Beach-goers in danger at Aguamarina psoe orihuela, the opposition political party, has denounced the on-going situation being experienced at aguamarina beach in orihuela Costa. Last week beach-goers were taken off the beach as it was felt lives were at risk. the cliff face is unstable and so there is a real danger to people lying under or near them. as recently as october 2020 there
were landslides and currently there is no fixed fencing or sufficient signage to warn people of the risk. there is a temporary fence that the infrastructure department has put in place, however it is claimed that this disappears or moves from time to time, according to psoe spokesperson Carolina gracia. the politician is so concerned she has contacted the Local police to denounce
the situation and wants to highlight “the lack of maintenance and actions in this area” to the local community. Carolina grace pointed out that it is not the first time they are forced to denounce the “neglect and delay” of the Local government with cracks, potholes and landslides in the coastal zone of the municipality under the pp’s on-going governance.
“i am embarrassed by our beaches for the people who visit each year to see how the deficiencies increase and those that already existed are still not fixed. We know the government dislikes the fact that we highlight the work they have neglected, but it is a fact. the sinkhole at Cabo roig beach, if it is fixed, will now cost double to what was budgeted a year ago and people

still have to walk around to get to the beach.” in the next plenary session the socialist group will ask about the lack of signage in this area as well as the sinkholes and landslides on the coast. the psoe spokesperson has also raised questions over the state of the promenade that is located just above the cliff at aguamarina beach as the gaps between the construction and the cliffs are increasing and it “has been a year since the Councillor for infrastructure said that a geotechnical study of the area would be commissioned in order to know in detail the true condition and still there is no information”. Caroline gracia said: “What we do know is that the municipal advisers and councillors are here every day and make excuses such as the lack of a budget and when it comes to plenary session they themselves vote against each other, it is time for them to stop these absurd fights and begin to take care of and maintain our coast.”
