I would like to thank all the people of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl for all that they’ve done to create such great hospitality for our players and staff. Even though we’ve got circumstances that we all have to deal with, the week has worked out extremely well. We certainly appreciate the opportunity to be back in the Cotton Bowl. HISTORY: 86TH CLASSIC – DID YOU KNOW? THE FIRST Alabama became the first team to win the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic more than once in the 13 Classic games that have been played at AT&T Stadium. The Crimson Tide defeated Michigan State, 38-0, in the 80th Classic.
ALMOST PERFECT With the win, Alabama moved to 6-1 in College Football Playoff Semifinals, winning its last six appearances by double digits. Cincinnati is 0-1 in CFP Semifinal appearances.
6.4 Alabama’s rushing average of 6.4 yards (301 yards on 47 carries) ties two other teams for the highest rushing average in a New Year’s Six bowl game.
HEISMAN HOME Alabama quarterback Bryce Young became the 14th player in Cotton Bowl history to win the Heisman Trophy given annually to the nation’s top college football player. The previous Heisman winner to play in the Classic was Alabama running back Derrick Henry.
BEING NO. 1 Alabama was the first No. 1 ranked team to win the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic since the 34th Classic on January 1, 1970, when No. 1 Texas defeated No. 9 Notre Dame, 21-17.
ACTUALLY PERFECT Alabama is 6-0 at AT&T Stadium, the most wins for an FBS team at the stadium without a loss.
THE BIG 2-0-0 Alabama’s Brian Robinson Jr.’s rushing performance 204 yards on 26 carries (7.8 yards per carry) ranks tied for fifth in Classic history. His rushing total also ranks second all-time in a New Year’s Six bowl game and sixth best by an FBS player in AT&T Stadium history.
G5 HISTORY Cincinnati became the first school representing the Group of Five conferences to make the College Football Playoff. Champions of the American Athletic Conference, the Bearcats came into the Classic undefeated.

2021 GAME SUMMARY Cincinnati earned the historic invite to the playoff party, but it was Alabama running back Brian Robinson Jr. who owned the dance floor in the 2021 College Football Playoff Semifinal at the 86th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. The Bearcats, the American
Athletic Conference champion, were the last remaining undefeated squad. While Cincinnati was a newcomer to the national semifinals, Southeastern Conference champion Alabama (13-1, 7-1 SEC) was making its seventh College Football Playoff appearance in the eight years of the format. 2021 CREATIVE CAMPAIGN The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic once again partnered with PytchBlack out of Fort Worth to develop a creative campaign that embodied the #LikeNoOther brand platform. A visual branding campaign was created featuring the “road to greatness” theme culminating at AT&T Stadium. The goal for this year’s campaign was to creatively highlight the Classic’s role as a College Football Playoff Semifinal knowing both participating teams were playing for a shot at the CFP National Championship. The “road to greatness” theme was conceived to complement Goodyear’s campaign.

Whether that is lending a hand, providing financial assistance or amplifying the needs of children and families across North Texas, the Foundation has stayed true to its mission to positively impact those who play, attend and support the game of football and the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. This was once again evident over the past year as the Foundation extended its all-time total to nearly $2 million in grants and financial support benefiting non-profit organizations in the surrounding communities and beyond.

CFP FOUNDATION’S BIG DAY The Cotton Bowl Foundation and College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation teamed up once again to make it a BIG DAY for North Texas educators on September 14, 2021, awarding grants of $50,000 each to Urban Teachers Dallas-Fort Worth and Catch Up & Read, as a part of the Extra Yard for Teachers initiative.
