A lifelong calling: Polly Krasser honored for 38 years in education By Annabelle Blasius The sound of children laughing and learning has long echoed through the classroom of Polly Krasser, a devoted educator who spent 38 years inspiring young minds and shaping futures. For Krasser, teaching was never just a career — it was a calling. Since she was a little girl, she knew she wanted to follow in her parents’ footsteps and become a teacher. She turned her dream into a lifelong passion for helping students grow. A 1980 graduate of Cameron University with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education, Krasser built her career close to home in southwest Oklahoma. She spent much of that time in the Chattanooga school district, teaching first grade for eight years before transitioning to junior high and high school math. “For a lot of my kids I taught them for over half their school years,” Krasser said. “The Class of 2000 was my last year in first grade. Then I moved on to teaching seventh through 12th grade math, so I had the chance to teach them again.” Krasser said watching her students grow up was one of the most rewarding parts of her career, and many remain lifelong friends. She said her favorite part of teaching was the opportunity to help students and witness the moment when concepts finally began to click. Earlier this year, Krasser was nominated and inducted into the Comanche County Educator Hall

of Fame. She is among the first group of individuals to receive the honor, making the recognition especially meaningful. Krasser found out about her induction when a former student called to share the news, making the honor even more significant. “It was such an honor to be selected — something I never dreamed of,” Krasser said. “Getting to see former teachers I taught with at the ceremony made it even more special.” Though Krasser retired from teaching in 2018, her passion for education has never faded. She continues to stay involved by volunteering in the school district, helping with sporting events, tutoring and participating in other activities. She also serves as a student council sponsor. Now, her impact comes full circle, as many of the students she works with are the children of those she once taught. One of her former students, Hunter Quickle, now serves as a principal in the district, giving Krasser the opportunity to work alongside him. Today, Krasser lives in Faxon with her husband, Jerry, where together they operate their family farm. She treasures the time she spends with her grandaughters who bring her tremendous joy. A dedicated alum, she remains actively involved with Cameron University as a member of the foundation’s President’s Partners. Beyond that, she also gives back to her community through her service on the Board of the Cotton
