Officials in Galicia were the latest to announce a return to lockdown for the 71,000 residents of A Mariña in Lugo, due to a new outbreak of Covid-19 in the area. The Galicia lockdown followed another return to confinement for the 200,000
inhabitants of Segriá when the Catalan government announced emergency measures there from midday on Saturday. The Galicia lockdown came into effect at midnight on Sunday due to a sharp rise in infections, concentrated around A Mariña. Residents will not be able to enter or leave the area for a week in order to try to prevent the spread of infection. A rise in infections was detected on June 24th and officials have been closely monitoring cases in the days since. A number of bars and restaurants in the region decided to close after discovering that staffmembers had been infected. Health authorities in neighbouring regions remain on high alert.
