houghtful gestures for veterans may come in many forms. For some, these gestures may include giving a free Veterans Day meal or hosting an event honoring fallen soldiers. However for many, supporting and providing benefits for veterans throughout the year is just as important as the small gestures when recognizing veterans’ sacrifices. For the past six months, Veterans Services Officer Keith King has worked at the courthouse to provide both logistical and financial services to veterans. As a Veterans Service Officer, King helps veterans apply for healthcare benefits and navigate the other complex Veterans Administration ( VA) systems. King is a member of the local American Legion and a Navy veteran who decided to start working at the Veterans Service Office after hearing the local county commissioners were expand-

tudents from the Bowman County High School honored America’s veterans this week at the Veterans Day Program in the school

gym. There, over 25 local veterans who spanned all generations and branches of the military received recognition for their years of service and sacrifice. According to High School Principal Tyler Senn, Bowman County School has organized a

Veterans Day Assembly every year for roughly 15 years. “Our communities have a strong tie to military and our veterans,” said Senn. “It’s important that kids understand why they are getting Monday off. It’s not just a day off

of school, it’s to honor the veterans, and we do our small part to teach that and honor the people that we need to honor.” The event opened with the school choir singing the Start Spangled Banner. After the anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, and

musical selection, Senn began the program by thanking all veterans for their service. “Today it is our privilege to say thank you to all our American veterans, especially those here

local Bowman County School drama students channeled their creative energy last weekend and performed the one-act comedy play, “Epic Fail” for the public. While the performance was free, proceeds from the concessions went to support Bowman’s Dollars for Scholars local chapter, a local organization that provides accessible scholarships for students. At the play, underclassmen students sold water and popcorn to raise money for upperclassmen students. According to Dollars for Scholars Co-president Connie Gaebe, the money made from play concessions will benefit the current graduating class. “The organization is for grades 9 through 12,” said Gaebe. “We need the underclassmen to help with these events, but the money is always given out to the

senior, graduating class.” Although the scholarship money goes

to the graduating class, Gaebe said the underclassmen still benefit

from their volunteer work. “We keep record

of the underclassmen’s volunteer hours,” she said. “When the underclassmen become seniors, their volunteer hours are accumulated and counted toward their scholarship applications.” Overall, Gaebe said that Dollars for Scholars was grateful to work with the drama club. “Working with the drama club is a great way to promote the arts while raising money for a good cause,” she said. The play, “Epic Fail,” is a one-act comedy about a group of teenagers who find little successes in failures. Drama Advisor Lyndsey Erickson said that the drama students chose the play themselves. “We had gotten together and read through a few other scripts, but “Epic Fail” was the one that the students overwhelmingly voted for,” said Erickson. After performing in Bowman, the drama club traveled up to Dickinson State University to
