STAFF REPORT April 5 Scrubs Camp inspire local students - Students from the surrounding Scranton and New England communities gathered at the Hettinger Armory this week for a day of health related fun and learning at Hettinger’s fourth Scrubs Camp. For Adams County and its surrounding rural communities, healthcare functions as a backbone, and Scrub’s Camp is just one way to keep the interest in healthcare alive in the youth.   The Scrubs camp, lead by the Center for Rural Health and the Area Health Education (AHEC), was free for any student from the Scranton or Hettinger schools. April 19  Fischer named 2019 Dekalb Outstanding Agricultural Accomplishment - Michaela Fischer of Bowman County High School was recently presented the school's highest agricultural honor, the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored my Monsanto Company. Fischer, the daughter of Marcus and Mary Fischer, received the award for excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience.  Fischer’s significant experiences and accomplishments have included her SAE and Chapter officer for three years, Leadership activities, Parliamentary Procedure, Food Science, Creed speaking, Prepared Public Speaking, Talent, and teaching Farm Safety. Mary Fischer is Michaela’s Agricultural Education instructor and FFA Advisor

he Bowman County Pioneer is hoping to reunite families with some of their photos, if members of the families can stop by the newspaper office. According to Casandra Horn, the office manager at the newspaper there are hundreds of photographs ranging from the 1950s and 60s through to the present-day which are in the office in the files of the Pioneer and The Finder. “Each week, until the photos run out, we will be featuring sets of those photos in the hopes that they will be claimed,” she explained. Among some of the subjects of the photos are: Sports teams & individuals

outhwestern North Dakota was hammered by winds of nearly 70 miles per hour as a storm front moved through the region over the weekend. Hettinger Airport was buffeted by 66 miles per hour wind gusts, a measurement duplicated near Mott and Gladstone. Bowman Airport was hit almost as hard, with gusts up to 61 miles per hour. etween Giving Tuesday and Christmas, pig farmers are encouraged to participate in National Pork Board’s Hams Across America program. It’s the perfect time of year for pig farmers to show their commitment to their community and to pay it forward by donating pork products to someone who

deserves recognition or is in need. JaNel Anderson, AMVC sow farm manager, and Javier Aradillas, AMVC Leadership Development Program employee, accepted the challenge to give a ham this holiday season. The farm team decided to give hams to the Bowman and Scranton emergency services teams. AMVC is ap-

preciative of having great emergency personnel in the local area. During the holidays, it was a great time to support the swine industry and recognize these valuable services in the community. AMVC Management Services, a diversified swine management company, manages NorDak, a breed-to-wean sow

farm in Scranton. AMVC employees in two other states made similar ham donations. The Hams Across America program was created in 2016 as an industry effort to honor the way pig farmers serve their communities yearround.

Myra Rambough Myra Rambough, 69, of Hazen, ND passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Minot, ND. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Mark Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CST on Wednesday, January 8 at Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen. Myra was born on May 5, 1950 in Hettinger, ND to Emma Marie Mable ( Wothe) and Selmer Hanson. She attended school in Hettinger until 1959 when her family moved to Wisconsin. They later returned to Reeder, ND in 1962 and lived there for a time before moving to Scranton, ND where Myra graduated from high school in 1968. Following graduation, Myra attended Dickinson State University for four years, obtaining her teaching degree. On June 29, 1973, Myra married Stanton Rambough in Scranton. The couple lived there until moving to Hazen, where they spent most of their married life. Myra worked for Krause’s SuperValu for many years, doing a little bit of everything. She was employed with

Krause’s until her retirement following her diagnosis with ALS in 2017. Myra had many hobbies and interests. She greatly enjoyed reading, crocheting, cross-stitching, gardening and crafting. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Stan of Hazen; two daughters, Lynn ( Tony) Kaup of Minot and Pamala ( Joe) Romance of Bakersfield, CA; one son, Westly (Stephanie) Rambough of Bismarck, ND; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy (Keith) Pierce of Arizona and Loretta (Bob) Nicklin of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews. Myra was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Corrine; and one infant sister. Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.

he wrestlers were back on the mat after the holiday break this past weekend at the Hettinger Classic. Wrestling began on Friday with pool play matches which continued into Saturday morning. Wrestlers were then bracketed based on their prior matches and the tournament began. CREP Enrollment Open

Landowners in southwestern North Dakota are again able to enroll in the state Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, after the U.S. Department of Agriculture opened a new signup period in early December. In addition, USDA also announced an open signup for the general Conservation Reserve Program, which is open until Feb. 29. The state will contribute more than $4.3 million, which is funded from the Game and Fish Private Land Open To Sportsmen program, and the North Dakota Outdoor Heritage Fund. “We’ve worked a

long time developing these projects with USDA, and working with other partners and stakeholders,” Kading said. “We feel these are good options for landowners to address a resource concern, and also open up some quality habitat for hunters.” Landowners interested in CREP can enroll acres in portions of Adams, Billings, Bowman, Burleigh, Dunn, Emmons, Grant, Golden Valley, Hettinger, McKenzie, Mercer, Morton, Oliver, Sioux, Slope and Stark counties. Over these 70 plus years more than 168,000 high school seniors from across the country have received the Award, which has become a symbol for excellence and the school's highest agricultural honor. April 26 Bowman County Schools host STEM Day On April 12, both Rhame and Bowman Elementary Schools participated in the first STEM Day held at the Bowman Campus. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Student were separated into groups of three, split by grade levels of K-1, 2-3, and 4-6. The students were tasked with an activity or challenge they had to complete at four different 30-minute stations. Some

activities that were included were penny archway challenge, build-a-rocket, spaghetti tower, catapults, homemade pulley, and many others. In total, there were 15 different stations. At the end, the students celebrated with pop floats served by members of the Bowman County School Board. STEM Day is a way to challenge students to think critically and work as a team to complete a task. This is an activity the school plans to continue in the upcoming years. Participating in STEM is another way to prepare Bowman students for the future by incorporating 21st -century skills into the curriculum.  In the future, the school district invites stakeholders to attend and observe another example of the quality education the students receive at Bowman County Schools. May 10 Bowman Sheriff’s Department inches closer to K-9 - The Bowman County Sheriff’s Department has been requesting donations from local businesses to fund the creation of a K-9 unit, which will be led by Sergeant Doug Langhoff, and the community has responded. According to Bowman County Sheriff Frank Eberle, a K-9 will cost approximately $12,00014,000 to get off the ground and then $2,500-3,000 to maintain each year. As of now, the sheriff’s department has $8,200 in donations from local businesses.

dogs found themselves 6.5 points behind team champion Beulah, and one-half point behind Mott-Regent/ New England. The Bulldogs counted on their depth to rack up points in event after event. The Bulldogs scored in all but 5 events, two of which the Bulldogs pulled their athletes. Jaci Fischer led the way with a regional title in the 1600m run, and placing fourth in the 800 meters, and fifth in the 1600m relay. The distance crew led the bulldogs by qualifying four new individuals on the day. In the 800 meter Alexius Miller placed third, while Kenley Bowman mirrored that finish in the 1600m and 3200m run. Paysha Rex rounded out the distance qualifiers as she placed second in the 3200m run. Also on the track Esmeralda Madrigal finished third in the 300m hurdles to punch her ticket to state. Madrigal was joined by Abby Smyle, Ellie Stafford, and Jenna Buchholz to place third in the 4x200m relay (a race the Bulldogs have already qualified for the state meet).
