The Valencian Community announced at the weekend the widely anticipated news that masks are now obligatory. The regional Minister for Health, Ana Barcelรณ announced at a press conference that the use of a face covering is now mandatory throughout the Valencian Community,

even when the safety distance of 1.5 metres can be observed.

Effective immediately, the use of a mask is mandatory throughout the Valencian Community on public roads, in outdoor spaces and in closed spaces open to the public. This does not include

beaches, swimming pools, and nature spots.

are alone or carrying someone you live with, you don’t need a mask. However, if you are carrying a passenger not from your household you both need a mask and gloves.

The use of a mask will not be mandatory in the following cases: - on beaches - at swimming pools - in nature areas or outdoor spaces outside towns and cities and only provided that the number of people there allows for social distancing of 1.5m - while practicing sport or any other activity when its use is incompatible - in children's and youth leisure activities - while in the company of a group of people who live together - people with respiratory diseases or

type of illness, respiratory distress or who have a certain level of disabililty. The legislation specifically refers to hygienic and surgical masks (those with an exhalation valve will not be allowed, for example), and their proper placement will be from nose to chin.

Barceló has insisted on the use of masks on terraces and restaurants when food or drink is not being consumed. "The act of sitting at a table on a terrace does not mean that we should not protect ourselves," she stressed.

Barceló also reported that currently, 20 outbreaks remain active - all which are being managed by the Ministry.

“Contagions are quadrupling in the age range of 20 to 40 years. Private parties or not taking the proper precautions in entertainment venues are generating different outbreaks. It is an age range in which social contacts and mobility are more common. In addition, on many occasions they do not present symptoms and this gives a false security, and is the reason why sometimes the norms of distancing are not respected,” she indicated.

Most of the recent outbreaks have come from family gatherings or from nightlife. For this reason, venues in Gandia on the northern Costa Blanca will now be closed and the government has not ruled out that this will be applied to other municipalities in the Valencian Community.

Masks continue to be mandatory on public transport and in taxis. If you are driving alone or with members of your own household, you do not need a mask, however if you are in a vehicle with someone from a different household, all passengers (and the driver) must wear a mask. On motorbikes and mopeds, if you

problems that might be aggravated by the use of masks or those who are disabled or dependent on help.

From now on, as Ana Barceló revealed at the weekend, the use of the mask also extends to the terraces of bars and restaurants, a point in which she has emphasized when clarifying that the mask should be well placed when food or drink is not being consumed.

The mask must cover both the mouth and nose.

At the press conference, Barceló appealed to the Spanish public’s collective responsibility, reminding citizens that there is still a way to go before a vaccine and asked the population not to forget everything that we have been through in hospitals and ICUs and not to forget those who have died from the virus.

Girl dies in La Manga jet ski crash An eight-year-old girl has tragically died in a maritime accident in the waters of the Mar Menor, in La Manga (San Javier), when the jet ski - on which she was riding with her father - collided with a boat.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon, when the father fell into the sea and the girl managed to stay on the vehicle, which ended up colliding with

another boat.

Immediately 112 received several calls reporting what had happened, and an ambulance and the San Javier Local Police were mobilised to the scene. The health workers tried to save the minor, but her condition was very critical and unfortunately she died as a result of the serious injuries received just over an hour after the accident.

Locals from San Miguel have gathered to demand the closure of a funeral parlour in the centre of San Miguel, the plans for which they say were deliberately hidden from residents due to its unsatisfactory location. The parlour in Calle San Narciso occupies the ground floor of a building, with families living above. They believed when they brought their homes that the two roomed premises would be an office or a shop, never a funeral parlour.

Local neighbourhood association Archangel San Miguel is voicing the town’s disgust at the decision to open the facility and said it is prepared to go to court to get it moved.

More than one hundred people gathered outside the doors of the funeral home, which is already open for business. The Association said t is publically calling for "the precautionary suspension of the activity and the closure of the facilities."

On 1st July, 2020, by Mayoral decree, the municipality of San Miguel de Salinas granted the opening and start of activity license to the funeral parlour. The granting of the licence brought to an end a long procedure started in the summer of 2018 and rejects the allegations presented by the neighbourhood association itself and the affected residents.

There has been no response to their demands for guarantees of protection against potential contagions and epidemics, or other secondary but equally important problems , such as respecting the acceptable hours of commerce, traffic problems and loading and unloading of caskets, which is done out on the street due to the lack of adequate facilities in the building.

There are also queries over the legality of the premises as a funeral home, as by law these should have a cold storage room and a ‘tatanopraxia’ which is where corpses are embalmed and

prepared for viewing – neither of which have been included in the San Miguel parlour. Despite this the parlour has already hosted the funeral of a resident of Torremendo, with the presence of numerous relatives and neighbours in the street.

The local government has reiterated that the application began in the previous municipal mandate and that it is an administratively regulated procedure in which there is little scope to act from the political point of view and, under which, the municipality is open to a lawsuit from the company if it had decided not to grant the license.

Previously, funerals for San Miguel residents were held in Torrevieja, more than eight kilometres away - in a morgue run by the same company as the new parlour. However, with the opening of a morgue by a competitor in the town’s industrial estate, the company decided to open the new parlour.

Beach umbrellas for all in Torrevieja Torrevieja’s popular central beach, Playa del Cura, was chosen to kick off a special summer campaign by the business and tourism industry where members of the public were gifted free beach parasols.

The umbrellas, eyecatching in white with the campaign slogans in blue, were placed on the beach on Friday morning by beach workers with one umbrella per ‘pitch’ on the socially distanced beach. Those arriving to use the beach on Friday were surprised that the umbrellas were already in place for them to enjoy, and even more surprised when they were invited to take the umbrellas home with them at the end of their stay. The campaign is a joint initiative between APYMECO (the small and medium business association) and the town hall and aims to promote the message that Torrevieja is open for business.

The Councillor for Commerce of Torrevieja, Rosario Martínez, together with the coordinator of the Department of Commerce, José Rubio, and the President of APYMECO, Jorge Almarcha, were at the beach on Friday morning and all were very hands on in helping set up the umbrellas.

Land offered for new Health Centre on the coast The Mayor of Orihuela, Emilio Bascuñana, and the Councillor for Health, José Galiano, has recently visited the plot land where the Orihuela Costa Health Centre could be located. Alberto de Rosa, CEO of Ribera Salud, the company that owns the concession of the Torrevieja Health Department, was also present at this meeting; as were Hipólito Caro, medical director of Primary Care; and Pedro

Munuera, economic director.

It is a project to build a multipurpose health centre whose investment would amount to more than 6,000,000 euros and which could be located on a municipal plot of land of 10,693 m2, located in Sector PAU-20 "La Ciñuelica" with the objective of providing a quality health service for the people of Orihuela Costa. La Ciñuelica is located near to Punta Prima, heading way from the coastline.

“Residents and visitors to the Coast need more healthcare with more facilities and a more complete service. Right now that demand is advancing and being met by those who have the responsibility of providing this service,” explained Mayor Bascuñana.

As the CEO of Ribera Salud has highlighted "we have a real commitment to invest 6 million euros to build a multipurpose health centre, with specialties to improve the care of Orihuela citizens who belong to this health department."

The new Centre would promote specialties related to chronic ailments for the elderly, a rehabilitation service, as well as a high-performance sports medicine centre, given that the local environment has an important sports and social fabric from which all patients in the wider area could benefit, not only those allocated to this centre.

More funds for Covid­19 fight as cases rise As coronavirus cases continued to mount in Spain, the lower house of parliament on Wednesday approved a €16 billion aid package to help regions cover the health, social and educational expenses of the pandemic.

Economy Minister Nadia Calviño said in Congress that the funds allocated to fight the social and economic crisis triggered by the Covid-19 crisis now total 5 percent of Spain’s gross domestic product (GDP).

On the day of the meeting, 15th July, Spanish health authorities reported four deaths from Covid19 and 390 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, the worst figures since the end of confinement on

June 21. The total official death toll since the beginning of the pandemic is now 28,413.

After forcing several Catalan municipalities back into partial confinement, the coronavirus is now knocking on the doors of Barcelona. There were 164 coronavirus cases reported between 29th June and 5th July in Barcelona. Between 6th July and 12th, that figure shot up to 496.

The accumulated incidence is 959 cases for every 100,000 inhabitants. The Catalan health chief, Alba Vergés, said that there has been a slight rise in Covid-19 admissions to hospitals and other medical centres in Barcelona, where staff are on alert against a potential surge. Catalonia’s largest

hospital, Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona, has admitted five more cases than a week ago and hospital officials have a contingency plan ready.

The Basque Country is joining a growing list of regions to make face masks mandatory in public at all times, regardless of whether a distance of 1.5 meters between people can be observed. In the southern region of Andalusia, where face masks have also become mandatory, authorities reported 14 active outbreaks on Wednesday. Cantabria, Murcia, Aragón, La Rioja, Navarre, Asturias, Extremadura, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands have also made face coverings compulsory in public spaces.

The OCU has examined the cheapest single-use masks on sale in Spanish

supermarkets to check how effective they are at filtering out particles, and their general quality – eight types in total – plus three types of reusable masks.

With prices relatively similar across the board – averaging 60 cents per mask for single-use varieties, said to offer protection for up to four hours – practically all disposable ones tested offered a very high level of defence, filtering out over 95 percent of particles.

The top three were on sale in Mercadona, Día, and Lidl, each in packs of 10 for €6.

Mercadona's Deliplús line came out the best, with 99 percent filtration and

good 'breathability', certified under health and safety kitemark UNE 0064 – their only drawback was that their elastic 'ear loops' offered limited resistance and could pop out under strain.

Día's Mask4U three-layered medical masks, a Type I surgical mask certified under kitemark EN 14683, offered 98 percent filtration and good 'breathability', although with the same relatively low resistance in their 'ear loops'.

Lidl's Jiangsu Excellence, a Type II surgical mask – the highest category of protection and certified under kitemark EN 14683 – offered 99 percent filtration and a greater level of resistance for the elastic 'ear loops', although the OCU said

After five washes with ordinary household detergent at 60ºC – the recommended method of sterilisation – filtration varied between 68 percent and 86 percent.

Consum's Belpla multi-layered reusable masks came out top, with an 86 percent filtration efficiency, good level of 'breathability', and although they cost just under €10 for a pack of 10, they work out cheaper than the single-use masks on sale in general – each one can be safely used five times, meaning a cost of 20 cents for four hours of wear rather than 60.

Despite their low cost, the OCU has been pressing public authorities on the need to provide free masks, especially for

the 10 percent of families who, according to a survey the organisation carried out, are experiencing 'serious problems' in making their income last between paydays already, let alone with the expense of masks on top.

This is even greater now it is compulsory to wear them in all public areas, even outdoors – and, in some regions (Andalucía, Catalunya, Aragón, Extremadura, Murcia, Navarra and La Rioja, and will soon be in Asturias, Galicia and the Basque Country) even mandatory where social distancing, of at least two metres between persons, can be 100 percent guaranteed.

Many regions already provide free masks to pensioners or to those with health conditions that make them particularly vulnerable if they catch Covid-19, or particularly susceptible to catching it.

In the meantime, the rest of the general public can help by donating packets of masks to local charities.

Also, in some countries – including the UK – availability of masks is currently so limited that wearing them cannot feasibly be made compulsory, and the vast majority of the public does not do so; with high-quality affordable ones on sale in mainstream Spanish supermarkets, anyone with friends or family abroad who cannot get a regular supply could buy several packets in Spain and post them overseas.

AECC student’s cancer diagnosis breakthrough A Spanish doctoral student has discovered new markers for the four most common tumours diagnosed – prostate, bowel, breast and lung cancer.

Belén and her team have uncovered various combinations of micro-RNA which not only detect the presence of a tumour in a specific organ, but also the type of cancer, at a much earlier stage and with greater and more specific detail.

The research forms part of a wider European study known as SAPHELY, which seeks to develop low-cost

diagnostic tools to detect cancer through nanotechnology, and has been published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.

Spain's AECC offers all-round practical and emotional support to people going through cancer, as well as running educational campaigns, and research into numerous strains of the disease.

Coronavirus Brit expats get residencia outbreak in clarification Santa Pola Following on from the introduction of a new residency document for UK Nationals protected by the Withdrawal Agreement, British Ambassador Hugh Elliott and the Spanish Secretary of State for Migration Hana Jalloul have joined forces to reassure expats and provide additional guidance. On the back of the many questions expats had about the new system, the Ambassador and Minister have made a video in English and Spanish which aims to give more clarity and reassurance.

Santa Pola is the first area in the Province of Alicante to record a coronavirus outbreak. The case has affected four people in the same family nucleus.

However, for now, the health department considers the outbreak to be controlled.

According to reports, two people from this same family nucleus tested positive on Friday when they presented mild symptoms compatible with those of Covid-19. Infection was confirmed after undergoing the PCR test. During the tracking process another PCR test was carried out on the rest of the members of the family nucleus (which includes colleagues, close friends and carers for example), and last weekend two more cases were confirmed. At the moment the outbreak is continuing to be tracked between family and close contacts and the four people infected with mild symptoms are in quarantine. Meanwhile, the tracking team continues to look for the 'footprints' of the coronavirus to find the possible origin of the contagion.

Firstly, they were clear that the green residency certificate (whether an A4 sheet or credit card-sized) remains valid proof of residency status and rights under the Withdrawal Agreement, even after the end of the transition period.

Speaking about the introduction of the new TIE Card (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero), Secretary of Stae Hana Jalloul said: “If you already have a green residency certificate, you do not have to apply for a new status as a resident in Spain, and the documents you already have as an EU resident in Spain remain valid. And most importantly, as long as you are legally resident in Spain before 31st December your rights are guaranteed. . . I encourage anyone who does not yet have a residency certificate to apply to the immigration authorities as soon as you can.”

Launching the video, British Ambassador Hugh Elliott reminded UK Nationals of the rights protected by the Withdrawal Agreement: “You will be able

to continue to live and work in Spain. UK state pensioners will continue to have lifelong healthcare access as long as they remain living in Spain (this also applies to residents who claim a UK state pension in the future) and your UK state pension will continue to be uprated. That’s why it is so important that you register as a resident as soon as possible if you are not currently a resident.”

The Ministerio de Inclusión, Seguridad Social y Migraciones has published a comprehensive Q&A document (in both English and Spanish) to provide answers to the questions UK Nationals may have about their residency status and the new process.

When do I get a life?

I was delighted when I became a grandmother to my daughter's twins. However my daughter feels it's ok to drop them at my place for the whole weekend, so that she and her husband can have 'time to themselves'. I thought lockdown might alter things, but as soon as it was over my daughter reverted to bringing the twins round again. My new partner has started to resent this and has stayed away. Also my elderly parents are becoming dependent on me. I have arranged for some social services help but my father refuses and wants me to do everything.

Unless you take your life back now this situation will only get worse. Be very firm with your family. Tell your daughter kindly that you love to see the twins, but it is not acceptable that she leave them with you every weekend as you have your own life. Also your parents have to learn to accept outside help otherwise this will be a huge burden on you. Your partner has a point - you deserve to have a happy life together.

Why can't I grieve?

I lost my husband at the beginning of the year. Since then I find I have been dwelling on his past infidelities; he once deserted me to live with another woman. This was 30 years ago. I managed to forgive him and we went on to have a fairly happy marriage. Now I have hateful feelings towards him and the old feelings of jealously and betrayal have come back. I find I am looking through his possessions to try and find more evidence of his cheating.

I Forgot my Licence!

Slow Down!

All last week, including through the weekend, the Guardia Civil were paying even closer attention to road users than usual, looking specifically at those breaking the speed limit.

The aim of the campaign, which is a regular one on the calendar of special attention, is with the aim of reducing incidents and collisions and the consequences derived from them.

In 2018 (the last year from which consolidated data is available) speed was the second concurrent factor in fatal incidents, specifically, 22%, only behind distracted driving and ahead of alcohol consumption.

According to the study “Speed and risk of an accident” carried out by the International Transport Forum (ITF),seeding is the main problem in all countries around the world, in fact, an estimate for Norway shows that if all drivers were driving below the speed limits, the number of deaths would be reduced by 20% (Elvik 2011).

The campaign focussed on the specific risks associated with inappropriate speed, especially those breaking the speed limit on roads with a higher number of incidents.

After three months in which mobility has been reduced to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, the DGT is appealing that the desire to go out to visit family and friends and to live does not translate this summer into greater speed at the wheel. The speed limits are not arbitrary and are established based on the characteristics of the road.

Speed has a direct influence on the occurrence and severity of traffic accidents. With higher driving speeds,

the number of claims and their severity increases exponentially. This relationship has been shown in several models, especially in Nilsson's "Potential Model".

This shows that a 1% increase in average speed results in approximately a 2% increase in accidents with victims, an increase of 3% of serious accidents and a 4% increase in fatal accidents.

Closely related to speed is the stopping distance of the vehicle. On average, at 120kilometres per hour, we will need a distance greater than a soccer field to stop.

EU's Commitment to the Secure System Road safety policies in the European Union are based on the Vision Zero approach and on the Safe System. Both systems are included in the DGT's Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020. The Safe System recognised by International organisations such as the World Health Organization and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, accepts that human beings make mistakes and seek to prevent these errors from causing death or serious injury.

Following this approach, international organisations advise that speed limits be established considering the forces that the human body can tolerate, which in the case of the urban environment should not exceed 30kilometres per hour when vulnerable users may use the same space. In areas with intersections and high risk of lateral collisions the appropriate maximum speed would be 50 kilometres per hour on conventional roads without physical lane separation.

Approaching this Safe System, the

DGT unified the generic speed on conventional roads at 90 kilometres per hour. These roads are where 75% of fatal accidents occurred last year, of which 38% were road exits and 27% frontal collisions (consolidated data from 2018).

As regards vehicles, the European Union has taken a step forward by forcing all new vehicles marketed in Europe from 2022 to incorporate, among other driving assistance systems, the intelligent speed limiter ISA that works with connected GPS and equipped with a camera that reads road signs, and warns the driver when the speed limit is exceeded.

Traffic regulations state that the maximum generic speed for passenger cars and motorcycles on motorways 120 kilometres per hour, 90 kilometres per hour on secondary roads, and 50 kilometres per hour on urban roads.

Therefore, and taking into account these speeds, drivers who do not comply with them will be committing a serious or very serious offence, punished with a fine of between 100 to 600 euro and the loss of between 2 and 6 points, depending on the severity of the offence.

In the event that speedis greater than 60 kilometres per hour on urban roads or 80 kilometres per hour on interurban roads more than that permitted, the Penal Code criminalises the activity and is punishable by imprisonment of three to six months or a fine of six to twelve months or work for the benefit of the community from thirty-one to ninety days, and, in any case, to the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a period greater than one and up to four years.

It is mandatory to carry your driving licence with you when you drive a car in Spain.

The document also serves as an identity card and so there are benefits to having it with you other than the fact it is mandatory, however, there are occasions when we may forget to carry it or choose to leave it at home, neither of which is a valid excuse by the way.

If you do forget to take your licence and you are stopped, there is a fine which is applicable, however the situation can get far more serious.

Driving without a licence is a criminal offence in Spain, with the burden of proof being on you, the driver.

So, in the event of you getting stopped and a traffic officer asking to see your licence, you are responsible for producing it. If you are unable to, for whatever reason, it is likely you may find yourself arrested and possibly even spending the night in the cells until you can convince somebody to bring your licence to the police station to prove your entitlement.

The same situation applies if you are driving a vehicle which your licence doesn´t cover. An example of this has been seen in publicity for so-called microcars, which states “no licence required”. The claim is simply not true. It is correct that you can drive a microcar without a car licence, but you must have a moped entitlement. On the opposite

end of the scale, we wouldn´t expect a regular car driver to get behind the wheel of a double decker bus without first passing a test for the vehicle in question.

However, there is a way in which you can leave the originals in a safe place, such as at home, if security is a concern and you don´t want to carry your original licence with you. You may take your original documents to a Notary and they will take a copy for you and add their original stamp, confirming their validity and originality.

It is not simply a case of photocopying them yourself, even if you copy them in colour and perhaps you even laminate them, they are still copies which are not valid as they are not certified by a Notary.

Most towns will have a Notary office and many of them speak English. It is a recognised service and so they will fully understand what you want if you take your documents to them. The other good news is that it doesn´t cost a lot for them to provide these certified copies, so if you do want peace of mind of leaving your originals locked away safe, then you visit your local Notary and have them provide you with certified copies.

Remember, it is mandatory that the documents you carry are the originals, not photocopies. The only copy that is allowed is one that has been stamped and certified by a Notary. Notarised copies of documents are allowed, but that is the only exception.

Safe driving in Europe The UK has the second safest roads in Europe – with Sweden the only nation with fewer deaths per million inhabitants.

Figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reveal there are 28 deaths per million people in the UK, whereas Sweden records 25 fatalities.

The number of road traffic deaths has fallen significantly across the EU over the past two decades. There were a total of 54,900 fatalities in 2001, a tally that dropped to 25,300 by 2017. The figures confirm that the EU boasts the safest roads in the world. However, data from

CARE (EU Road Accidents Database) shows that 70 people die every day on Europe’s roads. Human error is linked to the majority of accidents, with 10-30% of incidents caused by distraction alone.

Emergency braking and driver drowsiness detection systems will become mandatory over the next few years in a bid to further limit the number of avoidable casualties. Other measures include mandatory speed limiters in all vehicles sold in the EU and the UK from 2022, as well as built-in breathalysers which require a clean reading in order to start the car.

The European Commission expects built-in breathalysers and other driver assistance systems to save around 25,000 lives and prevent 140,000 injuries by 2038.

Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska said: “Every year, 25,000 people lose their lives on our roads. The vast majority of these accidents are caused by human error.

“We can and must act to change this.

With the new advanced safety features that will become mandatory, we can have the same kind of impact as when the safety belts were first introduced.”

Stand by your strawberry Be dehydration aware Eight studies from around the world now suggest that, although blueberries have long been associated with being the ultimate superfruit, all berries actually share a similar healthy nutrient profile. In the last year alone, several studies have highlighted the various health benefits of strawberries, raspberries and blackberries.

Cardiovascular health, sleep, immune systems, Alzheimers and stress can all be alleviated or helped in some way through the consumption of these berries.

These nutritious, juicy and ripe premium berries varieties are packed full of a whole host of health benefits that have previously been assigned to blueberries.

Stress and Anxiety Relief Research carried out in China found that simply being around strawberry plants could provide a mood boost. Heart rate and salivary cortisol were significantly reduced after looking at strawberry plants for 15 minutes.

The research also showed that viewing the strawberry plants also reduced tension, confusion and anxiety, showcasing that just being around - as well as eating strawberry plants - can have a positive effect on mental wellbeing.

Excessive thirst It might seem obvious, but being thirsty is a big hint that you're not as hydrated as you should be. When you get dehydrated, you'll naturally be thirsty, so listen to your body's signals and rehydrate until you've quenched your thirst.

As the English football season entered injury time, we were actually given a week full of shocks and surprises. Honestly, we were. Did you expect Arsenal to get through that week with two wins in the book? No, you didn’t.

Could it be that Mikel Arteta is on to something at the Emirates? After all, taking out both Liverpool and City in less than seven days is not something the recent Arsenal would have done. So that has to be an element of improvement, for sure. Even more impressively, they did this with David Luiz starting both matches. I know, who’d have believed that?

Arsenal’s win over the champions surely finishes off any chat around Liverpool being a ‘great’ side, no? Very good, yes. Great, no. Don’t forget, the club that beat them on Thursday night has won a top-flight without losing a single match as well as lifting a title having lost only one match. Their closest rivals, Man City, have won it with 100 points. Their longest-term rivals, United, created a title-winning dynasty to rival that of the actually-great Liverpool teams of the past. So today, they are not great - be patient Liverpool fans, that might achieve that one day.

And when they are there, they are probably not losing 2-1 to Arsenal having been in the lead.

Was Arsenal’s second scalp even more surprising? You’d have to say so.

Don’t forget, Liverpool have the title in the bag and there wasn’t anything more to play for than getting to 100 points. Pep and City really wanted to win the FA Cup. Not that you could have told based on Pep’s attire. Ripped jeans, Pep? At the home of football? I’m not so sure. That’s almost as bad as a referee having personalised boots. Yes, you Jon Moss. You. Arsenal were full value for their win and will return to Wembley to play Chelsea with both teams making a complete mockery of my prematch allManchester FA Cup Final prediction.

Now, I’ve spent a lot of time sticking up for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and this morning I am sitting here feeling a little bit let down by the former-blueeyed-boy. Ole, you are the one telling us over and over how United are a club of traditions. A club that demands silverware. A club with a proud tradition in the FA Cup. Then why, why oh why, why on Earth did you pick that starting XI against Chelsea?

Watford appointed Nigel Pearson to keep them in the Premier League. West Ham appointed Moyseh to do the same.

Friday night’s relegation six-pointer saw one of the two clubs all but secure their Premier League status for next season and saw t’other get rid of their firefighter by the time second semi-final got underway at Wembley.

Especially given Buendia getting his marching orders the day before. Anyway, imagine sending Wes Morgan out to battle with all that pace buzzing around him. Madness. And the kind of madness that sees Leicester likely to find a way of ending up in Europe’s

second rate hassle of a tournament next season.

I’m not sure how you even begin to understand the feeling of VAR ripping out Bournemouth’s barely-beating Premier League heart deep into injurytime at the Vitality. The Cherries were trailing to Southampton and already had one round of resuscitation when Danny Ings gently passed his penalty back to the keeper.

Youngster Sam Surridge had come off the bench and bought his club a lastmatch ticket, a goal that would keep their destiny slightly more in their own hands given the farcical goings-on at Watford.

And then VAR got involved. Rightly, but unromantically.

Callum Wilson was offside, but the look on Eddie Howe’s face said it all. Broken.

How do you bounce back from that?
