Devon Solberg Freshman 1st Place - Humorous Solo
The Baker High School speech and drama team competed at the State Class B meet in Ennis Jan. 29-30. The drama team placed second overall, and Devon Solberg led the team with a first place state championship in Humorous Solo. Olivia Mahon placed third in Serious Solo, Anna Espeland and Megan Greiff placed fourth in Serious Duo, Isaac Rost earned third
place in Impromptu. MaKenzy Shipstead placed fifth in MPA, Jaden Miller - fifth in Original Oratory, Taylyn Dukart - eighth in LD Debate, and Taiken Goerndt (MPA) lost in a tie going into finals. The team is coached by head coach Mike Davis. Assistant coaches are Dena Kirschten and Carole Bettenhausen.

Lovec appointed executive director of Baker Chamber of Commerce By Sherry Vogel Jan Lovec began her new job as Baker Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dec. 9, 2015. Jan looks forward to serving the Chamber in this part-time position. She will strive to help unify the businesses on Main Street with the other commercial merchants in the outlying area. The Chamber hosts a variety of events throughout the year including the Fall Festival, Calcutta, Countdown to Christmas, and Crazy Days. This summer, they will also be helping to promote the Montana State High School Rodeo Finals. The Annual Membership Drive is underway. Lovec has been a member of the community for the past 42 years as she and her family moved to Baker in 1974. Soon after, she became employed as the district manager at the Little Beaver Conservation District, a position she held for 15 years. Lovec then served at the Fallon Medical Complex as the dietary manager for the next ten years. She is currently employed for School District #12 as the north route bus driver and is also a substitute driver for the Fallon County Flyer. Jan is married to Mike Lovec. She has two grown children, Mike Menger of Baker, and Stacy Menger Kinsey of Billings. SEE LOVEC, PAGE 2
