owman County Commissioners recently approved a new solar ordinance for Bowman County. Bowman County Tax Director Dean Pearson said that the new ordinance was the first of its kind. “This is the first solar ordinance in Bowman County,” said Pearson. “Before, there wasn’t any kind of guidance for either residents or anybody doing business within the county. The purpose of the ordinance is to provide guidance for rules and regulations so it treats everybody fairly in the future.” Pearson continued to explain that the commissioners voted on the additional legislation because a company was potentially tak-

Bulldogs coaches presented Coach of the Year awards BY FRANK TURNER Bowman County Pioneer

arlier this month, Bowman Bulldogs head coach Jonathan Jahner and assistant coach Erick Egan were both recently recognized at the coaches convention and each presented a Coach of the Year award for their involvement in track and field. Specifically, both coaches were presented state level awards. Jonathan Jahner was presented the State Coach of the Year award for Class B Boys Track and Field and Egan was presented the Spring Sport Assistant Coach of the Year award. Principal and athletic director Tyler Senn said that both Jahner and Egan were

well deserving of their awards. “I think they were chosen because of the dedication that they have both show to their sport and their athletes throughout the spring,” said Senn. According to Senn, Jahner was elected State Coach of the Year by track coaches throughout the state. Once Jahner was awarded the southwest region award, he was then eligible for the state award. “Mr. Jahner was named Coach of the Year for the both the boys southwest region and girls southwest region for track this past spring,” said Senn. “At that point, his name moved on to the state competition where it

he 2019 Bowman County Fair started off strong on Monday with its first event, the Bowman County 4-H Horse Show. At the show, 4-H kids of all ages got the opportunity to bring a horse from home and show off the animal to judges. According to Bowman County NDSU agent Max Robison, the 4-H kids have

practice general horsemanship and showmanship,” said Robison. During the competition, kids were expected to complete different challenges with their horses. “The kids are given a pattern and the kids have to lead their horse through different gates,” he explained, “they also have to trot up to the judge, set their horse up so it’s standing square, and even answer questions

from the judge.” The Bowman County horse show is a regional event for a lot of surrounding communities and counties. This year a few kids from Slope County attended the event. Robison said that he is working with the Adams County extension agent Hannah Nordby to get more involvement from Adams County for future horse shows. “It’s just one of those 4H » PAGE 3
