Big plans for Torreta III As many as 200 local residents gathered at 10am on Sunday morning at Restaurante Meson Galea in torreta iii in torrevieja to meet the Mayor and a team of local councillors. the meeting was called by the Asociación de vecinos de la torreta iii
to give residents the chance to hear plans for a long awaited regeneration of the area. Residents have been campaigning for input from the town hall for an area that has been much neglected since its creation in the late 70s. Most
recently the residents group took the town hall to court to try to force the local government to address serious deficiencies in basic infrastructure. in the end the Supreme Court absolved the town hall of having to pay the €9m euro claim by residents. homeowners have been demanding for many years that the town hall take charge of the redevelopment of this sector of torrevieja, built between the end of the seventies and the beginning of the eighties. the main issue is that the town hall says it cannot invest money into areas which are considered to be private land – as much of torreta iii is still classified under. the urbanisation was built on the cusp of a real estate boom in the late 70s but never properly urbanised by the promoter. Built initially as a ‘bungalow hotel’
