giving local

kids positive, characterbuilding opportunities,” said Rick Stelzig, Post 47 member and 4-H Shooting Sports Club coordinator. “We’re proud to be part of the Home & Garden Show again and hope to see many friends and neighbors stop by Booth 57. Come visit us at the show! Stop by to say hello, learn more about our programs, buy a raffle ticket, or pick up a hand-crafted wooden American flag. Every donation and purchase helps keep these important programs strong in Tillamook County. Items featured this year are:

• Handcrafted patriotic quilt made by made by Patty Morrill: $20 a ticket / 200 tickets to be sold / Drawing after all 200 tickets are sold

• Handcrafted crochet blanket / $5 a ticket / 32 tickets to be sold / Drawing after all 32 tickets are sold

• Refurbished fishing rod and reel / $5 a ticket / 32 tickets to be sold / Drawing after all 32 tickets are sold

• Large wooden custommade flag $150.

• Medium wooden custom-made flag $65.
