he United States recently became the number one oil producer in the world and it’s largely in part because of the Bakken oil field. In 2018, North Dakota produced an average 1,276,572 barrels of oil every single day, making it the number 2 producing state in the entire nation, according to information from the North Dakota

or farmers, the growing season this summer has been unusually rainy, causing difficulty in the managing and planting of their crops. As August approaches, National Weather Service meteorologist Ken Simosko said that he expects the downpour trend to continue in southwest North Dakota. “In August, your region experiences an accumulative 1.04 inches of precipitation for the month,” he said. “Right now the outlook map indicates a slight chance for above average

hamber of commerce representatives from all over North Dakota’s southwest region gathered in Bowman this week for a Vision West conference. The conference provided a platform for regional community leaders to gather and discuss broad topics, which are affecting the whole region. One local attendee, NDSU Extension Program Coordinator Andrea Bowman, said that one major
topic of discussion was focused on the upcoming U.S and ND Census. “In the morning we heard from Kevin Iverson, the manager of the North Dakota Census Office,” said Bowman. “He talked about the upcoming census and the importance of getting an accurate count.” Many communities in the region are gearing up for the census. Because the count only happens once every 10 years, counties are looking for trusted temporary workers to facilitate the count.
