Two public hearings will be held later this month to discuss the city’s annexation process for the former airport land west of the city, which is the site of the new industrial park. The Bowman Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. June 14 at the Bowman Regional Public Library for a hearing on the annexation plans put forth by the Bowman County Development Corp. for the airport land. More than 210 acres have been requested to be brought into city limits and to add necessary amendments to the city’s comprehensive plan that would add a

new land use designation. Cheryl Ryan, city zoning administrator, explained Wednesday that the current land use designations for that land do not conform with state requirements. Instead, Ryan said a special planning area designation would need to be added. That would allow for a range of land uses at the site including commercial, industrial, agricultural and residential instead of strictly commercial or industrial. While the ability to create residential zones on the land would exist, it doesn’t mean that it would necessarily occur, according to Teran Doerr, executive direc-

Following a season of personal bests and shattered school records four Bowman County boys wanted to push themselves even further. An extra burst of motivation and dedication to their sport led the 3,200-meter boys relay team — Cole Osendorf, Brayden Miller, Alex Madrigal and Alex Bartholomay — to a second-place finish at the Class B State Tournament last week. It was the final state meet to run for three of the boys, who had already broken multiple school records at the regular season meets. But it was time for one more in Bismarck as the relay team finished their event in 8 minutes, 20.27 seconds, setting yet another school record.

Golf teams finally get ‘decked out’ for season Concerns raised with school board last year met with action By BRYCE MARTIN Pioneer Editor
Photos have been circulating on local social media pages wishing the Bowman County golf team success as they performed at the state tournament. But there’s a story behind the outfits the team was wearing and the professional caddy bags they were totting around.

In the photos the girls stand together, donning colorful, matching tops and coordinating bottoms. Their black caddy bags filled with their clubs and other equipment. Just one year ago, those items were nowhere in sight. That was until several concerned parents took the issue to the Bowman County School Board.

Their efforts clearly proved fruitful. Six varsity girls and six varsity boys were given new golf bags, and the teams received collared golf polos and long-sleeve pullover jackets. All the items were ordered by the school from Dale’s Clothing & Custom Embroidery in Bowman. A parent had asked the school board at a 2015 meeting why the golf teams had been denied the ability to raise funds and accept donations from the community. She questioned board

members why the golf teams also weren’t on the school’s rotation to receive new uniforms. The school’s process in the past was to have the team purchase its uniforms and the school would pay for the cost of having them embroidered. According to Tyler Senn, activities director and high school principal, that was agreed to in a conversation with former golf coach and teacher Don Groll, who was
