Preparing for the new NORMAL The Langdon Area School Board, administration, teachers and support staff have been working diligently in these changing times to plan for education in our community. I am writing this article on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at approximately 8:00 a.m. I feel the need to state the time as things change so quickly. I feel it is also appropriate to say that the content of this article is with the best knowledge and understanding that I have at this moment.

The Langdon Area Schools will start providing and supporting educational services on March 23, 2020. pose of getting internet access for our students. There are two plans for offering education in alternate formats. Those plans have been approved by the school board and are submitted with this article for public viewing and the purpose of clarity. We understand that these plans provide a structure but allow for a great deal of flexibility. Issues are going to arise; I cannot stress enough the importance of communicating with your child’s teacher and then administrator if you have concerns or issues. Our intent is to serve students to the best of our ability within the confines of government mandates. We plan to do our best to ensure that student skills do not regress but also understand that rigor will not be the same and should not create undue stress. All our students and staff have access to k12 email accounts, and they will be used for communication. If your child does not know their email and password, contact your elementary child’s teacher or the office. Parents- we have been sending infor

mation out electronically and have had many emails bounce back as invalid. Please make sure you update these with your building office if you have not been getting correspondence from the school.

Children thrive in routine, so it is my recommendation that working on education tasks be scheduled into their days. There may be specific times where children are asked to check in electronically or possibly in person at the school district buildings as things progress. Unscheduled visits to the school are not allowed and are not acceptable. We have been planning for multiple scenarios that we may have local control over with the understanding that government mandates may change everything. At this point in time, we are more concerned with what we can control within the guidelines provided and will be fluid when the guidelines change.

We will get through these historic times. We must be comfortable with knowing we will do our best in these trying times and sometimes things are out of our control. Please make sure you have conversations with your children concerning the assurance that we keep our community members safe and do what is determined to be best practice. Use this time to spend with your children, and as you find learning opportunities or discussions, take advantage of this time.

From Robert Bubach, Superintendent As of this Thursday morning (March 19, 2020), the governor has not yet made a decision regarding next week. However, with the increase of cases in North Dakota, I find it highly unlikely that we will have regular classes next week. However, I did send out information on Tuesday about the plans for next week. To recap, for next week on Monday morning, we are asking that ONE PERSON from each family come to the school to pick up a homework packet for the next week. Please observe the following requests: 1) Please have the family representative be someone who is feeling "well." 2) Please observe the "social distancing" rule. 3) Please come to the school according to the schedule below. 4) Please do not use this time as a time to socialize. We really want to limit social contact. IF, in the event, school will remain closed for a longer period of time, Munich Public Schools will begin to implement more "online" learning. Some of our teachers are very well set up for this already and are asking their students to begin next week. Some teachers will have to become more inventive in their teaching to accommodate "online" learners. The staff will be here on Monday morning to answer questions or give specific instructions about the homework packet. After which, the staff will be brainstorming to continue to give instruction beyond next week, in the event that is necessary. You

will also be asked to fill out a paper survey for each family regarding: 1) Do you have a computer at home; 2) Do you have internet access at home; 3) Do you have a printer at home; 4) Do you have a scanner at home; 5) What is the e-mail address where assignments can be sent. If you do not have a computer at home, we will be able to help with that. As far as internet access, once we find out who does not have that capability, we may be able to help you out with that, also. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school (ext. 203). My cell phone is (701)308-0095.

Although this is the request, if you cannot come in at the following times, please contact the school. Also, if you truly feel uncomfortable coming in, please call the school. Schedule: Families (parents) whose last name begins with A-F, please come to the school between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m.

Families whose last name begins with G to those families whose last name begins with Ha (Haus) between 9:30-10:00 a.m.

Families whose last name begins with He (Hettwer) to those families whose last name begins with Mi (Mitzel) from 10:00-10:30 a.m.

Families whose last name begins with Mo (Morstad) to those families whose last name begins with P(Perry) from 10:30-11:00 a.m.

Finally from 11:00-11:30 a.m., those families whose last name begins with S-Z.
