Dunn County Herald
For three days, it will not be the Labor Day Weekend. It will be something more important, at least in Dunn County. It will be a wild mixture of music, mud volleyball and Rodeo, with a Lions Fish Fry thrown in for good measure. It will be time for the Dunn County Fair, which opens up Friday with a Fish Fry at 4 p.m. and the Killdeer-Hazen football game at 6 p.m., among other events. Then on Saturday, the 5-kilometer run will start things off at 8 a.m., along with a softball tournament at 10 a.m., Badlands Rodeo at 6 p.m. and a free concert by the Josh Kehr Band at 8 p.m. On Sunday, there will be Mud Volleyball at 10 a.m., Native Dancers at 1 p.m. and the Wild Rides Rodeo at 6 p.m. A golf scramble tourney at Medicine Hole Golf Course Monday at 10 a.m. will close out the fair schedule.
The Josh Kehr Band performs Saturday.
The mud volleyball tournament will start at 10 a.m. Sunday morning. Submitted photo

Staff Report Dunn County has just added something new for local schools - a badge and just in time for the start of school. The Dunn County Sheriffs Office has announced that it has hired its first school resource officer, Dep. Jacob Nikko. Dep. Nikko just recently completed the Law Enforcement Academy in Bismarck. The Minnesota native is 25 years old and a Marine Corps veteran. According to a DCSO spokesman, Nikko is excited to begin his career with the Dunn County Sheriff ’s Office as our newest SRO. The school resource officer program Dep. Jacob Nikko was proposed by Sheriff Gary Kuhn to enhance community relations between the Sheriff ’s Office and the community, specifically for the children. Among the duties for the newest hire will be to provide a daily presence in the schools, school events, and school sports to provide added safety to our teachers, staff, and students. In addition, the SRO will also assist with providing school safety training and presentations in topics such as active shooter threats, drugs, K9, and career day to name a few, the spokesman added. In addition to participating in the first day of school at Killdeer Public School, the agency also combined with the Dickinson Police Department for additional training. The department attended a presentation Aug. 20 on ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) Active Shooter Training at the Killdeer School.
