Karl & Karen Jernstedt
Karl and Karen Jernstedt have been in Coos County since 1990. Both are very active with the Coos County Fair. Dr. Karl has volunteered for the livestock and horse check-in since 1990, when he was asked by Dr. Phil Morgan. Yes, he is the one that wears the big hat and asks the young Stockman questions about the Vaccinating and deworming of their projects. Karen is the Beef Leader in the Twin Oaks 4-H Club
and the curator of the ever popular Coos County Fair Birthing Barn, which started in 2007. Karen has facilitated the birthing of calves, lambs, goats, ducks and chickens, all being hatched or born during the fair week. The birthing barn is a star attraction for young and old alike. The animals featured in the Birthing Barn are all on loan and return to their homes after fair. The goal of the Birthing Barn is to bring people closer to Agriculture. Karen is constantly striving to get the local producers to participate with displays and/or sit back in the lazy boy recliner, to participate as a “Ask the Farmer.” Karl & Karen reside near Broadbent on a small farm. Bella Cagley
Bella Cagley is the daughter of Raymond and Candi Cagley and granddaughter of Ben and Vicki Munroe. Bella has an identical twin sister Amythist and younger brother Treyven. She was raised in North Bend and now resides in Coos Bay where she is currently in the 10th
grade at Marshfield High School. Bella is part of the leadership team at Marshfield High School and an active member of the Coos County Rangers 4-H club. Bella has participated in horse 4-H for six years and plans to continue until she graduates from high school. Bella is very dedicated to horse 4-H, because she feels that 4-H teaches responsibility, respect, and social skills to even
the shyest of kids. Bella plans to attend college to study veterinary medicine with a specialty in equine dentistry. After college she plans to return to Coos County, to open her own veterinary office. Bella would like to stay an active part of the local 4-H program and continue to support up and coming 4-H youth in our county.
fields flood each year, but then need irrigating for the second and third hay crops. Dr. Karl owns and operates the Morgan Veterinary Hospital in Coos Bay and cares for all species of animals. They run approximately 40 mixed breed cow calf pairs and about 50 head of Hampshire Sheep. Yes, there are more pastures leased elsewhere, since this many animals require proper field rotation! Both Karl and Karen participated in 4H and FFA in their youth. Karl started in the Canby area and later in the Spokane area, he earned the National Farmer Degree in FFA. He also competed at the National Level with Livestock Judging. Karen was raised in Winston on a sheep farm and at one point, held the Charter
President with Douglas FFA. The two met at Linn-Benton Community College on the livestock judging team. Their three children; Erin, Ben and Clark, have all participated in 4-H and FFA. The family actually moved from Coos Bay to Myrtle Point, so the family could be involved in the FFA program. Participating and volunteering with agriculture based youth programs is a family affair. During the course of the year, the Jernstedts enjoy helping with the various livestock committees, the fair board and FFA programs. All of these efforts always lead up to the grand finale, which is the Coos County Fair.
2021 Jr Princess
Lily Mullins Lily Mullins is the 13 year old daughter of Joshua and Melanie Mullins of North Bend. Lily has a younger sister, Elaina and a new baby brother named Jacob. She is currently a part of the Bay Area Christian Homeschool co-op and is in the 8th grade. Lily loves participating in sports especially track and field. She is very artistic
and enjoys making custom bling for her horses as well as drawing and music. This is Lily’s 4th year in equine 4-H. She is an active member of the Coos County Ranger 4-H group and is currently holding the office of President. She has a 6 year old Mustang/Quarter horse cross named Season
that she loves to do SWOHA shows and 4H events with. Lily is very excited for this opportunity and looks forward to what the future will hold.

The committee has presented members with more than $109,500 in scholarships since the scholarship portion of the program was started. More than 100 members have benefitted from the generosity of the program supporters. The cakes donated to the auction support the scholarship program. The arena signs help support the auction organization. Arena signs may be purchased yearly for $75. Contact Maria Padgett at 541-404-2619. There were 6 cakes and pies last year and they raised a total of $9950. Additionally, there was a donation from ALL WEST/ SELECT SIRES of product that sold for $1000.
