Dunn County mobile pantry closing down By Bryan Gallegos The Dunn County Herald
The Dunn County Mobile Food Pantry will be making its final run next week because the organization that supplies the food wants communities
to start their own food pantries. The mobile unit is scheduled to make stops in Dunn Center, Twin Buttes, Halliday and Dodge on Wednesday. No referrals or preregistration is required and everyone in
need of food assistance are welcome. But after Wednesday, they can visit the Dunn County Food Pantry in Killdeer for their supplies. Great Plains Food Bank has been provided supplies for the Mobile Food Pan-
try for the past couple of years. It also supplied the Dunn County Food Pantry for the past five years. Officials from Great Plains Food Bank say they want communities to take ownership of their own needs like Killdeer has.
“The Dunn County Food Pantry has greatly expanded,” said Rachel Monge, the regional services manager for Great Plains Food Bank. “We’d like to see other communities do the same thing.” Monge said there has
been some interest shown in Dunn Center and Dodge. Great Plains Food Bank has distributed 15,779 pounds in Dunn County through the mobile food See MOBILE, Page 2

Paul said the public has shown great interest in Legacy Lodge, which will keep residents of Killdeer, Halliday, Dunn Center, Manning and Grassy Butte in their home community as they age. “We are hopeful we will be able to fill it soon,” Paul said. The hailstorm that hit the area in July slammed the new resident
The roof and siding also had to be replaced. The Lodge features 20 apartments, including 10 one-bedroom apartments and 10 two-bedroom apartments. All the units have fully furnished kitchens with stoves, refrigerators and dishwashers, See HOME, Page 8

Although nobody had lived in the facility, carpets had to be replaced after hail broke windows on the west side of the building, leaving glass shards in the flooring. “We could not remove all of the glass, so we had to replace the flooring to be safe,” Paul said.
