Leading the way on single-use plastics ban

On 1 February 2023, the Victorian Government’s Single-Use Plastics Ban comes into effect.

Supply of straws, cutlery, plates, drink stirrers, expanded polystyrene food and drink containers and cotton bud sticks will be banned. Single-use plastics are a big problem and the ban is a major win for our environment.

To support the ban, we’re leading the way with our own Plastic Free Policy outlining our commitment to reducing and eventually eliminating the use of single-use plastics across our operations, services and events, and at private events held on Council land and in Council-managed sites.

We’ve also created resources to support our businesses and residents to prepare for the ban, understand the environmental impact of single-use plastics, and transition to sustainable, reusable alternative items.
