Almost three years and $3 million later, West River Veterinary Clinic’s new location is now open. Located just east of Hettinger, the 12,000 sq. ft. facility offers more comfort for the animals and their owners, while giving the staff expanded space to operate. Hundreds of community members flocked to get a first glimpse at the new building during the Grand Opening on Thursday, April 21. Medical and administrative staff were giving tours and handing out commemorative coffee cups. Beverages and treats were available and a lunch was served over the noon hour, with door prizes and giveaways distributed through-

tire student body April 22 in two separate sessions focused on the affects of social media and telling students to be fearless. Her visit was part of her partnership with EduTech. Gina Joyce, Hettinger’s music teacher, said the school has tried for a while to get Perkins to speak with the students, since her tour of the area last

The musician also showed the students that they could accomplish great things, no matter where they are from, she added. “She’s just so positive,” Joyce

Results of an online survey on Facebook months ago showed that a wellness center option was heavily favored over other suggestions. During the city council’s special meeting on Monday, April 25, committee member Suzie Reuther laid out their plan for specific rooms on the east side of the building. One room would house the cardio equipment, while another across the hall would house the weight training equipment. Michelle Gaylord has nearly completed a grant application for the city to purchase equipment with a business enterprise grant through USDA Rural Development. West River Health Services has also agreed to supply some equipment to the facility. Whether that will be a donation or a loan has yet to be determined. A tentative list of the equipment was passed around the room, and it included three treadmills, one elliptical, one recumbent bike, one air dyne, free weights, a chin up bar, a punching bag, therapy balls, universal gym, two weight benches, and 12 mirrors. Former WRHS CEO Jim Long, who is a member of the task force, said he would need to get confirmation and final approval from current CEO Matthew Shahan and the board of directors before listing a value on the equipment. Gaylord said the equipment that’s
