Country’s Power Gold Gets A Refresh
When Country Aircheck last looked at Country radio’s top 100 power gold titles (CAW 8/10/20), the list had held quite steady since the six-month prior review (CAW 2/10/20). This time around, a bumper crop of strong recurrents-turned gold has led to 11 debuts. Also debuting in this semi-annual analysis of Country Aircheck/Mediabase airplay is a look at how power gold rankings vary across the top three radio groups. More on that in a moment. First, the debuts. Dan + Shay, Jordan Davis, Chris Janson and Bebe Rexha all make their first appearance on the list, while Kane Brown and Luke Combs notch their Jason Aldean second and third songs, respectively. Three songs debut in the top 10, including Dan + Shay’s “Tequila,” Brown’s “Heaven” and the latest appearance from power gold mainstay Kenny Chesney, “Get Along.” Chesney’s debut is one of his six placements on this list, putting him in a threeway tie for third with Florida Georgia Line and Zac Brown Band. Luke Bryan, who Luke Bryan had the most titles on the last two top 100 power gold rankings, comes in second with seven songs. And for the first time, Jason Aldean sits alone at the top with nine appearances; last August, he was tied for the top spot with Bryan. Finding themselves tied once again – this time with five songs each in the power gold chart – are Thomas Rhett and the top female artist on the list, Carrie Underwood. Also of note: Florida Georgia Line several of the most recognizable female hits of the past 18 months are still in recurrent status, and therefore are not yet to be eligible to appear on this list. See Our Yes For CRS
Via one method of delivery or another, CRS 2021 registrants and Country Aircheck subscribers will receive the February print special in the coming week. Anchored around an event that is anything but typical this year, the issue offers practical tips on making the virtual experience a bit more like the IRL version at Nashville’s Omni Hotel. Here are a few to whet the appetite: • Put a cupcake next to your bed to find when you get back to your room after drinking. • Set up pipe and drape in your hallway and continually tell housemates, “You can’t go back there.”
