Six Packs: 2020 Fantasy Label Draft

It has been eight years since Country Aircheck launched the annual Fantasy Label Draft and, as other sports struggle with limiting or prohibiting attendance, all are welcomed to this – the greatest show on mirth. This year’s group of high-stakes radio gamblers, putting Jason Addams (c) with team name muses Lyndsay Church (l) and their good names on the Annie Sandor (r) line to draft their own artist and label exec roster are WKCQ/Saginaw, MI’s Jason Addams; WNCB/ Raleigh’s Carson Blackley; WGAR/Cleveland’s Carletta Blake; KIYK & KCIN/St. George, UT’s Aaronee Cottam; KNCI/ Sacramento’s Joey Tack; Carson Blackley Carletta Blake and WFMS/Indianapolis’ Isaac “Brooks” Wenzel. Before the eighth season can officially kick off, a season seven champion must be crowned. WMZQ/Washington’s Corey Calhoun edged out the competition with a total Aaronee Cottam Joey Tack of 636 points. “Can’t wait to get my team together for our No. 1 party celebration – probably on Zoom,” says Calhoun. “Now, on to the task of collecting the side bets with the other contestants: $100 each from everyone except [KWNR/Las Vegas’] MoJoe [Roberts], who only bet $20, because he’s cheap.” Isaac “Brooks” Wenzel (continued on page 9)

Country Aircheck’s quarterly print missive/home decor piece (turned sideways it makes a great placemat) returns Friday after a June hiatus. Despite a summer of postponements ACM RADIO TIM WINNERS and cancellations, the September issue finds ROBERTS NEW MUSIC 31 quite a bit of optimism. PREVIEW 5! Trophy Life: While they won’t get to gather in Nashville next week for the audience-free 55th Academy of Country Music Awards, radio winners share singular stories that reflect the continuing importance and appeal of radio.
