Campaign to save Doña Sinforosa Park More than 1,700 signatures have been gathered so far in an effort to save doña Sinforosa park in advance of a protest planned for July 31st. PSoe, los Verdes and Sueña torrevieja are planning a public rally at the end of July to demand that the planned development of two skyscrapers next to the bay in torrevieja does not convert the emblematic green area, with hundred year old trees, into a paved walkway.

Campaigners have already collected more than 1,700 signatures in favour of the conservation of the conservation in torrevieja. Residents and political parties are organising a public protest to demand that the local administration be sensitive when it comes to preserving this unique space next to the beach in torrevieja. the campaign in defence of the park was announced at a joint public appearance by three local political

parties - the PSoe, los Verdes and Sueña torrevieja - together with independent councillors Rodolfo Carmona and nacho torre-Marín, which took place at the park itself. the opposition parties claim that the town hall “intends to authorize” for the benefit of a developer the replacement of the much loved garden next to the Acequión beach for a paved esplanade. the park is a unique green area right next to the beach and is one of the few public spaces in the town that has maintained the same character for almost a century, with some large specimens of eucalyptus and pine trees. the campaign has been gathering momentum in recent months, since a detailed study of the two 27-storey towers was revealed in december. Part of the plan to build the two skyscrapers is to convert the park into a paved communal area. the parties behind the ‘save the park’ campaign have said that they have sensed great interest and

concern among residents, who themselves are continuing to request more signature sheets for the petition so that more people can join the movement to preserve the park. Andrés navarro, spokesperson for the PSoe told the press at the meeting, “this park is one of the few ‘green lungs’ that we have in the centre of torrevieja. in cities, it is essential to identify and value what is most important in their culture, their history, as well as their spatial
